I wrote my own book “inspired” by the books as well but in mine the protagonist and her family were aliens for some reason?? Honestly, read these books in middle school and elementary school…all I have to say is, Nikki should’ve explored her options with André. Brandon’s been holding out too long for my tastes. Like he needs to make Nikki his girlfriend or let that girl explore other options
Girl, the biggest problem with this series is that BRANDON AND NIKKI NEVER GET TOGETHER. Like, I remember reading a part in 'Crush Catastrophe' (or puppy love) where Brandon tells Nikki, "Actually, Nikki, I REALLY LIKE YOU" and NOTHING HAPPENS. The pair act all lovey-dovey, yet NEVER get together. There's no relationship drama, nay, not even CONFESSION drama. We never find out why they don't become a thing. Not only that, but when Andre flirts with Nikki, BRANDON gets jealous?! But, like... Nikki never told Andre that she likes Brandon AND Brandon and Nikki aren't a thing. I mean, COME ON! *Flips invisible table* Anyway, I gave up on the series after 'Birthday Drama'. I just could NOT with the 'viral dances' page.
So does nobody remember the Dork Diaries website? It was surprisingly very active. I loved reading the Ask Nikki columns and the comments. Last I checked the website people were arguing and speculating about an upcoming movie casting 😭😭

Tales of a Not-So-Friendly Frienemy was the first book from this series I read in a while and I remember thinking and being excited about a possible status quo change with Nikki and Mackenzie at the end not exactly being friends but being on good enough terms that Nikki doesn't have to worry about being antagonized by Mackenzie anymore but of course, all of that was undone. That really disappointed me.
i used to get these from my class library (out of order because we only had a few) and read them in secret because i was a "smart kid" and i would have gotten made fun of for reading things that were "below me". sometimes you just need a little bit of stupid lighthearted fun

I used to love any sort of book that was from the perspective of a kid writing in a diary. Dork Diaries, Diary of a wimpy kid, Dear Dumb Diary, Big Nate, the Popularity Papers, Middle School the worst years of my life, etc. As a kid who drew a lot and kept a lot of journals, I found it really relatable. Especially when the main character really liked art/drawing, because I wanted to make a career out of it when I was younger & found it very inspiring, and I was really shy lol
Every time a new book releases I pray the Mackenzie and Nikki will have an enemies to lovers arc and leave that basic flavorless bitch Brandon 😭 I might be delusional, but I felt like the Paris book, especially the scene when Nikki and Mackenzie got stuck in the catacombs, had some sapphic undertones. Nikki and Mackenzie really had more chemistry in that one scene than Nikki and Brandon had in the entire 15 books imo

After reading dork diaries I definitely did ask for a diary and started doing the whole “Hi dairy its me again!” Whenever I’d randomly just find my old dairy years later I wear I could feel my insides crunching from how cringe it was 😅

i remember as a 4th grader, I was a black dot as a kid (high five to anyone who knows what that is) and I was obsessed with this series. The librarian would often get mad at me for picking this series which was like four levels below my dot colour. I literally reread the series.
I didn’t use dots but we had this website and numbers and crap. My numbers were so high (7.3-12.0) I had to read Shakespeare and it was SO BORING I wished I could read Dork Diaries so bad 😭

These books were literally my childhood, so thank you for the joy that is this video. I read these in middle school I remember even then I thought Nikki was a pretty annoying. She’s still my girl, but ooo she used to piss me off when I read these. I definitely agree about the trajectory of the series. It just got more ridiculous because a lot of the charm was everyday nature of Nikki’s life and circumstances.
When I was a kid, I used to have most of the Dork Diaries books (I was missing a few but they do enough recap that you don't really have to have them all) and I remember only liking the first two because I thought the other ones were incredibly unrealistic

I’ve been reading these books since elementary and have the entire collection it’s a great part of my childhood but as I reread them especially now as an adult I came to the realization that yea they became totally unrealistic 💀 that’s why I think the peak are 1-6 the first book being my favorite because it really does seem the most realistic to me anyways still love the series!

I remember not liking these books but still reading them all because I had nothing else to do to distract me from quarantine when I was younger. I hated them all so much but I had already read all the wimpy kid books and desperately needed something new. I remember reading the Max Crumbly books after dork diaries and liking them a whole lot more. I remember those being way funnier and more entertaining.
As a kid I wasn’t allowed to read this book because my parents said Nikki was disrespectful toward her parents and wanted to be popular. I did read the entire first book, but I honestly don’t really feel like I missed out on the rest of the series. I was a Wimpy Kid girl instead.

Exactly. This is why I love when pieces of media aimed at young audiences grow up with them. An example of this is Adventure Time.

I only ever read the first two books, but I reread the first one so many times. I remember she stole her elderly neighbor’s hearing aid and tried to make it look like a Bluetooth ear piece to look cool which was so out of pocket.

I also feel like they lost the plot a little bit, I would’ve loved to see Nikki’s relationship with Mackenzie and Brandon evolve through silly teenage arguments and adventures in their original school. for the first time I’m kinda mad they didn’t keep my media relatable oh how the tables turn😭😭
i remember as a 4th grader, I was a black dot as a kid (high five to anyone who knows what that is) and I was obsessed with this series. The librarian would often get mad at me for picking this series which was like four levels below my dot colour. I literally reread the series.

I didn’t use dots but we had this website and numbers and crap. My numbers were so high (7.3-12.0) I had to read Shakespeare and it was SO BORING I wished I could read Dork Diaries so bad 😭

i also wrote my own carbon copy of dork diaries as a kid called “surviving just about everything” (the name was inspired by the game “surviving high school”) and i was so proud of it even though it is trash lmao
nah bruh idc nikki is ICONIC!!!!!!! shes part of the reason why i love glitter and sparkles and drawing. her art is super cute and shes pretty hilarious at times
These books were literally my childhood, so thank you for the joy that is this video. I read these in middle school I remember even then I thought Nikki was a pretty annoying. She’s still my girl, but ooo she used to piss me off when I read these. I definitely agree about the trajectory of the series. It just got more ridiculous because a lot of the charm was everyday nature of Nikki’s life and circumstances.

When I was a kid, I used to have most of the Dork Diaries books (I was missing a few but they do enough recap that you don't really have to have them all) and I remember only liking the first two because I thought the other ones were incredibly unrealistic

To be fair for books 7 and 14, those pop star events are based on the author's experiences, but I cannot justify the dog stunt that comes from a cheesy Disney channel original movie

Y’all I got a crazy story ong. I remember when i was in 4th grade I loved reading DOAWK. Used to go to the school library all of the time so that I could check out the books. One day while i was checking out the 2nd one the librarian stopped me and said I should read dork diaries instead bc DOAWK is for boys and dork diaries is for girls. that’s how I came across dork diaries lmao
I’ve been reading these books since elementary and have the entire collection it’s a great part of my childhood but as I reread them especially now as an adult I came to the realization that yea they became totally unrealistic 💀 that’s why I think the peak are 1-6 the first book being my favorite because it really does seem the most realistic to me anyways still love the series!

I remember not liking these books but still reading them all because I had nothing else to do to distract me from quarantine when I was younger. I hated them all so much but I had already read all the wimpy kid books and desperately needed something new. I remember reading the Max Crumbly books after dork diaries and liking them a whole lot more. I remember those being way funnier and more entertaining.
As a kid I wasn’t allowed to read this book because my parents said Nikki was disrespectful toward her parents and wanted to be popular. I did read the entire first book, but I honestly don’t really feel like I missed out on the rest of the series. I was a Wimpy Kid girl instead.
