I recently read My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata… honestly still have not gotten over the depression induced by that book. It’s an autobiographical manga with a simple artstyle, yet it somehow manages to convey so much emotion. My life experiences are very different from the author’s but I was full-on sobbing at various points in the book. It really re-oriented me - gave me perspective on my own privilege, but also on other matters of life. Anyways, I hope to hear your thoughts on it!!!
Hi Cindy! If you’re into memoirs, you might be interested in reading House of Sticks by Ly Tran. Chanel Miller who wrote Know My Name actually wrote a review analysis article for New York times, analyzing the similarities between House of Sticks and the memoir Made in China by Anna Qu regarding the authors’ shared experiences of being children of immigrants with complex relationships with their parents, while growing up in poverty in New York. This part from the last paragraph one the review is my favorite. Reading it even gave me better clarity and understanding of the book I’d read. Chanel Miller states: “The struggle for both authors seems to be holding all of these conflicting emotions at once. To shield the parent while escaping her. To forgive abuse without excusing it. To be grateful for their sacrifice and still say, I needed more than you gave me. Qu and Tran each honor these complexities, tell us we were not meant to swallow our pain and survive in this world without support systems. You are allowed to want, to give shape to your sadness, to seek lives that stretch past the walls you grew up in. They speak of their parents’ flaws, not to incriminate, but to prevent these patterns from repeating.”
I am a foreigner living in South Korea and while I 100% do not fit their standards (Mexican, ‘XXXXL’ in Asian size, tan skin, big nose) I get called pretty just for being foreign which I know wasn’t the case in the past. My best friend who is Korean goes through so much. Like she asked me if she should get a nose job and when I told her I love her nose she cried because she’s never been told that before. It’s way too common to change yourself into the “ideal” person here with surgery, diets, and makeup. I count myself lucky since I don’t have that pressure externally but internally … it’s hard.
The only two times the french ever did smth right were when they invented revolutions with guillotines and when they created pastries, ugh you're so on point Cindy 😔

I haven't been keeping up with your vlogs lately, but have you read Y/N by Esther Yi? It's similar to the premise of Idol, Burning, but more twisted. There's also the book Astral Season, Beastly Season, whose synopsis sounds similar, but I haven't read the book so can't vouch for it yet.
For the tickets it's not entirely your mistake since the system in Paris and its suburb is almost purposely made to trick tourists and even French people who are not from the region
When I moved to New York this year I didn't get a ticket for the train and the worker checked for tickets and I expected to get a fine again but instead she just had me pay $5 for the ticket with no fine. I was like omg Paris would never !!

Chanel Miller states:
“The struggle for both authors seems to be holding all of these conflicting emotions at once.
I count myself lucky since I don’t have that pressure externally but internally … it’s hard.
screaming in the car is my favorite thing
Finally a book review !!! Or should I say books
sorry its been a while!!
The only two times the french ever did smth right were when they invented revolutions with guillotines and when they created pastries, ugh you're so on point Cindy 😔
the thumbnail you choose is similar to an author's picture at the end of a book that gave me emotional damage which is very on point with the themes of these books you've read
Which author ?
19:12 My eyes went to the book on India almost immediately.
You're halfway to my early prediction, Cindy. Which means you'll have to sing the praises of the Great & Powerful yapdog again before too long. _(Only the real Cindy will know what that means 😉)_ I'm always rooting for you, my Smurfette!
Omg miss u!!
@@withcindy Tell me about it, baby girl! 💔 I'm still here, tho. I just had to really bear down on this project, I'm sure you can relate. I'm getting close to release, but when I'm ready to show, I'll give you an early sneak peek. This is gonna be a big'n
Oh, BTW, have you ever thought of covering K-Dramas on your channel? The content you'd create would be funny as hell! 🤣🤣🤣
On an unrelated note, we need a Pinterest Board for your Pullover Picks.
Haha I got the green hoodie from pacsun!
12:06 This was my ‘Call Me By Your Name’ growing up 😂
P.S. Professor Calculus is Aroace Rep.
Welp, following Cindy as a french took a wild turn...
Love u and ur croissants!!
Luv your videos Cindy 🫶♥️🫶
Thank u !!
12:15 WOW! I love this collection already! The pioneer of the ‘New Look’.
Btw have you seen ‘Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris’?
i have not! what is that?
@@withcindy It’s about this BRITISH cleaner lady who goes to Paris in search of a dress and has many adventures there.
7:57 this is so Gideon the Ninth
Wealth disparity in the US today is way worse than it was leading up to the French Revolution.
It's so tragic 💀
16:31 Lol I should read this book because I felt seen.
Honestly tho theres so much to be said about the 'right' english language because even today in a previously british colonised country like mine we have concepts of the 'Correct English', correct spellings and collect pronunciation and it's so ridiculous because it's not even our language but because we're at such a disadvantage we have to know the 'right' everything just to be prove we're educated 'right' even in our own country much less abroad
7:58 Btw I’ve seen a video where there’s a tour of the more dangerous side of catacombs. It’s so scary. #ISeeDeadFrenchPeople
Dangerous how?
@@withcindy Like it’s overflowing and has narrow climbing areas. Also, one could get easily lost without a guide.
11:42 AAAAAAAAAAAAAA OMG this is fab! Please tell me you went full Isaac there.
Hehe I love that we both went to the same bookstore!
Okay but Bright Young Women sounds so good 👀
I'm looking forward to reading that one!
You were dubiously vietnamese I had a feeling you were but couldn’t put my finger on it till the vlog. The really loud and mildly irritating voice definitely gave it away
thanks for making great background noise content queen ❤
10:36 English is the Frankenstein’s monster of languages.
And it makes zero sense !!
I haven't but that sounds rly interesting !
7:08 This took me out HAHAHAHAHA
For the tickets it's not entirely your mistake since the system in Paris and its suburb is almost purposely made to trick tourists and even French people who are not from the region
When I moved to New York this year I didn't get a ticket for the train and the worker checked for tickets and I expected to get a fine again but instead she just had me pay $5 for the ticket with no fine. I was like omg Paris would never !!
If I had your face is an amazing book. It left me feeling introspective and empty. My favorite character is also the sex worker because she's a cynic badass and yeah... I get it.
She's so us coded
@@withcindy you get me
7:04 We’re not here to have fun, we’re going to have worksheets based on Eiffel Tower vocabulary. #IYKYK
