- Join me on a tense flight in my Cirrus SR22 Turbo, as I navigate towards increasingly severe weather challenges while returning to Boca Raton from a successful board meeting in New York. Initially aiming for a fuel stop in Savannah, I soon encounter a rapidly worsening weather scenario including thunderstorms, low visibility and cloud ceilings, icing, windshear, while dealing with possible low fuel and losing the daylight. Faced with a critical decision - push through the dangerous conditions or divert somewhere else for safety - this video captures the intense moments of making a pilot's tough call. Experience the journey as I strive to ensure we live to fly another day!

FAQs
- What airplane is this? This is a Cirrus SR22T (Turbo) Generation 6 (G6) built in December 2018.
- Why do you fly so much? I fly for business primarily supporting my clients and staff at meetings and conferences and vendor partner relationship building for my Government Payments platform company called Autoagent
- What do you use to record your videos? I use 3 GoPro cameras (models 10 and Max), I use ND4, 8, 16 filters on the cameras, I use a Sony FRD-AX53 4K camera with mechanically stabilized optical zoom, my iPhone 13 PRO MAX for many of the video shots you see when the 4K camera is too bulky to carry. I record audio with an old iPhone using voice notes and I use a cockpit audio recording cable I bought on Sporty's.
- What software do you use to edit your videos? I use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook and iMac
- Where do you find good royalty free video clips? I use artgrid.io
- Do you do all the editing? Yes, all this work other than some filler video clips and music is my work 100%
- What oxygen system do you use? I use Precise Flight cannulas and their X3 oxygen conserver regulators with the boom cannula. Works good but the boom could use some better engineering.
- Do you promote products? Never! I keep my videos sponsor free and continue have unlimited and unrestricted fun without a "boss" or watching my words.
- You fly so good don't you make mistakes? I make tons of errors which I will never show you lol
- Where are you from originally? I was born and raised in beautiful Greece and came to the US as a College student. Loved the Country decided to stay and build my career here. Best decision ever.
- How do you afford to own an airplane? Airplane ownership can be expensive but when done right, in the US, it becomes a wonderful tax deduction that can allow you to fly for business almost for free. Get trained well, get a bank loan and buy yourself an airplane for your business and put it to real use. It will make you money.

Being tired already puts you a bit behind, then you start adding other things like weather, etc, it all starts adding up. Good decision to divert.
Just like the saying “consider every landing a go-around until proven otherwise”, it’s also wise to “ consider every flight having a diversion until proven otherwise”. Stay safe. Cheers from Australia.
I remember some golden words you once said on a previous video: "You don't have to be anywhere in aviation, you just have to be safe." I exercised this right to cancel several flight tests trying to obtain my PPL due to inclement weather conditions, and after I got the next suitable flying day and passed, the testing officer said one of my biggest strengths is flight planning and weather interpretation. I certainly owe this compliment to you, Niko. Love your flying and conservative approach. I'll be your wingman anytime!
And I’ll be your wingman anytime!!! Thank you for your kind words and congrats on your aviation success!!!
@@NikosWings Thanks, Niko!
Sometimes a single pilot's life saver is a credit card. Great video Niko. Cheers from CYYB.
When in doubt, Wait it out. Weather is temporary. Life is precious!
Great decision making, awesome airmanship. Live to fly tomorrow. More pilots should be choosing to hold back; we are losing too many from weather induced emergencies
"It gives you a nice mustache too" made me spit my drink
Thank you for posting. Was a pleasant surprise. As always, I love the level of proficiency and professionalism.. always inspiring me to be a better pilot. God bless.
Nico, thank you for always being a shining example of responsible general aviation piloting
it is refreshing and enjoyable to watch
appreciate you and the channel, always
When people ask me what the hardest part about flying is they automatically assume I’m gonna say takeoff or landing or talking with ATC but the truth is the hardest thing about flying is knowing when not to. Great job!
Good point!
Hey Niko, I really enjoyed that flight. Nice to see you flying out of Teterboro. My old stomping ground!😅
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice Niko... great experience flight ... good decision to stay for next day.... thanks for sharing ... All The Best !!!
Thanks, you too!
Good to see you again Niko! RUclips must’ve changed the algorithm again since I haven’t seen any videos lately. Hope all is well! Ron 😊
It’s not RUclips’s fault, it’s me and my time algorithm lol 😂
@@NikosWings Oh, I understand that, lol! This year I have been spread pretty thin too on extra time.
Great video, thank you for sharing that! I love seeing a good IFR departure. Got my instrument checkride in 2 weeks!
Good luck with that checkride!!
Thank you for sharing Nikos.
My pleasure!
Great video, good to see another video from you.
The correct decision. When I learned to fly 60 years ago, my instructor told me: "There are bold pilots and there are old pilots, but there are no bold old pilots." He said it to me every time we got in the plane. He was right.
He got that right. You had a good instructor.
Always great to see a new video from you, thanks!
Good job. Always nice to see you again Niko. 😊
Great to have a new video Niko! Thank you!
Good to hear from you Rockstar ❤ ✈️ btw greetings for the family
Nice divert and subsequent ifr departure...
I know you’re an extremely busy entrepreneur, but when you don’t film for a while I get withdraws! 😂 You and Trent Palmer have the best channels I’ve found!
You're the best!
Man I love your videos always so much fun to ride along. Keep safe Niko!!
Glad you like them!
Yea, good thinking.
Great decision making as always Niko!
Great video! Always so excited when I see you post! Good ADM
Glad you enjoy it!
Good to see you. Thanks for sharing your flight. 😊
More to come!
Thanks for that nice edited video, I am ready now for breakfast. See you on the next one, oh yeah Safe Travels.
Love your videos, Niko! You need a TBM!!
TBM not for me for many reasons. I’ll get into them one day.
@6:09 Niko is the lucky guy that gets the special carpet that looks like bags of salt spread around and wooden frames to step through.
Hmmm interesting observation
Missed you Niko.
Thank you for making new videos happy you back
Glad you like them!
wanting to get home or to a destination despite bad conditions has cost many lives in the past.. not an easy decission
Used to work in that area. Was a military controller at KNBC. Weather can change quick there. KCHS is a better spot than RDU to layover. lol.
Greetings from Raleigh NC. I live within walking distance to the airport!
Very cool!
This past week I flew my SR22 from Boston to Philly for a board meeting. First longer XC I've done in this plane solo. The weather was 10/10 so I departed the morning of, but if anything didn't look 100% right I knew I could switch to Amtrak or even drive and still be on time. On the way back I had the option to leave around 4pm but with the POTUS TFR, a little ice here and there, and some fatigue after a full day I exercised the option to stay one more night and had the best meal I've had in a year. Left the next morning and got a nice view of AF1 parked at JFK. I'm sure if I'd left the day before it would have been fine but why take even a tiny chance? I will be perfectly happy if I retire from flying with no interesting stories except the places I've been.
Meant to add, I find your videos educational to see how someone with a similar (mine is NA/FIKI) bird and a lot more experience goes about this. It is always refreshing to see someone more proficient and with more capable equipment than most GA pilots still planning conservatively.
Thank you and I’m happy you can relate to this episode. I’ll say that every time I have taken an extra night to rest and wait for weather to improve have been some of my most memorable experiences. I think it’s all because they are unplanned and fully present experiences…
You did great , always choose safety ! Didn't see you at SnF 😕
Yeah couldn’t make it this year.
Hey Niko, which cannula headset mount do you use?
In the Description
Niko will you be at Oshkosh this year?
It’s possible yes
NIko what kind of cameras do you use? Also do you have any cameras outside of the plane? if so, how do you keep power to them or control them remotely?
It’s on the description but in terms of control I use the GoPro app on my phone. For power, just have spare batteries. The outside camera unfortunately dies until the next stop.
@@NikosWings thank you for taking the time
When we will see you in cirrus jet ?
Hopefully when finances allow
And now first change the bottle of Oxygen ? 😅
How does that actually work when you drop in at an fbo unplanned? Do you need to let them know you’re coming in some way? Or they are monitoring ATC frequencies and know when to be ready from there? Curious.
FBOs in the US do not have PPR requirements, you just show up and they’ll take your business. It’s good to call ahead of time but you really don’t have to. Some FBOs will find transportation and accommodations for you.
@@NikosWings that makes sense! Thx!
Does this make you want to upgrade to a bigger plane?
It’s possible that with a faster pressurized aircraft I could had flown above the weather or further west around it, so yes.
@NikosWings thanks for responding, it's something I struggle with as well. I own 2 seater non ifr and is fine 70 pct of the time I guess but when it's not makes me wonder ... but then I see all these additional costs ....
But in this case as well, extra overnight, hotel 2x uber etc. Since you are already in the more expensive category makes me wonder when the cutoff is. I don't think variable costs are that much higher since flight time is shorter
I watch a lot of general aviation videos and you are the only person constantly flying at FL that requires o2. Is there a reason why you fly that high or why others dont?
Yes because I have the turbos and better performance up there
👍✅👏

adore your vlogs Niko
New video 🙏🙏
Niko, you have some of the cleanest post editing around. Your content is always consistent and pulls people in; it's captivating. I can tell quality is important to you and it shows! Keep it up!
I appreciate that!
Thanks for taking us flying with you again. 😊
My pleasure 😊
Niko nice to see you operate in such a professional manner. We make the same decisions at flight levels as you do down lower.
The closest I’ve ever come to dying in an airplane was because of thunderstorms and get-home-itis. Now 3400 hours after that incident I’m thankful that things worked out. I know some others who have made similar decisions did not make it. Great video showing how easy it is to just pause and fly at some later time when it’s safe and you’re well rested! Looking forward to the next video!
Niko always has the best sound track..!! Nice flight my man..!!!
Thanks a lot!
That's true, I had to look up the song at the end of the video.
@@NikosWings You are so welcome and thanks for taking us along for all your adventures...!
Good ADM…..
this is a class act in perfect ADM. good stuff niko!!
No better way to start the morning then watching a NW video!!
Good airnmanship regarding the diversion, i would have done the same
Keep up the awesome work!!! Hope you and your family are well!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was another gorgeous video Niko! And, I loved the message of not forcing anything. It's never worth the risk. The ending shots of landing at Boca in beautiful weather prove that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent decision making Niko! I've been watching you for years, and I finally passed my PPL flight test last week😁👍
Congratulations my friend!!! Happy Skies!!!
@@NikosWings Thanks!!
Great decision making! Why fly into low IFR if there is another option, especially after a long, tiring day of work. Should make this video required viewing for all new IFR pilots! Good job Niko!!
Being tired and driving, is the same effect as drunk driving. glad you pulled over.
✌️🤙
Niko, as always, perfectly prepared for the flight. 😀👍 Nice to see you again. Your video, as always, super edited, appropriate music. For me perfect. I love it man.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What’s the brand of your oxygen mustache
Precise flight boom cannula
Great video Niko, love your content so much & all the work you put into these videos!.
Your incredibly smart decision to re-route to an alternate field is not just a winning mindset, but one which likely allowed your own family to see you again & which I wished so many more pilots adopted out there, as we're losing way too many pilots to avoidable weather events & tiredness.
Seems your successful NYC meeting wasn't the only winning thing you did that day, kai bravo sou megale.
The "μουστάκι" looked good on you man!.
Taking the time to wish you & all your family κάλο πάσχα & may you all have a blessed holy week & καλή ανάσταση
Γεια σου Γιάννη, thank you for your kind words!
Καλή Ανάσταση φίλε και Καλό Πάσχα!!!
You need to make it down here to Australia sometime Niko. Our IFR in Class G would be the intimidating factor I'd imagine though, eg centre just gives you information about other IFR aircraft but then you have to coordinate deconfliction yourself between each other.
It’s similar to flying over the ocean in the Caribbean but I get the whole G airspace which is interesting.
Nice flight. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video and love to see the clear, rational decision making. You seem to do regular Chicago and New York trips, would a Visionjet get you there without refueling and miss more bad weather? Big jump in purchase and running costs of course.
After lots of soul searching market research and looking deep into my pocket I have decided that the vision Jet is the right next step up for me, and it’s a possibility for the future. But as you said it’s a big financial jump. Hard to chew and make it work. We will see.
I’m near Fayetteville. Have flown into RDU once, but at my relatively low experience I find myself intimidated by the taxi instructions at busy Class C airports so I avoid them. Trying to maintain directional control at touchdown while my aluminum tricycle is threatening to kill me at 55mph is a bad time for me to get rapid fire taxi instructions. I need to grow past that hesitation and just do it.
You can slow them down by asking for progressive instructions.
Love the lesson on good ADM this video presents, excellent work
Glad you liked it!
My Man, NiKo's Wings. Long time no see. I seen you pop up on my RUclips. So, I thought I would watch since I got the chance. Always on top. The first man that had inspire me to get my PPL. Thank you brother. Can't wait for more videos. Currently, I'm in the phase of taking my FAA written test soon. My goal is to get an 90% and start PPL training right after.
Great decision and I’m so happy I was able to inspire maybe a little. Good luck with the written!!!
@@NikosWings Thanks my brother. Tell the family I said "Hi". Can't wait for more videos.
No "get-there-itis". Good decision. Even though wife and daughter would prefer you to be back in Boca, I'm certain they support your decisions to just land and wait it out.
That was a good trip back, good decision making about where to divert too. Never take a chance when you are tired and the weather is bad. Glad it was nice for the flight down the water in New York and along the Florida coast. Another good video.
Definitely a good decision calling the layover sooner than later, Especially with the weather and up so early . Videos are always entertaining Cheers
First
Your stuff is simply The Best! Always an entertaining video ride!!!
I appreciate that!
Noticed the oxygen qty anunciator. No issue I presume? Maybe 20% left?
When less than 800psi (it hold 2000) it announciates
Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. take care.
Thank you! You too!
Niko - always great video and experiences that you share! I always learn from your videos. Thanks for continuing to out out your content!
My pleasure!
Great decision! If you ever need a RDU restaurant recommendation again in the future, Angus Barn is one of my favorites in the country and it's pretty close to the airport.
I’ll put it in my notes. By the way I had an awesome dinner that night at a fantastic sushi restaurant downtown. Don’t remember its name but it was great.
Great video as always Niko. Always great seeing you. Blessings
Same to you!
Thanks for your videos Niko and please keep them coming for us non flyers. You let us feel like we belong in the plane with you.
Thanks, will do!
Nice seeing you again buddy. Thank's for sharing!
Thanks for the visit

Excellent PDM Niko! Never push your own limits or those of the A/C. Many experienced pilots with lots of hours flying a well equipped A/C find themselves in trouble because they don't know when to call it a day and park the A/C and wait it out! Excellent decision making Niko!
