    I can't believe nobody mentioned what the mother said in the bad dream, "all I've ever done for you kids is love, love, love, and all you've ever done for me is LEAVE."
    The mom clearly guilted her kids for her suicide, she probably had abandonment/control issues and couldn't deal with her children growing up and becoming independent. That's the big reason the rat didn't want to leave, leaving is what drove her mother to suicide. She's trapped by the guilt she has over what her mother did, leveraging her self destruction against her children.
    Powerful stuff!!

    • @zilesis1
      @zilesis1 Год назад +68

      did you not notice the echo in that scene? of the mom repeating "PLEASE LEAVE! PLEASE LEAVE!". I think it's the opposite of your interpretation. the mom left to the sea to either find help or get to another ship or something like that, but the kid refused to go with her. now the kid rat feels horribly guilty for abandoning their mom and refuses to leave the ship cause either a) they don't wasnt to abandon the memories or the mom (picutres, things etc.) or b) they haven't fully gone through their grief yet and haven't accepted that the mom isn't coming back, hence why in the last scene they "bury" her by putting the picture in like a tombstone

    • @auxin903
      @auxin903 Год назад +159

      @@zilesis1 I dont think thats the case. I think that audio was meant to be a hint that somewhere deep down, the mother knew she was dragging her children down with her but couldnt/wouldnt stop self sabotaging. People who self sabotage drag others with them, and even if they recognize this - their self hatred can prove too stong to stop.
      "Please leave" is internal. A plead for everyone to abadon her before she ruins the few who love her. Maybe also the rat's self conciousness to save themself and not go down into the ocean.
      But regardless it seems the most straightforward thing here is that "walking out into the ocean" is a form of suicide.
      The mom took herself out and thats why the friend is so worried they will do the same.

      I know what it feels like to go through a cancer, since i had leukemia when i was 13.
      Let me tell you something.
      When i was in the hospital, even when i was at my lowest 'cause of the chemotherapy, i never EVER wanted to give up.
      I knew, deep down, that if things couldn't go like i wanted, even so... i was determined to make the most of my life, even in a state like that.
      I read, i played videogames, i tried to have some nice chats with my family and such, i wasn't gonna let a disease like that ruin my life.
      Not at all.
      If you don't ever forget to dream, if you don't ever to enjoy your life to the fullest, i'm sure you'll be not only able to overcome the obstacles in your life more easily... you will be able to truly enjoy the treasure that is your life 💖💖

    What's interesting is that rats on a boat always knew it was sinking before it actually did and would always get off as soon as possible on to dry land. There used to be a thing where if all the rats leave the boat, you better go too, or you could end up in the sea. I think this is neat.

    People offen calling seagull a "Sea rat"
    It might have nothing to do with the story, but to me it's kinda shows that even though they are a total difference species and seem like they are not getting along. But on the inside, there's a strong connection between them.

    Very beautiful. Very reminiscent of ren and stimpy but with a beautiful and human message. I felt like the story was talking about enmeshment with a mother, and how one mother’s love for her child, even sinking, can take her child with her. And it’s up to the child to let go with the help of a loved one, even if the mother sinks down without them. Thank you.

    The heaviness of the mom's dialogue and just the way she says "leave" makes my heart sink in the best way possible.
    Genuinely a beautiful story, one of loss and growth, realizing who all you've helped along the way while also fighting demons yourself.

    Stunning, trying not to cry cuz I’m in public but absolutely stunning, the imagery, the surrealism and the blend of semi-realism with your style, absolutely exquisite piece

    I love this. I feel like ive seen this style of animation before, i just cant put my finger on it. But in a sense it is so simple and intricate. Expresive and hauntingly beautiful.

    1:41 Took me a minute to realize that the mother's picture had barnacles for eyes. 2:21 And during the underwater sequence, we see her with those same eerie barnacle eyes! Nice attention to detail!

    I absolutely love the art style/art direction, voice acting and story line here. The few sprinkled in jokes are funny and the characters seems very interesting and likeable. This would make for an amazing show. Would love to see more, you guys are very talented :)

    That was so sweet, and sad, and brilliant. This is so much better than a lot of the animation on here because a lot of the other animations have no emotional through line and are mostly about what the animator likes to animate. A lot of it, in fact, has little to no plot, or a plot that is so jumbled and fragmented that it makes no sense. But this is brilliant through and through. Every frame tells the story and makes us feel for Angel and what he's been through. By the end, I was almost crying with him.
    You've really got something here, my friend. I hope you're continuing to use it.
