here’s my calarts 3rd year film! it was made with lots of love :) ^_^ music + sound by Lina Lopera ➡️ beaneuh?igshid=... 🐛 Watch other films made by my classmates: • 2023 CalArts Character...
Felt this deeply as a firstborn daughter. It is and was just SO hard to navigate a younger sibling's boundaries while waddling through your own childhood. Parents' disapproval, having to share things you thought was just for you. Thank you for the reminder that at the end of the day, family is still a home you can come back to. Not for everybody, but yeah. I love the way you draw and how you can make us focus solely on Mona(?)'s perspective while using such a wide lens.
Watching this really makes me appreciate having a sibling. We might have those little quarrels and we might hate some of their traits, but deep down there's always that familial bond that will always connect us. This is such a beautiful art. Be proud ❤
The sudden cut to the upset child (protagonist) made me think the baby was dead when it was really only scratched by a shattered toy. The fact that I was conditioned to make that prediction goes to show how extreme, unrealistic, and even violent stories tend to be. It's really the simple things in life that matter, and I think this animation captures that perfectly
It's kinda like what Hitchcock described about a man smiled scene to loving mom & kid scene compared to when the man smiled scene to a woman in beach suit. But yes, the whole point is that certain editing can impact the mood (between the subject & the observer/ between the topic to the responder).
I think it also demonstrates the intensity of emotions we feel as children. While we or the mom may see it as "just a doll," the child may actually see it as a death in a way - with their place in the family being destroyed.
.. perhaps the reason why the child feels so bad about the broken toy is because of the way their(not assuming gender here) mother responded. She pulls the baby away, as if to protect the baby from them, making it seem more like it was their fault. And like a comment said earlier, the feelings/story could be a little exaggerated. The way the child running away is animated seems like they threw themself off the hill in frustration, on purpose, but maybe in their rush they only tripped down it instead. I don't know, I just find these little details so interesting! 🌻
This animation is so stunning and heartfelt :,) I have a tattoo of a river so I can really relate to the personal connection to water, especially during tough/emotional times. I'll definitely be returning not only for the dazzling animation (gosh I love their little pink cheeks and foreheads) but also for the message :) You did a phenomenal job animator and I hope you know you've made at least one person's day better :))))
I used to watch this animation with my baby cousin every night,he would giggle and be so quiet smiling and watching it with me , I’m at college now thousands of miles away and wish I could be home with him watching it right now.Rewatching it by myself made me cry it’s so warm so like home I love this animation thank you for making it.
This was so cool to watch! I loved the details of the bugs and the waves pushing her into bed. One of my favorite times of the year getting to see all these beautiful films people have made!
This is such an amazing animation, the subtle sounds, the calm feel of it all and the breaking point were all perfectly thought out and executed. I also can’t get enough of the animation style. I’d love to hear what your inspirations were for your style and the story! The animation style reminds me a lot of memedokies art, while the clay props and calm feel also reminds me a lot of the game hylics! The overall story reminded me a bit of the my favorite movie: “song of the sea” as well. Good luck further on your animation journey, I am really excited to see what you’ll make in the near future! ❤
When I first saw this, the title caught me by suprise because I dont see my name very often so I decided to give this a watch. No joke, I almost started to cry. I love this animation, because I have sisters that I have a deep bond with. Thank you for creating such a beautiful animation! ❤
"In every hatred, there may lie our bond that you haven't made but what's now distancing. And sometimes it spring out though we may not be that close anymore."
This animation reminds me of when I was a kid. Anytime I did something wrong like accidentally hurt someone, it would be my instinct to run away. I just couldn't forgive myself for things and I used to think I would always feel guilty about the things I had done. Now I'm an adult it's interesting how that has changed.
I love the heart of this story so much. So simple but elegantly captures the give and take of having little siblings to care for. I love the whimsy of the water people, as well as the use of photographed clay models! Do you happen to be a fan of Mason Lindroth? Because I was delighted at the kitchen, it felt like something right out of his work. That just makes me so happy. Can't wait to see what else you make.
this is so so beautiful. i absolutely love it - the textures, the wide open space contrasting the intimate, relatable feelings it evokes. i especially love the wordlessness, and the lack of needing words.
I love the way you animate and depict water in this film. It's incredible to see the different versions of water that artists express it. Beautiful work!
I have an older sister. She always said that my existence suffered her so much. I can really understand why she said that to me but it kinda hurts when I was young😂 A love-hate relationship lasts forever❤Very great animation😊
I really feel sorry for the older siblings like my 2 big sister that run away because someone in our far relative promise to help them going to school because our parents couldn't,, they do help mom to take care of us younger,, Idk what to expect then she fell to the water,, I feel "shet" poor little big sister Glad this have a paranormal thing 😊 🥰
The audio in this is very... emotionally reminding(I'm not sure how else to describe?) It makes me wonder how the audio of the baby was captured. Did they record a real baby? and if so how did they get them to make those sounds? How did they know those were the right sounds to use?
Hi there! I used sound libraries to find the noises. As for the question about how i chose these specific sounds, Metias let me fully express my creativity both for the sound design and the soundtrack. I used what felt right for the scenes and took it from a very emotional and personal standpoint as I believe it was the best way to approach this project. Hope this helps!
@@beaneuh i really like it :) i've been waiting for it and i finally got a chance to listen it today, tho i wish it was longer, but i can always loop it so it's all good
It was a really nice touch having the water gently ebb and flow them towards the baby. This animation gave off such a warm feeling
А я когда смотрела, представила, что вода холодная, неприятная... Мокрая.... Потому что это было среди ночи. А ночью вода холодная.....

omg, same
i thought she had killed the baby or something i'm glad it was just a toy

That’s life, though😕
This made me cry :') A new baby can be tough for an older sibling. This was a sweet little snapshot of a family
I loved working with you on this project Metias! Hope your film gets the recognition it deserves 🐛
Hi, I really liked your song at the end! You’re so talented! Do you have it uploaded somewhere I could listen to it?
