I'm not sure why this video is blowing up lately, but I am grateful to all who enjoy the rescore-- however I highly encourage you to watch and give views to the original version of Scavengers which was apparently finally uploaded to RUclips this past year by one of the creators, Charles Huettner:
• Scavengers
But, I also want to explain to fans of the original who've found themselves here recently only to feel disappointed with an altered version (even though it says rescore right in the title) that when I uploaded this rescore several years ago, I had no idea it would be seen by anyone other than a few student filmmakers and friends. This was just an exercise done for an undergrad class several years ago to practice film scoring. Being one of those rare films with no score it was a great piece to practice on; it wasn't an attempt to improve or replace it. While much of it I still quite like, it is certainly not perfect and retrospectively some of the criticism in the comments is accurate. But, I think for that reason as an exercise for composers and music students who watch rescores, that makes it all the more educational and therefore valuable, if not for reasons that are useful to you fine folks.
At the time that I uploaded this, the original version was NOT on RUclips, in fact the official Vimeo version only had a few hundred views, and again this was only meant to be a means of demoing an exercise in composing. It initially got a handful of views and a few stragglers looking for the original, but far more people who liked the rescore, and then no noticeable traffic so I left it up, and for the reasons outlined above will continue to do so unless the creators ask me to take it down.
I think I speak for the majority, we all want more scavengers reign.
I loved it too man, but I think the story is complete and ended on a strong and hopeful note…
The second part would never live up to the original, they never do.
But that’s just my opinion, I get why people want more.
@The.Nasty. it could be a second part with different people though who survived the ship, kinda like how infinity train did their seasons, where it was different people each season discovering different things about the train
@@The.Nasty.the thing is, it was suppose to be a 7 season animation, that’s what their creators said.
@@OneTomato I honestly don’t believe that, but I’m happy to proven wrong.
I remember when I first saw this years ago, I thought "this needs/DESERVES its own goddamn show.." Well, now that's finally happening! HBO, I think Oct 19th
I saw it after binging Rick and Morty and thought “huh, this looks really familiar, the person design and the wildlife surrounding them…”
The whole show I was wondering if this was that and it was.
i’ve seen the whole thing. It’s unbelievably good
@@mershadesgaming noice! Good to know. I figured it was going to be, but haven't got around to watching it yet. My friend's coming to visit for a little over a week, next week, and I figured I would save watching it for when he was here, so we had something to binge when we got nothing better to do. Definitely looking forward to getting it started!
Speculative zoology and you.
Everything you need know about bored scientists and LSD
OK, you need to add ergot fungus into that. As well as those "bored" scientist quest that produced LSD. No scientist does a thing out of boredom, that's not how scientific discovery happens or the purpose that will drive inquery...
LucianCorrvinous Son of Hekaté I think you missed the joke-
@@LucianCorrvinus Uhm, sorry but this was just a joke about visuals and and i'd say, very bizzare natural mechanisms behind presented fauna and flora. I didn't mean to say that Spec. Zoology is a worthless gerne of science, quite the opposite in my opinion. Heh, how would i even stumble upon this video if i wasn't intrested in it's contents?
lmao
And what I was pointing out as a joke you could have done better. First of all it's not clear what you meant was that speculative biology Zack into Board sign is taking LSD. Well you don't necessarily feel that way and we're just making a jibe. You and I both agree that but you lived biology has its place. It is Morro Bay activity or a exercise then it is a branch of science that seeks to find things out by proving it to scientific method taking hypothesis that covers all the information that you have and seeing if it is indeed true. Rather it comes off as as a set of as you're talking about speculative biology Zack into aboard scientist who was looking for LSD. Something is I pointed out is neither happiness nor is true. And a board scientist is wildly different from estimate native one. So if I miss a joke maybe it wasn't me. Maybe it was you...
How does something with such high quality animation has so little views?
The original upload is on Vimeo: vimeo.com/179779722
@Randy Do You Want To Die Tran what
talsapps it’s not what intrests the masses
because this is not the original video, the uploader just rescored the music
JafuetTheSame oh that makes more sense
I saw this on Adult Swim and thought it was pretty cool. I had a bunch of questions at the end so I was mad there wasn't more. I really liked how they told the story without dialogue. Not many can pull it off⭐
Uncivilized elk made a really good film analysis on it
I liked it overall but the end was a little crummy.
What story was told? Sorry but I didn't really understand
Check out Interstellar 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. No dialog. Beautiful score (of course).
HBO Max just picked it up as a series
Was expecting it to end with them making a sandwhich for lunch
That would be perfect
Hmm, now that is an idea i cant behind
I watched the first season, straight after watching this.
Even better n refined cartoon. The Ideas are breathtaking and original.
The Robot L3VI babies were genius and cute.
Excellent story!
doing all that just to see home again
doing al that just to get high*
@@decorumpantroglodytes5962*all
I can't believe they did all that... Just to get high...
What am I saying, I can totally believe that.
You would do the same if it'll bring you back to the life you once knew
Rick and Morty Intensifies
I tHink it more than just getting high
Hmm
I think its just as possible that its an elaborate suicide, and that is like a "death vision"
Dont you hate it when glorbles try to steal the touge sap of the queen glutterfish you just caught
Nhung Hong yeah
Names check out
THIS IS AMANZING!
the animation reflects the world building, the music so epic it complements the world on of itself. The aliens, the plants and so forth are so fascinating to look at, throughout the whole 7 minutes I was left in aww... I would love to see more, I want thos to be a show!
So excited for the show
The thing I love about the music it gives the Star Wars feeling to it
Scavengers scassemble
Why is RUclips waiting to recommend watching this to the masses? This is a masterpiece! 👏👏👏
E :3 if they do the should recommend the original on the creators channel!

The power of desire is greater than the satisfaction of having..
Feels like a mix of genddy tartakovsky's work(with no dialogue and minimalistic art direction) and rick and morty(the art style plus the alien wildlife). I love it
That random guy Rick and Morty has shitty alien designs intentionally supposedly
@@magicman3163 eh, i still like the designs
Superbly done! More please!
This looks just incredible and Idk but it’s cool that they don’t talk they probably didn’t so often they just know what to do
I love this, the new show is amazing. If I could buy a blu-ray edition with the making of I definitely would
WHOAAAAAAAA
This is the most creative piece of media i have EVER seen, i cant even describe how amazing it freaking was
This looks like confinement
It's similar in that the style is hand-drawn, but the differences are very apparent.
This ecosystem is incredibly complex. How do you even begin to understand how things work.
I love this is a show now!!!
- Still makes more sense than The End Of Evangelion.
Orange fanta
I don't know what is going on, only thing i know that it is trippy as hell...... and i love it.
F to pay respects to small cute yellow thing
I just saw the first episode of Scavenger's Reign and thought it all looked oddly familiar, so I did some digging and found this. Turns out I saw it years ago; I think Owen Dennis (Infinity Train creator) linked to it somewhere.
The aliens are so cute and tame.
The guys with the proboscis and rotating irises would make great pets.
Full series now on Max
Watching this high was quite the experience.
Thought this was going to be an actual spec evo alien planet short film. What I got instead was a surprise, but it sure was a welcome one
CONGRATS ON THE HBO DEAL WOW HOLY SHIT U DESERVE IT
All that for a drug
Such a human move
Prefer the more ethereal background music. This one sounds like Indiana Jones music.
Scavengers reign was insanely good and will go down as one of those shows I wish to own a physical release of.
If i ever landed on an alien planet id die within the first 30 seconds of landing, id just touch everything like an idiot.
If you touch everything you can die even on earth
I doubt whoever made this wasn't under the influence of a mind altering drug.
cant wait for the show
And now... HBO MAX animation serie...
This is amazing
got picked up as an hbo show wooo
is it related to scavengers reign hbo 2023 ?
Yeah, made be same people.
The puzzle isn’t that hard!
The puzzle:
There should be more short films like this. I would love to see more a film of a documentary on imaginary alien life. Is there any more like this?

Welp…we’re getting a series gentleman…prepare for a vacation in hell
Is this the concept short that got turned into a show? The show is amazing btw
refreshing sci fi art to be honest. its amazing detail. pain in the ass to make.
THIS IS FREAKING AVESOME
I am so disturbed and confused
holy crap
Very Moebius
And that is bad?
I feel very sad when they kill the cute running creature at the end to feed the giant manta ray.
Paulo Garcia my interpretation of that is that manta ray IS the little running guy, they just help it transform, like a butterfly from a caterpillar kinda deal.
Nathan Alexander why the fuck would it eat itself
@@kingtreedede7303 recover nutrients. a lot of animals who shed skin eat it to regain strength lol
FantomToast yeah makes sense but um
It straight up ate it’s corpse so I think that’s a little over the line
@@kingtreedede7303 ik. I'm not with what the uploader is saying, even though I tried to justify it. yeah... I was just trying to justify him to try and understand him better basically.
That intro is very Pikmin esque
DoHickey using esque doesn't make your thought more complex
Nn Je Ok so what would you have me say instead?
DoHickey "that intro sort of reminds me of pikmin"
Nn Je Alright so what was so wrong about me using "esque" did I use it incorrectly or is it just your trigger word?
That last part was a joke btw don't take it seriously
Nn Je why does the word esque rub you the wrong way?
Funny watching it after I finished "Scavengers reign". What a great searies it has been.
A strange blue fish killed a poor dinosaur at the end of
Anybody else find it odd how some of the alien organisms behave and are operated suspiciously similar to technology? I think one might assume that these may be the remnants of a bygone native civilization based on organic biological technology.
Seeing the way that little frog-like thing at 2:04 operates the inside of the yellow twinkie it came in, one might presume that it may have been like the master species to this technology, even though the way it reacts to the girl flicking at it seems to suggest it just *part* of the technology, and the fact that it seems to have an awfully epiphemeral lifespan don't really seem like the hallmarks of a master species.
Nevertheless, I find it fun to imagine it once *was* the master to this organic technology and then something similar to Nemo Ramjet's All Tomorrows happen to it, demoting it into a lesser creature and just part of the technology.
I think it all seems like interesting plot material that this short film could've delved deeper into - shame it's little more than just two humans using alien lifeforms to get high.
It’s now a cartoon
beautiful... anxiety inducing...
Remind me of the wind valley
Interesting, I like what Green Street is doing with this and that they didn’t change much , still, I believe Adult Swim would have definitely done the property Justice
I have no idea what half this even was except that it's very pretty.
This has a series of its own now btw, has a few long episodes
It reminded me star wars. It is like:"MEANWHILE on some other planet"
This was both bizarre, but also esplendid.
MORE!!!! MOOOOREEEE
If this is what aliens are like then evolution has basically been drop kicked out window
i just love the scudgy pubberts
Wait the spike ball from. the poop is the same as the one they used to lure the deer thing. Dose that mean its just a big loop
This music sounds very starwarsy
Basically subnautica on acid
*It’s like a planet of Scorn*
As a personal opinion, I don't think the added music improve the message. On the contrary it sweetens it and make it more difficult for the observer to interpret the good and bad of what is happening. Losing the growl of the big flying being on this version of the video is really sad.
For those who want it, here is one of the versions that preserves the original audio: ruclips.net/video/yEkJHMWqfzw/видео.html
Hi Hector! Thanks for your input. As a composer, I'm applying my own interpretation of the emotional/narrative content of the scenes; whether this makes it more difficult for one to tell what is happening, then, depends on whether we see the film the same way! As for the screech, it wasn't something I connected with particularly from an auditory/sonic perspective so when I was mixing it all down I made that sacrifice, as the point was more to showcase the music. Surely, in a real situation the music would have been mixed lower under the sfx in other parts as well. But I am sorry that something you liked about the original was sacrificed!
I think we can both agree, though, that it is a really crazy animated short!
also, you can view the original here at Joseph Bennett's actual Vimeo account! Which I'm sure he'd prefer ;)
vimeo.com/179779722
Hector Carranza Thanks dude
I totally agree. I think that the most important factor on this film is the raw sounds of the instant. I don't know how to explain it but it gives the essence of each moment of the film. Adding this epic music makes it a bit "trying to be an epic film" The composer made a great job, and could capture all the feelings but it just doesn't match with the film. Great job tho
When you really miss your homeland
I'm wondering if these two were Marsha and John that were later shown in the series...
Lol that was a sick shroom ride!
please make more of this!!!
Im not stoned enough for this
yeah the score is a bit much, but for a class project it's really good
Kinda a rube goldburg-est series of events leading the biology on this planet. I wonder how these sequence of events would ever come together in evolution, or how the stranded survivors would ever find out that a random quadruped pissing on a mushroom would produce a pod with a small creature inside that, once ordered, produces a small seed which can be used in conjunction with some native flowers to produce a lure for a large whale like creature to crash onto land so you may intricately manipulate it's organs in a piloting fashion so it produces a sort of food for local fauna that apparently is poisonous to a small creature the two had earlier tamed, and once fed to it, causes it to die and hence summon a massive flying ray-like creature that would eat it to produce excrement that, when peered into, either induces a hallucination according to the whims of that person, or allows said person to metaphysically place themselves somewhere else in time and space as a ethereal projection. How could you possibly figure all that out by yourself?
how your grandparents describe life in the past
It's like somehow a cross between studio ghibli, Steven universe, and Super Jail's animation.
And Studio Triggered
@@RedEzelt ... Who?
beautiful story, but am i the only one thinking about how they ever found that out? I know that they were stuck there for a long time but still there is 12 - 15 extremely precise requirements just to get that outcome, like how would they know that the seed of a plant that rarely occurs from the piss of a monster would need to be grown and mixed with a plant to make a device to get a monster with poisonous saliva to emerge?
Um...scavengers are humans in wings of fire...
Who else knew this?
Awesome,thanks for sharing
I Remember when this short first aired on toonami.
awesome
God damn fetch quest...
I want 2 hours of this
Alien end beautiful.❤
My head hurts...
We need more
in my opinion the added score kind of ruins the feel that the og vid created , as it gave this alien feel as the only thing you heard was the ambiance of the world and also the actions of the scientists as the music defense that out like in this scene 1:59 and the lack of music made a sense of aloneness and at the scene after the music didnt really fit in with what was happening and kind of puts you out of the immersion making u feel like your watching a star wars movie when ever there is a action scene and i=the music doesnt really mix with the characters actions as they act like its not a big deal wile the music is hyping up
totally, that is actually the reason I, as a student at the time, did that scene that way. There's this whole dramatic ecosystem on this weird planet, all this amazing stuff (they're hunting a creature who pees on a plant and it's urine turns into an egg that has a little alien and an organic computer inside that spits out a bean through it's eyeball and the alien has to SACRIFICE ITS LIFE to make that happen-- what!? that's pretty damn dramatic!), I saw the scene as having this bigness on a micro level and when we zoom back out to the humans they seem to take it for granted and are just using this planet's gifts as a means to their end, it's totally no big deal to them-- it has an intentionally tongue-in-cheek element to its seriousness and at the time I wanted to illustrate that contrast/duality in the music.
@@nathanalexander1780 i see what you mean dude
All that for a trip
That was so cool
The Re-scoring made it even better than the original, superb job lads.
It's unbelievable why there are so few likes ???
I'm afraid I'm not getting the story...
The weird alien planet reminds me of the planet in an old French animated film called the Time Masters (fr. Les Maîtres du temps). I wonder if it was an inspiration?
Nausicaa Valley of the Wind
This is like Fantastic Planet! Fantastic! Check out Interstellar 5555: The Story of the Secret Star System. No dialog. Beautiful score (of course).
