- As a first project in what I'm calling my RUclips Studio, I'm installing the RODE PSA-1 boom arm with the desk mount and trying out some soldering to hide the cable as well as a quick desk re-vamp.

Good stuff. You pointed out the obvious change I would have made - moving the boom to desk mount a bit further back so it is more out of the way. Remember to high pass filter the mic to help reduce proximity effect and plosives. You will also need to boost the top end frequencies if you are using a foam windshield. Have fun!
Thanks Matthew. Yeh I've now gone back to the clamp as I changed my desk so it's now at the back and tucks behind the imac. Still plenty of reach to my face though!
Very useful video. Im starting a garden room build in a couple of weeks, ironically as a RUclips studio for my son and he needs a boom arm upgrade as he has had exactly the same issue with those pesky edge clamps holding an expensive mic.
Nice! Well I recommend this one, pricey but hasn't fallen off. The clamp is super sturdy too and I've reverted back to it since building a new desk 👍
6:49 actually, the corner is nice since you can stow it away and the desk looks the best, but i find that the closer it is to the edge of your desk, the better, because it doesn't get in your field of view or infront of your monitor when extended.
Do you any extra slack cable to allow for movement of the stand and adjusting mic position?
No not really actually, it flexes with the movement of the boom arm, so the cable is all pretty tight at all times
I came to find out how to tighten the desk mount nut and you hammered yours in :P gg
How big is the opening of the psa1 because was thinking of using the pig hog xlr cable which is 8mm thick?
That'll work, there opening's big enough for that. I've now done a new desk and reverted to the clamp so the XLR cable now comes out the bottom of the arm so just 10cm showing, still a lot neater than velcro!
