A list of highlights that no one asked for:
- Casual harmonics at 0:51
- 1:35-1:40 how do you even move from opposite ends of the neck that quickly
- 2:13 will maybe get you to yell "OH MY GOD"
- 2:20 is such a good variation of the theme
- 3:03 to the end, do i even have to say anything
- this whole damn song WOW
More like 'The highlights that I didn't ask but turns out I need'
The slapping threw me off, I loved it
Freaking amazing!! She's got the soul of a 50 year old.
Change bass
I mean is it really that good? Just looked like some scale work over a track?

It's been two years since this masterpiece came out. I still listen to it!
Same. She's my inspiration. I got a bass guitar recently, actually.
Me too…good music is timeless
Two years later and it still gives me chills
The upside of Julia's covers is it adds that "umph" that bassheads love and appreciate. The downside is once you hear her cover, the originals just don't add up anymore. 😂😂
fr man. julia got me under a spell. dua lipa please just hire her. you'll do yourself and everyone else a favor
Never heard the original. Julia is the only source I need
very very well said
She creates masterpiece after masterpiece cos she is a genius.

3:02 - slap bass starts at the "one and", throwing the listener off, just to land smoothly on the groove again. Killer! And Julia never ever rushes a note, which incredible!
The Fireworks begins, in case someone fell asleap , dæng!
I have lost count of how many times I've come back to this over the years. It's ridiculously good! Just outrageous.
0:40 put the pick down, make sure glasses are ok:
ok guys, prepare, shit's gonna get real
*Ready for takeoff 🤯*
*sorry pick I've got something to nail*

What a GROOVE LOL

1:37 her smirk after she did that run is priceless
2:13
How she plays it so busy filled with licks, fills and mix of different techniqes in every second of the song, yet makes it all sound in place is beyond me.
2:20 > the octave transition lower that she did in this part was so amazing and so natural.
Best cover, hugs from 🇧🇷❤️
Exactly! Sounds so damn sick
She smirks every time she knows she does something badass, she kills every song she covers.
Graham Johnson she’s also killing every single girl who likes girls (including me)
@@argumentativedreamgirl calm your tits
@@argumentativedreamgirl It does be like that, with my little pan ass
As musicians we get those "tricky parts" in songs that we gotta practice more, and nailing them during the song is such a good feeling. I definitely do the same thing
Playing bass itself is so badass I think!
Next level.
ooooh yes!!! 👍👍👍
Seeing Matt at different places in youtube is kinda funny. Definitely one of the best drummers I've ever seen, if not the best.
The best drummer and the best bassist on youtube, PLS, we need a colaboration!
just mixed both your versions because the bass cover needed some drums and the drum cover needed a bit more bass and it's crazy good to listen to
@@codi149 post it
I listen to this version of the song about once a month. It's probably the best bass cover of any song on the internet. No joke, no exaggeration.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bass player with her feel, everything is intuitive and she never over elaborates, absolute pleasure to watch and listen.
This proves it...
Julia doesn't *"play"* groove...
...Julia *"IS"* groove.
This notification made my entire day. This album has some of the best bass lines in modern pop. So glad you covered this. Amazing as always
2 years later and this is still the most tasteful and badass example of "initiate slap mode"
3 Years later I still come back to watch this amazing cover, always puts me in a good mood
When a bass player puts their pick down that’s basically them saying “Hold my beer...”. She crushes this, as always.
And adjusted the glasses- that's how you know!
I've always been a rest stroke/slap player and never could run a pick worth a hoot. That's been a hole in my abilities. I discovered her from Davie504, where he (tongue in cheek) made fun of her for not slapping. In the few videos I've seen, she's shown absolute mastery of pick and rest stroke playing. I was getting ready to deep dive for some evidence she could slap... all I had to do was wait for the last minute of this video....
Trifecta in play!
One of my favorite things about watching her videos (other than her insane playing) is when she smiles after she nails a big run or complex part of the song. Pure joy on her face.
Dua's bassist: *exists*
juliaplaysgroove: *I'm gonna ruin this man's whole career*

For real! 😂
😅
Damn fact
@dualipa HIRE HER
I like how this cover shows proficiency in multiple techniques as well as using creative fills, and variations on the main riff, that never feel out of place for the sake of showing off. Excellent cover and entertaining to boot!
2:13 Julia: "Oh shit, I've done it again. I murdered the dance floor once again. Oops."
"sorry for your loss😌"
This video felt like a gift to me.
Isolation
- cons: isolation
- pros: more videos from julia
I'm really excited that you're enjoying Future Nostalgia, cause I am too so that means there's a lot more chance of covers from the album showing up in the channel. Thank you again.
PS: the 8 dislikes (so far) on this video are from people who are already soulless and heartless
I like Julia's channel, but just because someone else might have different taste in music, or anything else for that matter, it doesn't make them soulless or heartless. Quite a narrow minded comment.

2 years in and I'm still listening to this at least once a month. I get the solo stuck in my head and can't accomplish anything until I hear it. Thanks for making me smile every time :)
Doesn't matter how long it's been, whenever I come back to this video, I leave with this massive joyful, beaming grin on my face. It's just so so enjoyable to watch.

As an musician myself, bass and drums, and a huge passion for funk music, this rendition is far beyond cover music. Flawless technique,
extremely good musical/melodic ear and supergroovy execution.

Hi Julia, 73 old musician here. Guitar and drums all my life. For giggles, I took up the bass last year and of course have explored the internet for covers. I can't tell you how much I admire your musicianship. That you are self taught is also amazing, I hope you find a path to a career, as I am certain that you could only have reached your level by devoting thousands of hours of dedicated practice. This is one of the most musical bass guitar covers online.
She gave the bass line a whole new life. And made it sing. She's got tremendous upside.
thats amazing
This comment is underrated, and so true
This is so wholesome
im a 13 year old musician and i agree she is really talented :D
All the playing styles in only one master class. I remember when I saw this video, and the other one (Don't Start Now) the first time in the premiere 2 years ago, and they blow my brain, my mind and spirit.. I'm an addict to the slap section, and to every second of the cover, every little detail, every so carefully piece of arrangements, and also to the smile and joy of Julia. You have 10 gods in your hands, and only you know how to organize them to create this level of perfection. I hope my daughter reach even the 25% of your skills. Goddess!!!!!!
Pick, pluck then slap. Just crushed every way to play a bass in one song. She’s amazing.
Best part about quarantining is that the most creative people are stuck with their instruments. Cant be better than this.
Matthew Brohn this so true, its like destiny had given them this precious time.
Nothing creative about a cover, just skills.
fulvio bria dude! You can be creative in covers if you add some fills in it or even changed it a bit
The way she plays it isn't a cover anymore. When you can elevate the track to be better than it was, it becomes innovation.
Matthew Brohn that was cool what u said but its too much bro 🤣. I have a big respect on her but still i consider it a great “cover”
She’s gonna be playing with big artists in a few years, calling it now. She’s too good for just covers.
Rusty Shackleford gev delano : hold my candy

Dua will not be the highlight of the song if her bassist did the same way
@@Sebastian-pt5qx It's not a real bass on the song
Ian Kirkpatrick used some Kontakt plugin, some mm scarbee plugin i think in dua's song.
Original Bassline creator(digital or analog bass) is better... why? he creates a bass line that helps a song to become popular... Julia covers it with his original style yet foundation of its notes is based on what the original does to the song... I hope you get what I am saying
legit one of the best bass cover artists right here. that nasty slap part at the end could just be on loop for me
If I were Dua Lipa’s producer I’d be hiring you. You just improved the song by a lot

I'm GREATLY disappointed!

Yeah...With that bass this song would have been a big hit..!!! 😃😜👍
HAHA, exactly
When the bar is already raised so high and we're all looking for inpseration in these mad times, this lovely 19 year old who has quite obviosly dedicated her life to THE BASS comes along and raises that bar higher, that is to be celebrated.. BIG TIME!!
I am a ‘newly fascinated with bass guitar’ person. I always feel the behind the scenes work of bassist gets over shadowed by the guitar. You are my daily inspiration ❤
You are the reason that I, 51 years old, began listen to Dua Lipa. Great bass playing. Every video on your channel is worth to been watched. You are amazing!
This arrangement was amazing. That thumb picking you did in the middle, followed by the slap section at 3:00... I didn't expect it.
Head bobs and stank faces were had. You've got an amazing groove.
SHE SMILES AFTER EVERY SUCCESSFUL RIFF ITS SO ADORABLE
tbh every second is a 'holy shit' moment. legendary
I keep coming back to watch these videos for the last few years, each time I watch I'm as amazed as the first time I saw them. I think without a doubt I'd Julia in the top 3 bass players in the world, gifted
i wont say something new, but, besides that i truly and deeply admire your playing, the face expression you show, it adds too much to the performance you give, you really demonstrate how you enjoy this. The arrangements you made to the song just made it unbelievably better. It's something that when you're on spotify and this song appears, you wait for this slap to happen, but the bad thing is that it doesn't. You feel a bit empty in this part in the original song. You're such an inspiring woman.
Well said. My introduction to the song was here. When I listened to the original, I found the bass line seemed hollow. Kudos to this young lady. She picked it, fingered it and slapped it. FUNKY!!!
We need to protect Julia at all costs. She has been graced by the BASS gods
Whenever I'm sad, I always come back to this cover seeing your smile is enough to make me smile to

Ctrl C + Ctrl V
ABTD starts with 3 on E, BMH starts ar with 3 on A. ABTD also has less notes. Having the pronounced root note at the "one" count of a measure has always been typical funk/disco, so not only particularly Queen. I believe Kool and the Gang was the first using the funky 3 E notes with Hollywood Swinging, followed by John Philip Souza and Chic
Jasper van Loo says “3 on E”, you’ve got to be a vulfpeck fan ?
Have you heard "INXS - Need you tonight"? It's much closer to that than another one bites the dust
