It's pretty simple, really. When they are taking their time boxing up the camera, it is being moved through the back of the box off stage (those cameras can roll in any direction). So how can he film the guy in the audience? The footage you see of the camera is actually from a much smaller camera built into the 'front' of the box. This is why a) His first close-up is out of focus (a $170k camera would not have this problem) and when they open the box, they set the lens-side down VERY carefully.

The camera move through a mirror tunnel is pretty much right. But the rest is actually much simpler from a technical standpoint (but not performance wise): It's pre recorded and the guy from the audience is a stooge. Why had the hole of the box to be covered in the first place? Also you can check that the first part before the camera footage gets black it's 100% in sync with davids movement, after that it's not anymore if you check frame by frame. For example the lamp right next to the camera turns a little bit after being 'adjusted' (probably this was made to convince the audience, so it could easily a remote controlled gear), but it's by a few frames not in sync anymore. Still a really cool illusion, which works even better on old TV resolution. :D

@2:29 a 'pointless' cover is removed from the lens hole. This is needlessly foldy and complex and the rear of it is the same colour as the backdrop. This is left conveniently at the right base until @3:16 when the woman quickly removes it. Moments later @3:23 the 'pointless' right-hand spotlight operator is seen to the left of the cam, manipulating the panel. He then hides out of the main shot while he fiddles, only to reappear, wheeling his spot-light as a cover into a totally irrelevant position.
After analyzing this video to death I think I know how the mirror tunnel is executed. I believe the back flap of the camera container has mirrors folded underneath it so when the back flap is raised up the mirrors can fold out towards the back wall. We never get a good look at the back of the camera container when they are doing this. In the brief side view (when David is taking off the cover for the camera) we see the uneven row of panels on the back wall. If you look carefully you can tell that that row corresponds with the curve of the camera container at the bottom. This curve would have to be there if the mirror was attached and folded out of the back panel of the container. Now later after the container is strapped up they move it around on the stage, but note that the rear of container's back panel is never shown. I believe that is because the mirrors are folded back flat on it right before they start wheeling it around the stage. There would also have to be a sliding panel on the back wall that can be removed when the mirrors are concealing that section to roll the TV camera out of the container and back stage.

yes, he uses the same thing in this as in Video to Life, moving everything back and forth from the back wall to the box, etc.
