- FIND ME AT / dorystentorian . For more, hit damienatloppers.... [12/03/2016] I just learned that Tom passed away three weeks ago. After my upload of him went viral, we were in communication for a while. He was a real gent. I was sad to hear of his passing. Hopefully, this piece will last as a tribute to his genius. And NO, for the anti-smokers, his death was TOTALLY unrelated to smoking - which he gave up years ago anyway. In actuality, "Tom Mullica passed away today. Tom had gone into the hospital for a routine hernia operation and due to complications, blood clots formed and he had multiple strokes. He was placed into a medically induced coma after he suffered organ failure and finally on February 18th he was taken off life support." He will be missed by fans of magic, great entertainment and just really nice guys.

I discovered this guy around the end of 2015 and I binged so much of this work. I even found his website which he had done himself (you could tell he wasn't a web developer lol) and I reached out to him telling him that I loved his work and I offered my services to re-do his entire website for free. He graciously accepted and offered to give me some signed stuff as payment but a couple of months later he passed away from complications from a hernia surgery that caused him to have multiple stokes... RIP Tom!

Tom was so great. He had a unique look for a magician, a tall, gangly sort of nerd with a butter smooth voice, a perfect delivery, and some unique tricks. RIP my man.

6:59 , it’s when he palms the cigarettes and throws it on the floor (put on 0.25x speed). In this case he had the table to hide it, in other routines he puts in his jacket, and it’s so quick you can’t notice it. A master at his craft!

I love how perfectly he executed this act. He didn’t miss any tosses into his mouth and he perfectly spaced out those 4 cigarettes when he smiled.
I saw other earlier versions of his act where he had a really hard time tossing smokes into his mouth like that but he still handled it really well

@@laszlonagy02 maybe it increases your risk of lung cancer maybe not. Who really knows? My grandma smoked since she was 14. Almost 70 now and she still looks and acts very young. My grandpa died of lung cancer at around 50 though so who can really say?

Insane. First thought: Those cigs had to be fake, but searched that is was indeed real and he had alot of pain during the actions. He said it was the laughs and reactions from the audience that motivated him and kept him going on. Thats incredible. No wonder why nobody else does this. Unique!

This is from a BBC show, "Stuff The White Rabbit", which was supposed to be the antidote to the more usual mainstream magic shows. It only had a very short run - one series in 1997 - because the BBC in their wisdom broadcast it at 11pm on a weekday.

How many youtubers have put this in their favorites and watch it at least a couple times a year and still its the best magic trick ever? No other magician that I know of has performed a rendition of this trick for some reason.
The actual trick is not that complex. It's the entire package that makes it so amazing.
I never actually seen any of his other magic tricks except the cigarette trick and that alone is amazing as it is.
I feel really bad watching this, after finding out he was in a lot of pain doing this, and as a result of the trick, couldn't get health insurance for nearly ten years.

What an incredible act. What an incredible magician. So sad to hear about his death. He will never be forgotten
Love this illusion, completely suspends your disbelief while he uses practical tricks and tactics to avert your attention and in the end subvert your expectations thus making the act feel even more impressive than it already obviously is.
Right before he puts the last napkin in, the one he shoved in really fast he palms the entire wad in his hand, he does it extremely fast from tons of practice, you have to slow it down to really see it, he’s really good at it. He’s not swallowing them. He would get a extreme amount of nicotine poisoning and die. Very impressive.
And the card is all in dropping the marker.

Quick Facts about Tom Mulica: He was born in Wisconsin, His middle name was Blaine. David Blaine the famous magician uses Tom's middle name out of respect for the incredible magic Tom did that inspired him to be a magician. On February 15, 2016, Mullica was placed in an induced coma following complications stemming from a routine hernia operation, which caused him to have several strokes. He subsequently suffered from organ and liver failure. On February 18, it was decided to take Mullica off life support. He was 67 years of age. That's is amazing he lived that long considering the amount of cigarrette smoke and tabacco he inhaled on a regular basis.
I've watched this vid at least a dozen times and laugh every time. He really is one of a kind.

Aaah, those wonderful times when cigarettes weren't forbidden in TV shows …
At 6:58 he does an odd motion with two napkins. The reason to this I believe he is setting up a sleight of hand and he needs his right dominant hand to do this. See how he puts two down on his right and oddly uses humor to disguise his right hand fanning out the napkin. at 7:00 the ball inside his mouth is dropped into his right hand.
So quick and you would never notice unless like me you watched the entire thing at .25 speed. He still 100% burned the inside of his mouth for this trick.

TheXtremisT I assume he took it while shuffling the deck. The card was never on the pile she had in front of her.
@@mattpyro90 He removed it whilst he was doing all the patter about the cameras and her hair, either just let it slip under the table or palmed it and placed it elsewhere (the camera cuts away so I don't know for sure). The card trick is simple, it's the cigarette manipulation that's the real show.

Tom became quite rightly concerned about the cumulative effects on his health. He got himself checked out and fortunately there was no medical evidence of any damage to tissue, cancer etc. He stopped performing the routine, and has never performed it since. I can't give you exact dates, but to the best of my knowledge he stopped in 2005 or 2006.

It's definitely different from the magic trick my uncle showed me when I was a kid. Most of his magic tricks were to make me look elsewhere and hide things in his pocket.
