  • Richard Morris Hunt 1827-1895 was a leading architect of The Gilded Age in New York City, Newport, Rhode Island and beyond. His designs include the Great Hall Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty pedestal and many of the mansions on Fifth Avenue. Some of Hunt's Newport Gilded Age mansions include Marble House, the Breakers, Chateau-sur-Mer, Belcourt and Ochre Court. The Biltmore Estate, Asheville is also Hunt's design.
    Some of his clients included members of the Vanderbilt family, Frederic Church, Ogden Mills, members of the Astor family and many public and ecclesiastical buildings.
    The memorial is located at 5th Avenue and East 70th Street directly across from the Frick Collection.
