The only ones that are reasonably priced are the warchest bundle with 1, 2, and united offensive. Doesn’t seem to matter how many years go by, they think their abandonware games with more security holes than swiss cheese are Nintendo or something.

Do the Extraction Point video. I adore FEAR and Extraction Point is one of my few "perfect games." Difficulty, even the hardest mode, is so well handled, the weapons are balanced just right, you can kick down doors, the AI has new toys and improvements. The atmosphere and the environments are great. Hell, it's even the only 'scary' one out of the entire series (besides the famous hallucination scene from Perseus Mandate). Damn, I want to go play Extraction Point all over again
You should give Advent Rising a look, one of the biggest "what could have been" in gaming history.

by the way, there is a game you might want to give a try, it looks like a low budget russian Doom 3, the game is called "Kreed", it's a 2003 game, I played about half an hour so far and it seems decent so far, it is a really unknown game though

Thank you Jarek for taking me through my childhood when I played all these budget titles. I'm from Czechia and Poland is our neighboor so they supplied us with these poor games :) You should try some Czech titles like Mafia 1 or Operation Flashpoint (the old ones). These are quality titles.
Now I've remembered an FPS game that got some pretty low scores, but I saw everywhere on sale back in the day: Shellshock 2. Apparently it's a Vietnam War setting, with some horror elements to it due to trauma. I've played only the demo for it, but that was a long time ago, so yeah... It seemed decent gameplay wise, I guess.

Horror elements due to trauma? Not really you fight zombies in that game, experiment gone wrong kinda plot. It was a shit game really.

@@andrewstencel first shellshock was pretty fun to play tough. It had no horror stuff in it and tried to be gritty and brutal, i can recommend that one.

hey jarek, I know you're probably not gonna see this but im having trouble changing the FOV. I've already played half of the game, and when I change the FOV it only applies to a new game and multiplayer, not on my saves. Please, if you know anything, let me know
The anthrax thing was real. Shirō Ishii's Unit 731 experimented with anthrax and plague bombs, which were used in the second Sino-Japanese war, and some were even sent over the pacific to target south Cali, it was called operation "Cherry Blossoms at Night".

Here's a gem thats not really an FPS but something ive never seen anyone really give a commentary for. Myth: The Fallen Lords, I suggest you give it a look. Abandonware from Eidos Interactive, the studio that was the old Tomb Raider games that closed up shop in 2009. Its a really hilarious game and I think you would enjoy it!

glad to know some of these unknown low budget indie games are turning out to be half decent Necrovision, Necrovision 2, Alpha Prime and this game all ended up being good to great games
The FOV workaround is probably changing vertical FOV, which is pretty uncommon. Though you can use some online calculator to make it easily convertible to what you want traditionally.
It's def not vert. If it was vert it'd be giving me super fish eye lens visuals at the fov I set it to

Can you, at some point, play the CT Special Forces games? Especially Fire for Effect as it's one the games that I still remember playing back then. I feel like it was a pretty nice game but maybe nostalgia blinds me.
There is also a game known as Mission In Asia made with the same engine, there is also Modern Warrior Special Tactics
(Specnaz 2) made with it. Burut engine Gamersgate is the only legal source for those. Get the DRM free copy of Mission in Asia, the none DRM free copy is broken because of an unproper securom crack.

Hey I wanna reccomend a game called freedom fighters. It was a hidden gem of my childhood. It’s developed by IO interactive I think, the same ones who developed hitman 2.
The color pallet in the first game probably came from the idea that grey's and dull colors make everything look more realistic. Ie. Gears of war in 06'

I played only about a half hour of that game, and that was only because Walmart was bundling the Xbox version with the Steelbook edition of True Crime: New York City for $15.

I totally agree with that review this mini bosses are annoying af etc etc, but i still really like and enjoy this game.
If you want to play a really interesting and obscure fps, you should try Sniper: Path of Vengeance. It's a charming buggy mess by polish devs which is not well known at all but gathered a cult following in Hungary, kinda became a meme. You should be able to find the game for download.
If you are still on a kick for interesting old fps games, I think you might enjoy Söldner: Secret Wars. Luckily the devs made it free to download after moving on from supporting it.

Even if the FOV requires hex editing or a .dll file to change, at least it (presumably) works properly then? I couldn't but think of cases of triple-A games messing up spectacularly regarding FOV. Like how Bioshock 2 dropped the ball big time with its FOV. Sure, it's adjustable via .ini file editing, but the catch is that _every single_ goddamn transition (e.g. loading screen, cutscene, loading a save, etc.) in the game causes the FOV to *reset* to its default motion sickness inducing tunnel vision value, and the best workaround is to bind one or more of the most often used keys to also set the FOV to your preferres custom value, so the act of playing the game keeps your FOV from changing itself. Unbeliavable jankiness from a major developer released game.
I'd suggest to try Desperados: wanted dead or alive. It's a pretty old game but I feel like it's still pretty enjoyable.

The game didn't make an impression on me when I played it a couple of years ago. I think the movement and combat weren't very smooth; not as smooth as e.g. RtCW; a game from a previous generation. Perhaps I should give it a retry.
