I wish this came out a couple years ago... This same thing happened to one of my corn snakes. I was told to give him warm soaks everyday. Didn't end up working in the end and the snake passed after about six months unfortunately. Glad this worked for you!
the way the abdomen of animals (including us) can just be heated, shaken, or massaged in certain ways and that makes us pass poo is pretty funny, like damn, it really is that simple sometimes, like emptying a yogurt tube
I teared up a little seeing all the vet students collected around the snake. This isn’t an experience even vets get to have often. So many times I’ve been to a vet and they’ve done the best they could but obviously had to dig into their brain of what they may have heard in school. Because our pets are less common folks don’t get experience in treating them. So many times I’ve had docs prescribe something wrong for my snake before I found out you have to seek the specialists. Even then some areas don’t have these. Emily and Ed’s collection not only provides a public service through education but also a huge service to these animals, their keepers and the all around badassery of what these students could become. Kudos to you two and your collection of animals for a huge public service. Okay I’m a sap… but now I’m crying haha
As someone with IBS who knows that regular massage, jumping jacks, and literally grabbing and shaking your abdominal area help constipation, I'd say you're right!
Perhaps it would be beneficial if the therapy were extended?(i am loud thinking here) In mammals, fluid is recommended for severe constipation (infusion, helps the intestines soften the faeces) and for people with vascular problems, swimming therapy is recommended because the water pressure from the outside helps. Perhaps the positive effect can be increased if the animal is soaked in warm water for a few minutes beforehand (twice, pressure from the outside and fluid) and then gets vibration therapy. Would something speak against this? Even in snakes with a rather dry climate, there shouldn't be any negative long-term effects (RI)? Thanks for the great video, extremely educational :-)
I’m not a snake expert at all but it’s a common practice (?) for people to bath their constipated snakes to get them to poo, so if you combined the bath and vibration therapy, they probably wouldn’t be constipated for very long at all 😂
Just to be clear, I am not making fun of your comment because I agree, that does sound plausible, but I can't get the image of trying to get a snake to drink warm prune juice out of my head.😆
Yeah I was thinking something similar. Maybe bathing the snake after the vibration therapy could help them pass any stool that was broken off the main lump by the vibrations. I'm not an expert on snake care but I've seen other videos where bathing is used to encourage a dehydrated reptile to drink. (The right thing to do might depend on the species, there may be some species where it's not a good idea to bathe them)
I hope Kevin from NERD sees this. Either he'll have something interesting to add about this practice or their team will have some fun times making a video about this.
You read my mind!!! I’m like why didn’t they just call Kevin!!!! So I need to know if he approves of this, is so how would he use it. And I an update on this baby! To me the video wasn’t complete.
I saw the title of this video and was like... that sounds dirty. Surely not what I am think it is. Then Emily pulls out a "personal massager" and keeps saying that.... and then asks Ed why he knows how to use it more than she does... oh dear lord this video is killing me LOL - I am pretty sure Emily just made an OnlyFans video for snakes LOL
One of my Cornies has some spinal damage due to an infection, he healed a little crooked and he doesn't have full muscle control in that part so sometimes poop builds up there. It doesn't happen all the time but this is good to know for the future.
This is so cool! I've fostered a lot of orphaned neo-natal kittens, so I'm very familiar with poop massages. I'm excited to see further research on massage therapy for snakes & other reptiles.
it just goes to show that even "naughty" items can have non-naughty uses. As an AroAce I could see me investing in one of those things to get the sore spot on my shoulder that I can never seem to reach with the back scratcher. That said the massage mattress I invested in recently is amazing.
A tennis ball is a good massage tool. If you put it in a long sock (as a handle), you can use it like a mini muscle roller, either against a wall or on the floor.
@@StonedtotheBones13 they always had the particular purpose, but they can be used for regular massages. The massage was like $150 bucks, has shoulder, back lower back and feet sections, and can be heated, with a bunch of modes. It's nice.
My little girls corn snake has a blockage. We took him to the vet and was told to give him a warm bath 2x a day to force him to move around to (hopefully) break up the blockage. We decided to add vibration therapy too, because of this video. In the 10 days since starting his therapy, he's pooped 6 times. His lump isn't gone yet, but he looks so much better. I'm not sure we should try to feed him yet. It's only been 2 weeks since he's eaten, so he's not starving. I just don't want to add to his problem. I'm grateful my little girl watches this channel. Thank you Emily and Ed, for posting this video. ❤️ I truly believe vibration therapy is helping little Sunset the corn snake.
I watched this over and over again. I actually play music (classical) for our snake. We'll see how that goes, but already, he seems to be more relaxed. He's a Ball Python that I rescued from a pet store. Still had some shed on him. So no one would buy him. He just needed more humidity and heat, so I decided to bring him home. He's probably about 4-5 months old. BTW, the pet store disposed of his shed (intact), but he's just about rid of all of it. Your video makes so much sense......thanks!
Our vet suggested this for our bearded dragon resuce who we were afraid needed surgery. It worked he passed a lot of sand which he was kept on before we got him!

Thank you so much for posting this. We have a baby dumerils boa that we got in December that we have been struggling with. She refuses to eat, but she was super distended. The first time we found out she was impacted and full of gas. After soaking and massages we got it all out. She ended up swollen and super distended again and the vet determined that she was earing her substrate and she was full from her lungs to her cloaca. After multiple scans and testing, our vet believes she has pica and a partially paralyzed GI tract. We've been able to get most of it out of her, but there is still a bulge next to her cloaca where the remainder is. We will try this asap and see if it helps her. She is no longer kept on a loose substrate to prevent the pica issues. We are hoping that the partial paralyzation is from the stretching of her GI tract since she would stuff herself so full. Your timing with this video is so perfect for us and will hopefully help us with our girl, Bellatrix. Thank you .
@@nene00760075 my guess is the bedding smells like food and they start associating the bedding with eating… almost like scenting rodents. And given how often snakes try to eat their water dishes… XD
@Jennifer Gerry I don't know, the bedding was pretty well new and she has never eaten anything since we got her. We tried feeding her out of her enclosure, then inside her enclosure with the rodent on a rock. But she wouldn't even seem interested. However. She was always full. Which we found out is substrate.
@Whitney Gore That is the part tat my vet is at a loss about. He hasn't experienced it either so he is researching it and reaching out to colleagues to see if there is some form of treatment to try for her. He's experienced both in mammals, but never in a reptile.
When my guinea pigs had similar issues, lightly drumming on/tapping on their bellies helped tremendously, so vibration definitely helps! Cool to see that it applies to reptiles as well!
„Personal Massager“ - and then I looked at her hand and could hold it anymore 🤣🤣🤣 I‘m sorry! But it‘s nice to see you are staying on top of your game with reptile care! Some day I‘m gonna get a cute snake! :)
When you think about it it's equally hilarious and fascinating. It's great that the students could lern from it. Sometimes the unconventional solution is the most effective.
Vibrations are stimulating in all sorts of ways for all sorts of creatures! It's fascinating to see it put to use like this! (ie, being soothed from a cat's purr, massages for stiff muscles, even some kneading behaviors could be similar!)
It makes me wonder if his digestive track is swollen in that part, from it just sitting there, and that's why it doesn't look like it's moving. I've had colitis, which is basically the same thing, and it makes things more difficult.
We just used this vid as inspiration to help a very difficult constipated 2 week old orphaned foster kitten. It works! This poor little guy sat abandoned for two days while someone was waiting to see if the mama would come back for him. She didn’t, so they took him in and warmed him up and started feeding him every time he cried but didn’t know how to potty a kitten so he was so swollen when I got him and relieved him. But now his poor insides are recovering and he doesn’t want to go without too much rough stimulation. Holding it on his belly while gently rubbing him made it so much easier. The vet thought he might not make it initially but the little dude is getting stronger and louder every day. One - two more weeks to find out it he can learn to eliminate on his own successfully!✨
It is expensive but there is something called eaze off and it works wonderful to remove adhesive tape. We use it for catheters in the vet clinic i work at

@@RegrettablyLongwinded wait, they named a snake foreskin? Haha when?
Watching you tape a vibe to a snake has got to be my favorite thing this year
Do I have a snek yet? No. Will I continue loving your channel? YES!
I wish this came out a couple years ago... This same thing happened to one of my corn snakes. I was told to give him warm soaks everyday. Didn't end up working in the end and the snake passed after about six months unfortunately. Glad this worked for you!
Things I never thought I'd see on Snake Discovery 😂
And a brilliant outcome!
I’ve never been so happy to hear a snake pooped! Good job, Christopher, you pass that poop.
The fact that I have the exact same vibrator killed me 🤣
Same lol at least we know incase of emergency we can use it on snakes
💀 same
😂😂
Works better than an actual moid
Sameee
the way the abdomen of animals (including us) can just be heated, shaken, or massaged in certain ways and that makes us pass poo is pretty funny, like damn, it really is that simple sometimes, like emptying a yogurt tube
you call it 'vibration therapy' i call it a fun friday night
A creative solution to a perplexing problem X'D I hope your Hognose clears whatever it is fully and is back to normal soon!
Awe thanks for the shout out! I'm always happy to help and grateful the food dosen't go to waste! Glad Christopher is feeling better 😊
Excited to see how the therapy works out!
The fact they kept this family friendly is immaculate
What a neat thing to learn. I'm so impressed with you trying new things to help your reptiles. And Ed? Yes, it will work on humans too.
As someone with IBS who knows that regular massage, jumping jacks, and literally grabbing and shaking your abdominal area help constipation, I'd say you're right!
@@Mew2Man 40+ years as a nurse. 😉
This is amazing, Emily! Imagine the difference this could make for impacted reptiles. Much safer than pharmaceutical treatments, I imagine.
Wait- NO-
One of my Cornies has some spinal damage due to an infection, he healed a little crooked and he doesn't have full muscle control in that part so sometimes poop builds up there. It doesn't happen all the time but this is good to know for the future.
If you’d like to, give us updates! I hope it’s successful
Thank you guys for posting, it makes me excited when I'm able to see your adorable snakes!
This is so cool! I've fostered a lot of orphaned neo-natal kittens, so I'm very familiar with poop massages. I'm excited to see further research on massage therapy for snakes & other reptiles.
Just a quick question - Do you still have your aquarium at the house? If so, I would love to see an update! Great content as usual 👍!
Which aquarium? I think they had a couple... Two with turtles and didn't they have one in there living room?
@@Nanners_Art maybe they mean the fish tank
@@Nanners_Art yeah- the turtles are in the zoo, and I think they have a 75 gallon
it just goes to show that even "naughty" items can have non-naughty uses.
@@alexismontez4230 yup, I used this in physical therapy and it got rid of knots like magic!
P sure the original selling point of hitachis was for massage. Very powerful massage. A massage mattress sounds sweet btw
@@StonedtotheBones13 they always had the particular purpose, but they can be used for regular massages.
The massage was like $150 bucks, has shoulder, back lower back and feet sections, and can be heated, with a bunch of modes. It's nice.
@@philippak7726 that is v nice, esp for 150
"Ed anwsered the questions like he was defusing a bomb" 🤣🤣
You guys are the reason I was able to get over my fear of snakes to wants to own one. Hoping to get one this year or next year 🥰
Theyre the reason i got over my fear of vibrators and now i own one 🤭
I love your videos
I’m so happy to be a heckin super fan thank you for the shout out you’re really nice and tell Rex I said hi!
Woah that's amazing! You always learn something new with Snake Discovery! That's why we love y'all so much
"Personal massager."
Nice save there Emily.
Our vet suggested this for our bearded dragon resuce who we were afraid needed surgery. It worked he passed a lot of sand which he was kept on before we got him!
Ah yes.. that is indeed a "personal massager".
That’s pretty cool! If you do this again, I think you should definitely get your vet to publish a case study!
Hi I’ve been a fan for over 3 yrs and you guys are and still are amazing
Same
thats really cool that Ed was nice enough to part with his fav toy. hes a good dude! 😉😂
all jokes aside thats a great idea tbh. it actually makes total sense
also thanks for compiling the whole experiment into one vid so we can see the solution and the results. really appreciate it. awesome vid!
And who said vibrators aren't multipurposal!
This totally works on humans! Maybe not for everyone, but my friend swears by it. We both have IBS and you can definitely help move things along this way.
Another round of *Gravid or Fat* 🤣 my favorite series
This could help so many rescue animals with impaction problems. So thankful it helped Christopher
Ok I know some younger people watch this channel but "personal massager" had me cracking up lol
I've actually used a vibrating back massager on my stomach to help relieve bloating before! It really works!
My doc's assistant once played "Gravid or fat" with me when scheduling shots for pregnant women. Nope, just like with miss tricolor here, I'm just a food lover lol
Thank you .
I didn't realize reptiles could get pica. That's fascinating, and slightly terrible.
@@richardpowers7231 Got any updates on your noodle? How has the therapy worked for her?
What about combining the vibration therapy with a warm bath? Could help moving things along a little quicker lol.
Definitely!
hopefully the vibrator is waterproof (probably is considering what it is usually used for)
When my guinea pigs had similar issues, lightly drumming on/tapping on their bellies helped tremendously, so vibration definitely helps! Cool to see that it applies to reptiles as well!
„Personal Massager“ - and then I looked at her hand and could hold it anymore 🤣🤣🤣
I‘m sorry! But it‘s nice to see you are staying on top of your game with reptile care! Some day I‘m gonna get a cute snake! :)
When you think about it it's equally hilarious and fascinating.
It's great that the students could lern from it. Sometimes the unconventional solution is the most effective.
Put an update after it digests the last meal you gave him, it's interesting to see if it will go through.
Yeah I hope he's able to digest and pass that meal okay
I love you
He successfully bred this year, so he's doing great if you hadn't caught that.
I admire your restraing in not making terrible (and not kid-friendly) jokes.
Vibrations are stimulating in all sorts of ways for all sorts of creatures! It's fascinating to see it put to use like this! (ie, being soothed from a cat's purr, massages for stiff muscles, even some kneading behaviors could be similar!)
Rumbly kitties are the best thing in the world.
@@catpoke9557 I’ve never heard anyone call purrs “rumbles” and that melts my heart, I’m never calling them anything but kitty rumbles ever again 😭😭😭
When I saw the title I was like “Wait which channel is this?!” Emily was so awkward, this was adorable lol
PLEASE WE NEED A DEFORMED SNAPPING TURTLE UPDATE
We really do
It makes me wonder if his digestive track is swollen in that part, from it just sitting there, and that's why it doesn't look like it's moving. I've had colitis, which is basically the same thing, and it makes things more difficult.
How on Earth does one casually tape a vibrator to a snake and keep a straight face lmao
This is so interesting! Thank you for sharing this.
Omg animal jam pfp

As a Patreon, if this is what my money goes towards, I’m all for it😂
It is expensive but there is something called eaze off and it works wonderful to remove adhesive tape. We use it for catheters in the vet clinic i work at
I read the title and was shocked for a second
So glad the snake's condition is improving.
I can’t believe it took me so long to stumble upon your channel. So happy I finally did.
Hi Emily and Ed I love your videos and your channel keep up the great work.
I read the thumbnail before I read the actual title of the video and was VERY confused.🤣 Interesting to see these things have more than one use!
Thank you guys for making these videos this is very interesting!
What a great learning opportunity for the vet students to follow Christophers vibration therapy!
She said why do you know how to use this more than I do?! Lol
the award for the most unconventional use of a vibra- sorry, 'personal massagers' goes to Emily and Ed!!
