There’s never been any evidence presented for the “baby snakes can’t control their venom” myth. The bigger the snake, the larger the venom yield, the worse the bite.
Baby snakes do actually give out more venom! When they are small like that they just want the danger to go away as quick as possible so they inject as much venom as they can. Older snakes aren’t as scared and learn to control the amount of venom they inject.

I recently saw a venomous snake "educator" saying that his snake was, "dislocating its jaw to eat its prey." As an "educator" it really bothered me that he was giving incorrect information. I often feel snake owners care more about gloating that they know the difference between "poisonous" and "venomous" than making sure their snakes dont get into the neighbors apartment. I often feel that with snakes it is like with pitbulls. They are not necessarily bad animals to keep as pets, but poor pet owners seem attracted to them.

Everybody knows what venom and poison is so it sounds weird to hear somebody mislabeled something they should know. Obviously snake owners are worried about their snakes whereabouts, it's just so uncommon for a snake to escape a house. Unless it's warmer in your neighbors house than it is outside or in your house they wont leave their more comfortable zone which is inside. Most will just chill in the tank if you leave the door open. If a bad snake owner ever occurs that snake is not going to be a "bad" or aggressive snake, itll be malnutritioned. Snakes are not even close to being as smart as a pitbull and arent capable of feeling mental trauma or mental conditioning like a dog. It's because they're not poisonous, period, and the two words have very different and important meanings. If poisonous and venomous could be used interchangeably with snakes, nobody would know that you mean the snake is LITERALLY POISON so don't eat it.
Really enjoy the reptile myths segment! The most common ones I can think of are related to identification. I used to use the whole "red to yellow, kill a fellow, red to black, venom lack" rhyme, but my understanding is that it does not work outside of the United States with some snakes in Central and South America. The other I hear often is people identifying any snake that can spread its neck out wider as a "cobra".
For me, the rhyme was always, "Red touches yellow, you're a dead fellow; Red touches black, you're okay Jack." Didn't know it was regionally limited to the US, though.

Always interesting! One of my (brighter) snakes seems to respond to the word "No." I did an experiment where i would tell her "No," and turn her the other direction whenever she started to go under something. After a few days, I only had to say "No" and she would stop and go the other direction. I have often wondered if the scale covering their ear functions, more or less, as a tympanic membrane.
Have you tried a chiropractor? If you have a trusted one in your area? I had some tmj issues after a dental surgery to remove a wisdom tooth and by going to the chiropractor regained full range of motion. I'm going to be honest chiropractors can be expensive with and without insurance and the tmj treatments are very painful but I found them worth it. My jaw had been offset to the point my lips were crooked, it hurt to bite down/yawn, I couldn't fully open my mouth, and I was getting headaches from the muscle tension. I had to go to four sessions but now my lips line up, I can bite down and yawn, fully open my mouth and the tension headaches are gone.
@@maliciousmayhem i've been to a chiropractor for some other issues, but they did help with my jaw pain as well (my main concern at the time was my dodgy shoulders). hoping to go again when i have some more money. chiros get a lot of bad rep (understandably) but in my experience they're the only people who've actually taken me seriously and given me proper help

This is mostly false, if a Snake is kept in a small enclosure it may grow deformed because of the lack of room to develop all of the body completely but the snake itself will not stop growing because of the size of its enclosure.
Wait that myth exist in the snake hobby. I hear it for fish but I have never heard it for snakes. By the way fishes bodies will stop growing in a smaller tank, but the organs will not. So they will pop from the inside out.
My fascination with snakes started when I was a little kid because I was afraid of snakes like anyone else, and I almost stepped on a sleeping one. The poor thing tried to get away so fast and everyone else thought it was aggressive- they were on higher ground and the poor thing probably didn’t even know they were there yet they screamed that it was chasing them. When I was a kid (A long time ago) when I was living in Washington state, my fam and I were out camping and my dog decided to wander off, so I went to go look for him, I walked by this big rock and a snake was laying on it, I didn't get within 10 feet of it and it started to chase me, so I ran towards the camp, turned out to be a baby rattlesnake, I won't say what my dad had to do to get it to stop chasing me, because I'm an animal lover and I know your viewers are as well. But that was the only time I ever had a reptile chase me. Love the channel, my son and I watch whenever he is home! Love all your animals!
Here in Texas you keep hearing that rattlesnakes are adapting/evolving not to have a rattle 🙄 (presumably to have a more silent and therefore deadlier approach or some such silliness)
Their rattle is meant to intimidate creatures and basically say “Hey. If you come near me I will become a crazy noodle and bite you.” So evolving out of that would make them easy prey for bigger predators. It doesn’t really make sense for them to evolve out of their intimidation.
Ive heard this too...something about human having hunted them to a point some groups are evolving no rattle so as not to draw our attention...or some such

Well, even you drink venom you won't kill yourself coz...Venom consist of high protein...so your stomach would digest it like any other food......unless you have cuts inside your stomach the venom will kill you and that's coz the venom would enter your blood.......

I'm pretty sure it's true that all snakes can swim (or at least have the innate ability, kinda like how babies have the basic instinct), but being able to swim from one side of the pond to another is different than swimming across an ocean. So I think that's like... a HALF myth.

Had a friend who went to Namibia once and was told to run up the nearest steep incline if you accidentally walk up to a rhino and spook it, as apparently they dont like uneven ground. I just wanted to leave a comment about the “Are snakes deaf?” question. Emily is right that snakes have some hearing, but it’s very limited. The answer to this question is both yes and no. Some species of snake can hear better than others, generally, though, snakes can hear between 50 and 1,000 Hertz. People can hear between 20 and 20,000 Hertz. So if snakes were people, they would most likely identify as deaf. They can’t hear human voices, etc.
Standard procedure for snake bites is to use a pressure bandage to block the lymphatic system. For example if Bitten on the arm start from the beginning of the extremely, leaving finger tips exposed wrap Bandage all the way up to the underarm and apply a splint if possible to keep it immobile. Do not wash the site of the bite place an x on the bandage at the location of the bite. Maybe that’s where the cut an x bull crap came from regarding sucking the venom out but that isn’t the reason. (will get to why that is shortly) As an Australian I highly recommend you do not leave the worlds most venomous land snakes bites unwrapped if you can help it, these bandages really do work and they do save lives. The information about not using the tornaqet is correct as you don’t want to starve your limbs of blood flow and risk amputations. Also sucking venom is indeed useless to reiterate that point also being true. As I stated earlier you are trying to block the lymphatic system not the blood stream this is because venom is going to be traveling through that system. Now I mentioned an x earlier and not washing the bite site, the x is so paramedics can cut a small hole into the bandage and test any residual venom. This allows them to get a positive id on the species that bit you, yes there are universal anti venoms but it isn’t always used. The reason you want them to know the location of the bite is so they can treat you without removing the bandage, if you suddenly have your lymphatic system unblocked all That invenomation you have been slowing down will rush into your system and could very well kill you. Other then that try and stay calm and immobile if possible and call an ambulance. My source for all this during my study at university zoology to be precise I opted to rescue and relocate snakes from peoples homes professionally, many of these snakes were eastern brown snakes (the second most venomous land snake on earth) and sometimes “king browns” or mulga snake technically in the black snake family ( a very large defensive species that is quick to bite and will inject large amounts of venom). So yeah because of this I most defenantly made sure I knew correct first aid for a snake bite. Side note Incase anyone was wondering what the most venomous land snake is as I mentioned the second, it’s the fierce snake (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) also native to Australia lol. But yeah any venomous snake should be treated with respect.
I love this series. Would also love one with unusual snake facts- like some species of vipers will go over a year without pooping and we don’t exactly know why and Burmese pythons can regrow internal organs.

It's actually kinda fascinating that snakes adapted and evolved to use poison to thier advantage. A toad meal and a defence mechanism, very useful!
What's funny is poison dart frogs do the same thing. They get their venom from beetles they eat I believe

Really enjoy the reptile myths segment! The most common ones I can think of are related to identification.
I used to use the whole "red to yellow, kill a fellow, red to black, venom lack" rhyme, but my understanding is that it does not work outside of the United States with some snakes in Central and South America.
The other I hear often is people identifying any snake that can spread its neck out wider as a "cobra".
For me, the rhyme was always, "Red touches yellow, you're a dead fellow; Red touches black, you're okay Jack." Didn't know it was regionally limited to the US, though.

One of my (brighter) snakes seems to respond to the word "No." I did an experiment where i would tell her "No," and turn her the other direction whenever she started to go under something. After a few days, I only had to say "No" and she would stop and go the other direction. I have often wondered if the scale covering their ear functions, more or less, as a tympanic membrane.

Have you tried a chiropractor? If you have a trusted one in your area? I had some tmj issues after a dental surgery to remove a wisdom tooth and by going to the chiropractor regained full range of motion. I'm going to be honest chiropractors can be expensive with and without insurance and the tmj treatments are very painful but I found them worth it. My jaw had been offset to the point my lips were crooked, it hurt to bite down/yawn,
I couldn't fully open my mouth, and I was getting headaches from the muscle tension. I had to go to four sessions but now my lips line up, I can bite down and yawn, fully open my mouth and the tension headaches are gone.
@@maliciousmayhem i've been to a chiropractor for some other issues, but they did help with my jaw pain as well (my main concern at the time was my dodgy shoulders). hoping to go again when i have some more money. chiros get a lot of bad rep (understandably) but in my experience they're the only people who've actually taken me seriously and given me proper help

This is mostly false, if a Snake is kept in a small enclosure it may grow deformed because of the lack of room to develop all of the body completely but the snake itself will not stop growing because of the size of its enclosure.

My fascination with snakes started when I was a little kid because I was afraid of snakes like anyone else, and I almost stepped on a sleeping one. The poor thing tried to get away so fast and everyone else thought it was aggressive- they were on higher ground and the poor thing probably didn’t even know they were there yet they screamed that it was chasing them. When I was a kid (A long time ago) when I was living in Washington state, my fam and I were out camping and my dog decided to wander off, so I went to go look for him, I walked by this big rock and a snake was laying on it, I didn't get within 10 feet of it and it started to chase me, so I ran towards the camp, turned out to be a baby rattlesnake, I won't say what my dad had to do to get it to stop chasing me, because I'm an animal lover and I know your viewers are as well. But that was the only time I ever had a reptile chase me. Love the channel, my son and I watch whenever he is home! Love all your animals!
Here in Texas you keep hearing that rattlesnakes are adapting/evolving not to have a rattle 🙄
(presumably to have a more silent and therefore deadlier approach or some such silliness)
Their rattle is meant to intimidate creatures and basically say “Hey. If you come near me I will become a crazy noodle and bite you.” So evolving out of that would make them easy prey for bigger predators. It doesn’t really make sense for them to evolve out of their intimidation.
Ive heard this too...something about human having hunted them to a point some groups are evolving no rattle so as not to draw our attention...or some such

I'm pretty sure it's true that all snakes can swim (or at least have the innate ability, kinda like how babies have the basic instinct), but being able to swim from one side of the pond to another is different than swimming across an ocean. So I think that's like... a HALF myth.

I just wanted to leave a comment about the “Are snakes deaf?” question. Emily is right that snakes have some hearing, but it’s very limited. The answer to this question is both yes and no. Some species of snake can hear better than others, generally, though, snakes can hear between 50 and 1,000 Hertz. People can hear between 20 and 20,000 Hertz. So if snakes were people, they would most likely identify as deaf. They can’t hear human voices, etc.
Standard procedure for snake bites is to use a pressure bandage to block the lymphatic system. For example if Bitten on the arm start from the beginning of the extremely, leaving finger tips exposed wrap
Bandage all the way up to the underarm and apply a splint if possible to keep it immobile. Do not wash the site of the bite place an x on the bandage at the location of the bite. Maybe that’s where the cut an x bull crap came from regarding sucking the venom out but that isn’t the reason. (will get to why that is shortly) As an Australian I highly recommend you do not leave the worlds most venomous land snakes bites unwrapped if you can help it, these bandages really do work and they do save lives.
The information about not using the tornaqet is correct as you don’t want to starve your limbs of blood flow and risk amputations. Also sucking venom is indeed useless to reiterate that point also being true. As I stated earlier you are trying to block the lymphatic system not the blood stream this is because venom is going to be traveling through that system.
Now I mentioned an x earlier and not washing the bite site, the x is so paramedics can cut a small hole into the bandage and test any residual venom. This allows them to get a positive id on the species that bit you, yes there are universal anti venoms but it isn’t always used.
The reason you want them to know the location of the bite is so they can treat you without removing the bandage, if you suddenly have your lymphatic system unblocked all
That invenomation you have been slowing down will rush into your system and could very well kill you. Other then that try and stay calm and immobile if possible and call an ambulance.
My source for all this during my study at university zoology to be precise I opted to rescue and relocate snakes from peoples homes professionally, many of these snakes were eastern brown snakes (the second most venomous land snake on earth) and sometimes “king browns” or mulga snake technically in the black snake family ( a very large defensive species that is quick to bite and will inject large amounts of venom). So yeah because of this I most defenantly made sure I knew correct first aid for a snake bite.
Side note Incase anyone was wondering what the most venomous land snake is as I mentioned the second, it’s the fierce snake (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) also native to Australia lol. But yeah any venomous snake should be treated with respect.
