Thanks, man. My driver side switch stopped working. Looking at videos for troubleshooting and stumbled across yours. I found 5 cracked solder joints. Reflowed them all and now everything works like a dream. Even the passenger side works too.
Rudy, thanks for saving me $72.50! I used a large pliers and pulled straight out on the caps- worked great, same solder connection broken. '03 ram 2500
Thanks Rudy! After installing a new passenger side window switch with no change... I tried your fix and.... SUCCESS!!!! I cleaned all contacts with a Q-Tip soaked in alcohol also. Removing the mirror switches is not recommended, like someone else said.
Thanks so much for posting this. Fixed mine right up, used trim pliers to pop of caps, didn't break any. I made the mistake of pulling off the mirror buttons also, which can be left on to get the top cover off to expose the solder joints.
Thanks buddy, for the video and information. I chose to just buy a new aftermarket master window switch but you still helped me to understand what was my issue. Same symptoms. Now solved.
Thank you for this video, saved me alot of money. I have an 03 dodge ram 1500 quad cab that had the same problem. I took it a step further and soldered all the points instead of just those 2. Oh yeah no joke on the buttons being brittle, I used a hook-pick and a small flat head. Thanks again.
Great Fix!..Easy to remove panel and disassemble switch case. Most difficult thing was removing the buttons. After re-solder, everything works like new...THANKS!
If you want to remove the switch caps without damage carefully heat them up with a heat gun or hair dryer stay about 8 to 12 inches away from the top of switch. Now use both hands to remove it with TWO flat screwdrivers or trim removal tools ( on either side of switch cap ) from both sides of switch. If you try to pry with only one tool the pressure wont be balanced & it will break. Only do one cap at a time.
It's called a "cold solder joint." It's from the factory that way that the solder joints were not done properly with enough solder. There is one more video on youtube and that guy said his was because of the "pen like spring" inside that master switch and all he did was take it apart and stretch the spring and put it back in and it worked. So, his wasn't the cold solder joints. Weird. Great video though. Thanks. Need more information on how to take those toggle switch covers off before I attempt to take mine of. I'll try the heat gun and to tools to pry them off.
Hi Rudy. I have a similar issue. I can operate all windows from drivers control panel. BUT none of the passengers can. The doors will not lock/unlock from the driver control or from passenger switch. Tthe key fob does not lock/unlock doors either. Ya have the locking issue too OR was it just the windows?
I did not have that issue, only windows. If the whole switch is failing, you can find them at Amazon for as little as $19 now. They were a lot more when I needed it. You should also check the fuses before spending $. Some have main fuses in engine compartment and another by driver's foot well area. Also check the relays, they can burn out too. Hope that helps.
If after you try this and the rear windows still won't roll down then you have broken wires in the harness when you open the rear doors. I had to split the rrubber boot and repair 4 broken wires. Now my windows work again.
I did mine yesterday and using a heat gun did much little. I didn't break any but they were still really tough to get off as I found inside those switch covers are 2 little nubs that grab onto the tops of the toggle switches. Wasn't sure about the mirror adjusting switch if I broke it when I pulled it from the switch. If I had to do it again I would just cut or melt or grind a hole in front of that main switch and resolder the 2 joints from there. Too risky to pull that all apart and not mess things up. They designed that as a one time put together unit and then throw it away. typical Chrysler/Dodge product.
I pried them off with a wide tip flat head screwdriver. Pry one side then the other until they pop off. Be careful, this old plastic is brittle and will break sometimes.
+DezzNutzz if you have a panel pulling tool, looks like a fork kind of...but with 2 tines, and a slot between the 2 tines about 4" long... that makes removing those switch "caps" 1,000 times easier.
+DezzNutzz I would suggest heating them up with a hair dryer or heat gun ( careful ) so they are soft & flexible before prying them out, could try sliding an exacto to release the inner clip.

Excellent video for including the soldering. You showed me how to fix my truck. All the window controls work now.

Thank you had the same problem great video!
when you clean the carbon off, put a nice dab of dielectric grease on the contacts.
Thanks man! Very helpful
Thank you! great job.
Nice fix! Kudos

good video, gracias
How did you remove the caps of the window buttons?
I pried them off with a wide tip flat head screwdriver. Pry one side then the other until they pop off. Be careful, this old plastic is brittle and will break sometimes.
Rudy Miranda thanks.
