Actually quite like studio version, lot of instrumentation, and on the studio version the voice is so emotional, try it 😉

You should defo react to Elton John and Olly Alexander from the band 'Years & Years' performing a cover of Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin at the 2021 Brit awards!!! (They sang it because it was used as the basis for a brilliant british tv drama last year called 'It's a Sin', based in the 1980s when AIDS first came into public knowledge)

Just to give you an FYI most of Elton John songs are written by his music partner Bernie Taupin. The original 60 years on was off what is considered his first album Elton John in 1970. Bernie was only about 20 years old when he wrote it.

The original studio version is similar to this, so the other version you should hear is from Elton's first Live album, "11-17-70". This show made Elton into an instant legend. This was mainly because he toured with only piano, bass and drums. No guitar, no synths, no orchestra. Nigel Olsson and the late Dee Murray played like madmen and sang their amazing harmonies. And with only three instruments, the lads were more powerful than any studio production magic could match.

    *jumping up & down, squealing*
    Thank you Dereck!!
This was a beautiful reaction to a beautiful man. I get goosebumps in watching your face and emotions when watching something so spectacular like this. I love when you react to songs like these -- with you're being a lover of music like myself. It is exciting to see. Thank you again, my friend.
It took me a bit by surprise at first that Elton did not initially play the piano, even when he did, this song was not so much about his piano talents, rather the song itself -- making this song that much more unique. In the 1970 rendition, the beginning is played by natural harp. It amazes me just how gorgeous Elton's voice enriches the older he becomes. You will enjoy the '70 version.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this.
    Have a beautiful day! 💟
p.s. ~ I've seem Elton in concert 3 times now ~ and each concert was just as riveting as this. You don't dare leave your place for any reason!!

The best live version, imo, is on 17-11-70, his live album from 1970, which features the original Elton John trio.

Yes! You are completely correct. What an astounding Live album. I believe that it was later expanded into a full CD, with many more songs added from the show.

I recommand you to check out his live in Sydney with a symphony orchestra (1987). This concert was the last of a 27 shows serial that made his voice raspy as hell. The playlist is a what Elton did best. Masterpiece.

Back in the '80's Elton did a tour of the world. I was told on this occasion he took with him a 100piece orchestra. However, his shows in Australia were recorded for perpetuity with the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra, and quite literally were amazing. Half of the show were songs performed with just the orchestra and the other half with both the orchestra and his normal band. The opening sequence you thought he was playing is typically opened by a harp! Watch it here:

    IT IS TRUELY BEAUTIFUL!!!

    • @robdaviesprogm
      @robdaviesprogm 2 года назад

Mostly true. While he was on a world tour in 1985-86, he only took the orchestra with him for the Australia and New Zealand shows. It would have been far too expensive to fly an entire orchestra all over the world, and I doubt the orchestra would have agreed to that kind of commitment, since it would have meant being away from home for so long, and not being able to perform classical concerts at their home venue. Also, some members of the orchestra were hesitant to perform with him because they didn't like rock & roll. They were virtually all won over by the first show, however.

Awww, Elton John! 👍 Such a sensational artist. He is a living legend! But there isn’t much views for this reactions video. :( Where are all the Elton John fans? I can’t believe there is so few of English speaking viewers on Dereck’s channel.

  • @robdaviesprogm

The "orchestra" and "choir" were all done on keyboards for this show, save for the one cellist you see there. The original 1970 recording had live strings, however.

Not even 1000 views ? Oh come on you french guys.

this is not bad at all he was a bit sick at this concert but the instrumental is actually much better than studio and his rich old voice works but he obviously sang it better in years like 1988/1989
