Omg omg omg it’s me! This was my request! Mate thanks sooo much you’ve got me grinning from ear to ear! I just love this song so much and just wanted to share it with “y’all” (that’s my American for the day!) love ya! Thanks again!
Lmaooo loved this request lol
I had this whole album on cassette (I'm aging myself..LOL) I'm a big Elton John fan!
Elton was a child prodigy on piano. He writes the music & his lyricist is usually Bernie Taupin. He can sing almost anything but his capacity to read lyrics & then compose the score is phenomenal
And this is well after his peak. His voice was amazing in the 70s and 80s and even into the 90s. He has dropped down in tone in his later years but still great. As you can see he is also an amazing pianist.
This is part of a BBC production an hour and four minutes of beautiful music. Elton, his band, and the choir and an 80 piece orchestra made up of students of the Royal academy of Music in London. It was a benefit for scholarships. Elton was a student there. The whole show is sublime. If you dont take the time to listen to all of it, at least listen to "Philadelphia Freedom", you will not be disappointed.
Saw Elton and Billy Joel in concert years ago. 50000 people singing along to Piano Man was awesome. They had the coolest merch t-shirt, I wore it to death.
saw that concert when I was 15, still the best concert i've ever been too. I saw it at Ohio State stadium. and yes, 80k people carrying the chorus to Piano Man was one of the best parts.
Looooove Elton❤
I have been lucky enough to see him live multiple times and have asked the same question whilst amongst the crowd.......why aren't you people moving!
You've only scratched the surface of Sir Elton John. Another one of his favorite albums is Capitan Fantastic. Check out Someone Saved my life Tohight.
His early stuff, he has one of the best voices ever
Sir Elton John. You should hear his tribute to Marilyn Monroe: "Candle in the Wind" and then how he altered the lyrics for Princess Diana when he played the song at her funeral at Westminster Abbey.
Sir Elton John is an amazingly talented guy. His piano skills are outstanding and his musical compositions are stunning. “Someone Saved My Life” is another great song. 🌺✌️
Elton has definitely gotten his flowers and deservedly so
Yeah, he spends six figures a year on flowers alone! Of course, I figure he's earned it, since he also gives *loads* of money to multiple charities.
my husband surprised me with tickets to his final tour. My first concert was Elton when I was 13, and i've seen him a total of 6 times so far. My all-time favorite artist, and definitely one of the best piano players and composers out there. Your Song is still my favorite, but lately, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me has creeped up next to it.
You should checkout Elton John with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO).
I could do deep dives into his catalogue forever. I was born in 1970, but didn't get serious about music untl I was13 or so...and I only knew what was on the radio at the time...man did I discover some of the greatest songs and music ever created by Elton and Bernie. Check out "tonight" and "The Greatest Discovery"
I loved this! I’d never heard it before, thanks for another great reaction
Wonderful reaction, thank you!
This is great, I suggest giving the studio version a listen too
Live, with a huge orchestra and choir of voices and a rock band. Key changes, breakdowns, and no room for error. How many other artists could pull off this kind of a performance? Yeah he's a pretty good singer. Good enough for the Queen to give him a Knighthood! That's when you get the title SIR Elton John. You know like that other British legend what's his name? Oh, yeah SIR Paul MacCartney. Pretty exclusive company IMHO!
Elton always coming through with the vocals
When you did the early Journey albums with Greg Rolie and Steve Perry I really enjoyed seeing your light and joy shine. This is the early Elton jams I love. Keep going down the rabbit hole. Its all good!
He is one of the best male vocalists and underrated. He uses his voice well - regardless though his range isn't massive. He is very good!
singing isnt about vocal range you're right about that his voice has depth and a certain feel to it that cannot be replicated especially his 90s/2000s voice his 70s voice everyone else can imitate but the 90s/2000s voice has a certain timbre which cannot be matched by any other vocalist
This song totally ROCKS!!!
My favorite song from him. This and Mona Lisa and madhatters
Live 11-17-70 (live Album) has an extended jam session of this where he just about burns the place down with the sizzling piano bass and drum jams on this. His voice was much better years ago also.
Sold out big big house is his flowers
If you haven't heard them, I'd highly recommend Levon from Elton John, and Border Song, two of my favorites. My absolute favorite is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road but you've probably heard that one!
Thanks so much for doing this! It's a great performance of a great song!
While "Burn Down the Mission" was never a single (there were no singles taken off the Tumbleweed Connection album, despite the fact that it's widely regarded as one of Elton's best albums), it's a long-standing live staple.
There are a couple of other notable live versions of this song. One is from his 11-17-70 live album, which features a more than 18-minute performance of it with just bassist Dee Murray and drummer Nigel Olsson (who was also the drummer on the version you reacted to here). The 11-17-70 version of it included portions of Elvis Presley's "My Baby Left Me" (a relatively obscure number that sounds similar to "That's All Right, Mama") and The Beatles' "Get Back".
Another notable live version is the December 1986 performance from the Live in Australia album. Elton had done a landmark tour with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the first time a symphony orchestra had ever gone on tour with a rock act. While Elton's voice sounded really hoarse during that show due to nodules on his vocal chords that would be removed by laser shortly afterwards, the concert was nothing short of epic.
I'm so glad you got to experience this incredible album cut!
I am so glad to see people reacting to Elton John more these days. I’m only 24, but I’ve been one of the biggest EJ fans for 12 years now and it’s so nice to see people reacting to this song, and in particular this version. The first thing most people say when they see an older Elton, “oh his voice sounds so different.” He still sings superbly well for what he’s done and how old he is and I’m so glad you are appreciating his voice despite how it sounded in the past. He still can sing his ass off, just lower and grittier and more soulful, and it works.
If you like this, you’ll also like this version he did of his song Levon on The Talk. You thought they burnt it down here…? Watch this: ruclips.net/video/Qiae9paO1aM/видео.html
The crowd was like frozen statues...lol and then they clap...Elton John is a performer. Awesome.❤🥰😁
Elton's song Empty Garden is a very good song. It's a song written following the assassination of John Lennon.
You have to hear the original, when he was younger to realize how great of a singer he was.
There's a BBC studio video from 1970 (just the trio) where he really HITS those high notes in the key changes! Check it out!
The performance, the music and the vocal delivery is much better in this version
he goes flat a bit on that version i dont like it
Phil Collins did a cover of this which is also quite good. Not live but still a great rendition.
You should check out his song "Blue Eyes" - older versions, not recent. Elton has incredible vocals, bit they've changed significantly over the years.
Very good, but the absolute BEST version of this song is from Elton's first live album, called "11-17-70", which was the date of the live recording.
In a radio studio in the U.S., with only about 100 people in attendance, the band consisted simply of Elton and his piano, Nigel Olsson on drums (Nigel was in this 2002 video you viewed and still tours and records with Elton in 2022), and the amazing, sadly deceased Dee Murray on bass-guitar. The two sidemen also provided backing vocal harmonies, and believe me: when you hear them, you will realize how superfluous this huge choir in 2002 was.
With only three instruments -- not even a guitar or a synth in sight -- these three young men not only "Burn Down the Mission", they burned down their audience. It is a must-listen, one of the greatest live Rock 'n Roll albums of all time. You will find it on RUclips. Let us know what you thought, afterward.
Was never released as a single. Its a fan favorite and one that he does in every concert. His voice was much better fifty years ago when he recorded this. He is extremely soulful now, but he can't hit high notes.
Yes, tell me who ordered it to do a reaction to 80 Elton john🤣
If you loved this please do a reaction video to the same song but his solo version live at Ephesus. He really shows off his insane skills as a pianist. You’ll be very impressed.
Fifty Seven top forty hits. 27 top tens I believe and 9 number ones.
You have to hear the original back in the 70s when his singing was perfect.
💕
I suggest you to react To Rocketman - Elton John live at Moscow 1979
Six Elton John songs is not a lot considering there are 100's
all of Elton's had a full scholarship at the Royal Academy when he was 11. Bernie Taupin wrote ALL the lyrics to ALL of Elton's Songs and dropped them off and was gone. no collaboration. Elton then wrote the melody to the songs....
Great song! There are better versions from his younger days though.
Great reaction!
This compared to dancing and lipsyncing.. .hmmmm
