Lovely model, looks great! I so wish Manchester Model Shop was still there. What an awesome place to visit. Everything catered for, they even had a parrot.
This video came out 2years ago , I would like to say thank you for posting the build , I have this kit and it’s a tremendous help showing how you built the kit. It makes it so much easier to see it being built and to look for any problems with the fitting of the parts, I subscribed to your channel, 👀 looking forward to seeing future builds!!
Unboxing a new model is always the best, looking at the sprues and getting the feeling of "I cannot wait to build this thing!" always gets me excited to build a kit
Those who know how to paint figures and make them realistic are almost Gods to me. Or at least very highly developed people from a Galaxy far far away. Bravo, great job so far.
have you read 'Night Fighter'...C F Rawnsley (Radar operator, Cannon reloader) to John Cunningham flying a night fighter version of the Beaufighter. Some great recollection whilst flying this aeroplane...Even by later standards this was a very heavy armed and fearsome weapon...
Have just finished this ... the missus thought it would be a good start for a returning modeller I just wish I had found this video whilst working on it.
Beautiful build. I learned some nice techniques from this video. I recently tried my hand on a Revell Spitfire that has so many flaws I'm embarrassed to show it online (it was fun though). I think I'm going to order a Tamiya version and try it again.
Awesome build and I had no idea you were doing the overall black version! Love how it turned out Greg, makes me want to build my Hasegawa 1/72nd kit which has an all black one on the box art. Nicely done 👍
Even TAMIYA’s old kits are fantastic, detail may not be on point but that’s to be expected from an older kit, but the fit.. my lord, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy building models so much. A good build where everything fits and comes together nicely just makes you excited about the build! A kit that doesn’t go together nicely makes me frustrated and I don’t have a good time building it, and that’s what got me out the hobby when I first got into it a couple years back, BAD kits. But now that I’m back in and I know manufacturers and stuff, I’m really enjoying it. TAMIYA kits are by far my favourite, they’re for the average hobbyist like myself. If you’re looking for a tank to build I highly suggest tamiyas 1/35 KV-1, it’s a brilliant kit and the detail is there, fantastic kit. Thanks for the video! It was amazing to see someone building a model out of the box like it’s suppose to be and not a bunch of excess parts!
Good result, looks an enjoyable and (hopefully) not too fiddly build, thank you. Well, just finished mine in the same scheme, not a patch on yours, but a few new techniques attempted and some succeeded, others 'have room for improvement'... No real vices to the kit, excellent that you can make some parts in modular form, ie, the engines and undercarriage. Fit is brilliant, the undercarriage just clicked into place securely, with no need for cement. Purchased the 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito last week as a comparison, although it's someway down the build list. Only downside was that this pushed the limits of my spray booth causing some inventive improvisation.
I built the Revell 1/32 kit of this airplane, and though not as detailed and great fitting as the Tamiya looks, it still was decent, and comes out looking nice. You did a nice job on this kit!
Lovely build Greg....always loved the Beaufighter, likening it as the slightly more pugnacious little brother to the Mosquito...and for a 24 + year old kit (it’s actually older than my stepson!) it’s simple but beautifully tooled.....excellent video.....looking forward to the T55 now!
I am very impressed with your skills. You did a wonderful job on the Beau. I think adding the two crew members was a good idea. Overall this model is a beauty.
11:44 I have a Matchbox Skyraider (unknown vintage) which I built about 2 years ago. Also has a press fit engine cowl, which is nice, lets me remove it to show the engine detail. Obviously, I didn't glue the prop in place! Enjoying your channel, you are to the point and no waffling on, as per another guy in the UK. Not to "dis" him, but he does tend to go on a bit...
Just started the Revell kit and have to say there are quite a few differences and 188 parts to it. Landing gear is more detailed but no aircrew. Good build so far and looking forward to the rest of the job. Thanks for the vid mate and good work :-)
Another stunning build Greg. I quote you from another of your videos "I don't like painting figures" and then you produce a crew so realistic on this Beau that I was expecting them to look up and say "are you done yet?".....Briliant work!
I feel I'm giving up if I don't add the crew. Just my luck the last couple of builds have supplied both occupants, that's what I get for building older kits 😂
Superb build , and the crew figures are awesome . i have build one to few years ago . But the greatest issue with this kit is the exausts pipes that Tamiya have completely failed unfortunately .
My dad started his working life in 1944 as an apprentice at Bristol Aero Engines in Filton making engines for these, he ended his career in 1993 at BAE having worked on Britannias, Brabazon, Jaguar, VC10, F111, Concord and Airbus.
Do you have an approximate mix of the Flat Black, Royal Blue and Gray that you use? I really like how your paint turned out and would like to use that recipe on an SR-71 kit I'm making. Thank you for posting this video.
I don't have the actual ratios, a few drops at a time until it looks off black. One thing to bear in mind, the colour mix will dry lighter than what you see in the pot wet. Apply your mix on some scrap plastic, just to see what it dries like.
Nice video and this looks nice. I built the thimble-nosed nightfighter variant with resin engines. Like the painting and finishing technique and tips - the engines and collector rings especially.
The pilots have combat fatigue and have been frustrated with having to inform the female controllers "my thing is bent". This last regarding equipment failure. Johnny Johnson mentioned it the book Nightfighter. So glad you put in the pilots.
Greg, thanks for a nicely understated and excellent video which is beautifully crafted just like the model. I learnt so much from this and I'll be applying the techniques to my small airforce in the loft
HI Greg, nice kit and your detailing is quite nice. This kit looks very simple compared to the Revell that i have stated to build. Engine for the Revell was more detailed then the Tamiya and also the landing gears. i think i bit off more than i can chew with this kit, by the way it's the IF Nightfighter. I have the Tamiya Beaufighter TF.Mk.X which willbe the next build. Thanks for your video's and keep them coming. Regards from Ontario Canada.
Really nice build! I'm currently building the Airfix TF.10 and they make up the engine cowl with 3 peices of plastic. Absolute nightmare fit as you can imagine!
Happy New Year to you, another great model. I'll have to try some of those techniques on a B24D model I'm working on at the moment. I'm converting it into a Coastal Command Liberator Mk 3a in memory of the crew (which included my great uncle). He served with the RNZAF as an Observer with 224sqn. The Aircraft he was in crashed whilst attempting an emergency landing 30.10.1942, the registration letter was 'K' and serial number was FK242. He was the Squadron bombing leader and he died with 5 other members of the crew in this accident he was only 24yrs old.
@@GregsModels Thanks for the reply Greg, I don't know much about posting videos on you tube I'm from the time before the Internet and I don't possess your skills. I might have a go though? I've been researching this particular flight for a while now and was part of the group who petitioned Dartmoor National Parks into letting the families erect a memorial to the crew near the crash site, Fullamoor Farm near Grenofen in Devon. The family in NZ were never told much but through research the plane was fitted with the then top secret ASV radar. On the way home from an anti submarine sweep they encountered fuel problems and were diverted to RAF Harrowbeer near Plymouth on the way there the struck 2 barrage balloons and crashed near the air base. Damgaged from the second barrage impact, their wingtip then hit a tree and the plane spun round hit a hedge and came to a stop very near Fullamoor Farm House. I'm working with the Revell 1:48 B24D but it has the old fashioned raised panel lines and I'm trying to decide whether to keep them or recess them instead? Keep safe and best wishes from NZ.
Thanks for this vid, it’s very enlightening. I’ve just bought this kit as my first venture into plane kits (I’ve made a few 1/35 armour). I thought the exact same as you about the figures and I wasn’t going to bother with them. But yours came out real well so I’ll give mine a go and make that decision when I see what my result looks like. Cheers!
Enjoyed that very much, but a question to toss out the ether: Why, when kits are so detailed and well-fitting these days, have crew figures not changed since the early days of plastic kits? Granted, these are better examples of the type (and beautifully painted!), but still with the staring-forward, arm along each leg in one lump design? Can a company like Tamiya not provide: 1. A separate head that can be posed looking right or left. 2. Two separate right arms, one waving, one reaching the yoke/stick. 3. Two separate left arms, one on the throttle, one closing the canopy. - especially in 1/48 and up?
All I know is that it's from the 600th Squadron. I think they had the poor old Blenheim first before receiving the Beaufighters. Based in the UK at first, then the Mediterranean.
Beautiful job.....such precision and attention to detail. The final result: absolutely marvellous. Great tip re the decorative glass....any tips where you obtained them??

Your work on the no-necked pilots is AMAZING.
Got mine back in the early 2000's has been sitting too many years with only a few parts started, after seeing yours,...maybe time to get back into it.
So glad to see somebody put the crew in the airplane. It looks really good.
Just plane & simple build, Brilliant, love the idea of the gems for the lights. 😊
Always loved the Beaufighter. Such a beautiful looking aircraft.
I think this is my favourite of your builds that ive watched so far, I especially like the variation in paintwork and worn areas.
That blue you put into the black just makes the black richer ...nicely done
Pilot figures awesome, glad you decided to use them 👍
"Two engines, closely followed by a plane." Love the Beau.
Yes, a beautiful plane. Quintessentially British.

Great build as always. My goodness, the air crew seemed fed up!

Beautiful job mate. Love the colour scheme. Can you do a video on your display cabinets?
I don't display them. They are packed away and placed in storage. Someday I'll have to get rid of them to make space.
Outstanding build Greg ! Love it ! Hope you and yours are well ! have a great/safe week ! Cheers , Tony
Cheers Tony
Always a good build sir. Shame receipt not same in 2021 , I have a Tamiya T 55 not that many parts but you can never go wrong with a Tamiya.
Nice job, Greg! The black finish turned out really well.
Excellent job!

Canadian viewer. You made a black finish come alive. Awesome. Quick question. I see you do not use a gloss coat before applying decals. I presume if you sand the surface of the paint, this smooths out the texture? I think silvering of decals is caused by a rough texture and not necessarily the sheen of the surface? Thanks.
Yes, I sand the surface smooth ready for the decals. I also find that it gives the surface a certain patena or wear and tear look 👍
@@GregsModels Hey Greg, do you sand every aircraft finish (not just black nightfighter) to prepare for decals rather than using a clear gloss? Thanks.
