I made one of these 30 years ago and it was beautiful and awesome. One of my first good colored builds.
The tomcat sure does look good!
@@machmodels Fun fact, the rims were made from aluminum and the wheels were made from rubber. In the early 1990s this were a big deal.

Excellent job, sir! I’ve always been a fan of the Tomcat (and not JUST because of Top Gun; I fell in love with the plane the very first time I saw one at my local air museum). It’s one of those aircraft that just SCREAMS FLIGHT. The VF-84 scheme is my favorite livery on the F-14 as well as the F-4. It looks outstanding on both aircraft. Great job on this kit. Can’t wait for the next video! Just subbed!!

Final result looks amazing. Just a little info if you where unaware, in no way a criticism, when parked the f-14’s exhaust because of the way the hydraulics work one of the nozzles is always in the open position and the other closed. Just some info I recently found out myself. Looking forward to your next build.

I picked up this kit in December '24 -- the 'Late' version Carrier Launch Set -- at Hobby Square on a recent visit to Shizuoka, Japan. While there, I also visited Tamiya HQ, archives and museum. It was awesome, but that was #2 on the Bucket List: #1 was to ride the Shinkansen 'bullet trains.' Your paint skills are very impressive. Thank you dude! All I can recommend is potentially getting a 1/72 tomcat which is a lot cheaper and testing it out on that!
Sounds like a good plan. I`ve done one 1/48 scale plane and a couple of 1/72s but all clean and ”perfect” paint. Always scared I`ll burn through the clear and ruin the paint wiping of panel line and such. But yeah another small cheaper practice kit is a good idea

Since there is a gear mechanism for the wings to fold, it would have been nice to see how the wings fold in and out.
It definitely would’ve! However, if you select the part that depicts the “bags” in the open wing position it doesn’t allow you to sweep the wings back… it almost locks them in place! Sorry I couldn’t show you but I am sure it would be buttery smooth!😁
Hint for any F-14A modelers that might find this interesting: The way the shutdown sequence is ran, one nozzle iris will be open and the other one retracted.

Did you paint the entire plane one color or the two-tone grey/white like the instructions/model calls for?
It’s hard to differentiate between the light gull grey and the white, but I did in fact paint both of the colours✌🏼
