I'm blown away with the detail, it means a lot to me because my uncle Jack flew the F4 in Vietnam, in 1969 I was 9 and Jack was home for Xmas and I was in awe. Thank you for great content. 🙏🇺🇸
I did this kit some months ago. I did it with Eduards big ED Photo etch and aftermarket decals for "Jolly Rogers". This kit is still my favourite kit til this day.
I used to spend my lunch break sitting at the foot of Miramar Naval Air Station strip to watch these come back from the desert. They would loop around the tower and come back around to land. They would open out their wings and throw the plane on it's side to brake. You could just sit and listen to them throttling to land. Can't tell me they weren't having a blast!
Dude, I've just found your avenue...about 2 weeks ago...smooth is all I can say...appreciate your time... This is my third go around with this build... the details with which you go to in these adventures is second to none...also the background music...plus your jigs... Being forced to stay low, by are environment as of late...has caused me to become homebound... Your escapes in time are well worth it... Keep them coming if you can... Thanks again dude...
Amazing work! I've never had the energy to complete a model, I had an f-14 in the box for decades. This video helped me get some of the satisfaction of seeing one completed well, thanks.
There is something about the f-14, just finished the iranian f-14 and even with all my errors is still looks stunning just because its such a beautiful airframe.
in the past few years i have started putting all my aircraft on sticks, effectively rending them as training aids, but i get a lot more enjoyment out of them as i can hold them, examine them, and fly them around.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Considering I absolutely LOVE the F-14 Tomcat and plan on building several of these new Academy kits your video was just what I needed. It was perhaps one of the most useful videos (at least for me) that I've ever watched. Again, thanks & Great Job!!!
Very excellent. I hadn't thought of using clear orange. I'm thinking of using pastel chalk on mine for that discoloration. I'm currently building this myself and I haven't attached the wings yet. I put those pivot cards into place, and I figured I'd slide the wings onto those cards after I've painted them.
To this day, the Tomcat remains the best looking heavy US fighter. Those curves, that wide bay between the engines (even though it wasn't exactly the best idea under certain conditions), the angles... I think only Russia's Flanker stands up to it in terms of looks.
Hello! I came across your videos yesterday by accident but today became a subscriber. Thank you for doing these videos. Seeing fighter planes and jets reminds me of when I was a kid and we’d visit my cousins in another city. My cousins had a den/rec room with a lot of planes and helicopters hanging from the ceiling. To me, as a 5 years old kid, it was like going to a model aviation exhibit. I’ve dabbled a little in model aircraft when I was a teen, but it’s not really my thing. Cars in 1/24, 1/64 & 1/87 scales are my thing. However, I do enjoy watching others build planes, jets, helicopters, etc., so I am enjoying your videos. Wishing you all the best with your shop. Hobby shops that I could actually visit are getting scarce here in the US. They either go out of business or go exclusively with online shopping.
I'm happening on different f-14 model videos as I just ordered a Tamiya F-14A Jolly Roger kit. I'm also thinking of making it in flight (I shall see how easy it is to seal its wheel flaps). What I like about its kit is that it has fully adjustable sweep wings. I'm into 3D printing and design....so I'm going to be doing my stand as a 3D print. Have in mind a Jolly Rogers base, a gimbal that lets you change the axis of the fuselage (that will screw in the underside of the fuselage inbetween the front and back Phoenix podsz).
Great job! I bought this kit after watching your video. I was wondering what were the transparent sticks you used to make the stand? I also wanna build a flying mode and I am looking for the materials. Thank you
Awesome model, There's just 1 little oversight in it. On the engines there is a piece of the fuselage molded wich should be in gray paint not in metal. Other wise beautiful build.
Carrier air wing 6 had the "AE" tailcode. I know this because I flew S-3A Vikings in VS-28, also in air wing 6. We deployed with the VF-143 "Pukin' Dogs" aboard USS Independence (CV-62) in 1983/4. Inside baseball: we had 2 fighter squadrons, with tail number series 1** and 2**. Attack squadrons, the AEW detachment, helo squadrons, all had tail numbers beginning with sequential even hundred numbers. My VS-28 had tail codes in the 7** series. More inside baseball: every squadron had a "double-nuts" plane with tail number ending in "00". These were decorated more elaborately, and were designated as the "CAG Bird". The carrier air group commander was theoretically supposed to be able to fly every type, so each squadron had a plane for him. Although I never ever saw our CAG in an S-3, he was a fighter jock through & through. VF-143 lost an airplane during one of our workup exercises. I remember being in the SAR on-scene commander plane, orbiting overhead, until the helo arrived to fish the crew out of the water. One of them didn't make it. The weathering job on this model looks great. If anything, it's a bit understated. Our aircraft got EXTREMELY oily and ratty looking. Nice one! Subscription added...
Looks amazing. I thought of having a go at modelling again, (used to enjoy them as a young lad!) but now realise I could never do one justice having seen your work. Also wondered what all of the equipment and numerous paints etc all cost? Looks like painting and finishing is the real challenge, not the assembly?
Fantastic job! Very interesting to know about all of your tools and equipment in your videos: tweezers, bending tools, painting stands, airbrush, compressor, airbrush spray booth etc. Will be interesting if you mark them also like you naming paints, sanding paper numbers, airbrush pressure etc.
I noted that you give needle size and pressure for the first gloss coat. Could you give more insight into needle size & pressure used when doing the panel work. I’m new to modeling and airbrushing. I’ve done a couple of models, and the control needed for panel work is an area I struggle with.
Hi, at 3:40, you mention about follow the instructions when you should not have? Then you cut off a piece of the pivot. You said in order to remove the wings once the fusalodge in assembled just off center of the center of the hole so the wing can be taken out,(off). My question is does the wing need to be removed for the build? Could you explain this a bit? I have this model and have opened the package. Have not started it yet. Hope to in the next few weeks. I am just wondering about the pivot wing. Does it need to be removed, if so why does it need to be removed. My model is DOYUSHA. It is all in a print I do not understand. Very high detail. Trying to learn how to build this model. Thank you so much, great build.
Great job Andy! I was in the Pukin' Dogs in the mid-90s & had a blast (made deployments on the Ike & George Washington). You did a good job of capturing the personality of the Tomcat & the mottled grey look of being well-used but still reasonably clean. Even though 1:72 isn't my favorite scale, there's still just as much work as 1:48. Too bad you didn't use the photo reece TARPS pod (if the kit came with one?).
I think the F-14 is one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery humans ever designed. Incredible work on the model, sir.
Absolutely stunning!!! It’s so great to see how you have done all of this. Incredible skills.
I'm blown away with the detail, it means a lot to me because my uncle Jack flew the F4 in Vietnam, in 1969 I was 9 and Jack was home for Xmas and I was in awe. Thank you for great content. 🙏🇺🇸

I’ve only had good results with Academy kits. They don’t have a lot of the detail of Tamiya and Hasegawa but the engineering is first rate.
I used to spend my lunch break sitting at the foot of Miramar Naval Air Station strip to watch these come back from the desert. They would loop around the tower and come back around to land. I am an avid watcher of your videos and have improved my own technique as a result. Phenomenal work as always! Love the detail!
Nice well done!.. I still have a Fujimi 1/48 F-14A still in it's box more than 40 years ago 👍✈️

Timeless design, come with good proportions
I think your errors made it more realistic 😬.
Yeah, Iranian Tomcats look cool loaded with Russian Vympel missiles.
I miss the Dogs, back when we were VF-143, “no bloody A”.
ANYTIME BABY!!!!
Best model of a Tomcat ever!!! The custom stand is awesome!!!😳😱
That was some serious craftsmanship...the stand was super professional as well ...final result is just perfect
Отличная работа👍
Точно такая же модель лежит, руки ни как не дойдут, ждет своего часа
I wish I had your level of patience and attention to detail.... WELL DONE!!!

Holey crap .. That's amazing. .. New to modelling, videos like these really inspire me. . Thaaaank you.
F-14 один из самых красивых американских самолётов.
Fabulous. This is what modelling is all about. Thank you and keep teaching us.

Agree. F-14 and Su-27 are the best looking planes.
Bellissimo modello , painting PERFETTO ....👌 complimenti ottimo soggetto .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome job, very prolific, it looks almost real
Maradona in football, Jordan in Basket, Nadal in tennis, Spielberg in cinema, Senna in F1, and Plasmo in modelling and scale models...
Outstanding! I wish I had your talent in model construction; your detail is fantastic!

Academy kits are my favorite to work with!

This looks stunning, and the stand really sets it apart. Great work!
stand looks dumb, takes away from the model
I have never used an airbrush. I'm impressed that there is so little overspray. You wield it like a scalpel. Nice job. Very fun to watch.
I love that “making the stand”, requires a workshop.
Will have to give this kit a go, I served on the USS America right after this squadron left, but still remember seeing their patches in the ready room
Enjoyed your video very much. More, more and more! Thanks from Judy in Nova Scotia, Canada
I learned a lot from this build. I really like how you used the clear colors to highlight the metal exhaust.
Beautiful!
Wow. Superb Andy👌🏻🙂
A-6 intruder, make us proud!!!
WIP right now. Thank you for this video, it helps a lot!
Beautiful Work
Amazing Detail
Thank You Great Man
Stunning SMS cheers Liam
You brave man, putting the heat gun so close to your finished work!! 😬
awesome. I wish I had a drill press, a metal stamper, and a band saw to make the stand.
Damn....that's one of the most enjoyable & informative tutorials I have watched in a very long time....a stunning end result!!....subbed.....
Thank you.
Very well done, Sir.
Another great model and a great paint job 👏👏
Simply beautiful! Looks great!
Great work! Inspiring... plz continue to share work like this
A masterpiece!
The only thing missing is the glove vanes. Nice work.
Great work!! Thanks for sharing!

I've just discovered your channel and am delighted. Absolutely fabulous work.
That stand is such a cool idea!!! Fantastic work, sir!
So amazing. Thank you
너무 잘 봤습니다
wow , great modeling !!
thank you for your video
Your fit for the fuselage main and cockpit was molded properly mine was out by 1 and half mm.
Pretty good ✌️
Incredible work!
Amazing work, I'm learning so much great and easy to understand information and handy tips
Dogs are the best!
Great job!
Good job 👍😊
Fantastic paint and weathering skills!

Hi, Thanks you the pointer!
Yes that's always a pain in the arse masking off and painting that bit on f-14 kits!
Excellent build. Your collection of model kits must be very interesting :-) Regards.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 😬👍
Wow - looks fantastic!!
Excellent work my friend. Congratulations. cheers.
Fantastic job. For sale 1/72 🤩🤩🤩
Whaou amazing, thanks

Thank you Jim, great, interesting comment! Thanks for the sub.
The model build and painting was great and then you go and top it building that stand.
I reckon there's a hole in the market for stands like that
Super wow, Shaky Modellbau 🙋♂️ from Germany 🇩🇪 Darmstadt City 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
if i have your patience i could rule the world
Omg the stand!!!!
Wow, perfect👍
I always thought this kit's panel lines are too heavy, which makes it look cartoonish. But you made it into one of the best Tomcats I've ever seen!
トムキャット復活してくれ!
戦闘機の中で一番カッコええわ👍
What would you think about painting part of the acrylic rods in clear orange?
Great video, love the outcome
Perfect
Have you considered an led kit under the rods?? Apart from that what a beautiful piece of work well done.
Or using a mirror underneath a similar type stand. That stand is seriously bad ass. Seriously awesome I bet there's a market for those I'd buy one
Awesome...
와 정말 똑같아요, ,,,,신기신기
what glue/cement do you use? I could really go for that small brush when gluing
Looks amazing. I thought of having a go at modelling again, (used to enjoy them as a young lad!) but now realise I could never do one justice having seen your work. Badass!
Absolutely stunning!!!
Thank you, thanks for watching.

Ace mate 😉👌
glass and semi-gloss are acrylic paint? - washes and liners are oil based?
Nice...you do amazing work.
