    These changes weren't by accident. If you look at what is different now or, better yet, what is more difficult to access now, we easily see that these changes were targeted at content creators. A neutered search function, delayed uploads of recent games, poor video quality, and the plethora of other changes make it a march through hell for someone trying to make a video about players or games. The NFL wants total control of its content. A downright monopoly. Don't get me wrong, a company has a right to the content it produces, however, it seems that the NFL has made it clear what its priorities are in regards to money and the community.

      Right and it had potential to hurt young and aspiring coaches/scout. It’s very hard to get all-22 angles from interscholastic and intercollegiate programs, so getting it from NFL Game Pass was Gold! Glad they was able to get that solved. I am concerned on whether they make changes to the International subscription.

    I've done quality assurance testing for a decade and yes, you're right that all those little user experience issues add up to huge frustration. Now obviously I'm speculating here, but all these changes were deliberate decisions to lower hosting costs and save them money. All those previous features have an infrastructure cost, whether it's a deep search of all the plays over the last 12 years or the number of concurrent streams fans are watching. I suspect the thinking was that they'd provide the bare minimum of features, and just hope that fans would grumble, but accept it. The NFL counts on their audience being captive because there isn't an alternative.
    Think about that before subscribing to 2022's game pass.

So they probably won't remove those features outside the U.S. in hopes that it draws in more people. perhaps, but in reality, what they are trying to do is prevent the video from being on youtube for free. Screwing customers is as old as tech itself (right google?). The joke here is that they are not going to be able to keep their video from finding its way to free platforms. That not one company or sports league has been even a little interested in how to monetize that reality is the true indictment of these deadheads.

Half the time it can't recognize that I am a subscriber even after I sign in and I have to reload the page multiple times until it register that I paid $100 dollars for this shit. Then each page within the website seems like it has to load 3 different times before I can finally interact with it. Seems like every week the replays take longer to upload, especially the all-22. As an NFL game pass international subscriber I think the worst thing about NFL game pass is how lazy they are with not removing the commercials during their original content. If you are using your laptop you have to manually skip the commercial breaks and you can't even tell exactly when they end so you have to click around many times just to get it right. For $115 annually they should at least have the courtesy to remove the commercials especially when the football season is only about half the year. They should make it easier to enjoy the NFL originals/programs content without wondering if the site is even worth paying for.

And also the price went down to match the American version, Game Pass international used to be over 1500 USD a year, ridiculous stuff.

    This is clearly an attempt at buffing US content creators. There several things the NFL doesn't want. They don't want someone who is not in their pocket becoming a voice of the league through highlights or breakdowns. They don't want anyone to make unquestionably better highlight reels than those in their pocket produce (which isn't hard to do save for the high drama that is nfl films.) Probably most subtly, yet very important is that the NFL is a highly curated television program. Anyone who has played any sport on a semi or professional level can attest to the fact that all that occurs within a game is not as clean, predictable or well-officiated as it appears to be on screen. This is especially true for football. The more worthwhile analysts and commentators break down the game using the 22 man footage the more this facade breaks. Getting a little off topic but this is one of the subconscious reasons many men truly miss playing sports - because they can't live as vicariously through watching the sport as they wish because deep down they know what is being presented isn't true to the experience of participating. Real fans of the game itself regardless of the brand that is the NFL love this raw perspective and deeper understanding of how the game unfolds. But they aren't the NFL's target audience. Rather the target audience is the most casual of fan who prefers the curated version of the game. The laughably long decline of the Madden franchise is a good example of this (among other things.)
    Appreciate this channel. Rant over 🙏.

    As a software engineer and some who who host side projects as well. I bet it also (but not entirely) has to do with the fact that they weren’t able to make that search very efficient and hosting 22 versions of the same play would also be expensive. I’m not sure if the NFL out sources their software or not as yes, it’s cheaper to hire someone from a third world country but what you realize is that it’s often not very efficient and you end up paying more for compute and storage. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened to them as well as all the other things people are mentioning.

    • @PerfectorZY
      @PerfectorZY 2 года назад

      That being said, it’s not like someone from a 3rd world is just not capable, but typically the capable ones end up coming to the US. Though there has been a move to hire more in those places and allow people to stay. However, it’s probably hard for the NFL to compete with Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, etc when it comes to the best talent.

    As a non-UA customer I've been fine with Game Pass - certainly beats trying to find a half decent (and not even half legal) stream and hoping it doesn't disappear half way through... Which was about the only way to watch games here in Europe before Game Pass. The feature I'm sad we no longer have is being able to subscribe to only one team's games. That was superb. You can oonly see your designated team's games, but at a considerably lower price. For me the current system - no one-team subscription - is rather costly, because I don't watch many games other than my own team's. But that's still the best option I have... I understand that they are important and very useful features, but I personally don't care about a lot of features like search and all-22, as I've never needed them. But their usefulness is obvious.

    I just think it’s so funny that the NFL will do just about anything to monopolize their content when their so bad at marketing the sport themselves (“super wild card weekend” and the Nickelodeon slime game). Like don’t you realize that the only thing keeping your viewers intrigued are the small self-run RUclips accounts like Brett Kollman and The QB School? Without them, the NFL would be obsolete in 15 years

    • @Snookbone
      @Snookbone 2 года назад

      I don't think accounts with less than 500K subscribers are keeping the general football viewership engaged. People love football and want to watch it regardless of the marketing. If the marketing is poor, it just won't bring in fans who were already uninterested.
