I've had my Nexus 5 for about a year & a half, and it hasn't aged one bit. It still feels as snappy as the day I got it & still plays all of the latest games perfectly. I thoroughly enjoy using it & I don't think i'll be upgrading for a long time.
I have the Nexus 5 and I absolutely love it! The phone still runs like as if it still was new, and the battery is actually fantastic, I can get through a whole day and still have 30-40 percent left at the end of the day with my moderate use.
September 2015, this is still the best smarthphone i've ever had. Switched my battery a month ago, since the old one was really on it's last legs, and i usually get a good 4 hours screen on time while playing games and using wi fi most of the day. Camera is decent enough, not the best. Not quite the best value phone anymore, but 350$ in 2013 for such an amazing phone was really great. I hope the new nexus 5 soon to be revealed later this month is just as great as this little fella.
Almost all of the problems he mentioned can be solved by either kernels, ROMS, and other optimizations. It's a Nexus. The support from developers and xda community are overwhelming.
Dude, I'm not into techonology and I was a bit dissapointed with that "little problems" with my N5. Fortunately, I'm knowing there's a few apps to solve them and I'm so glad about it... more than two weeks ago when I bought this incredible phone!!! :) All I'm saying right now is: "Goodbye Xperia, expensive brand of shit! :)"
"Obsolescence". That sounds like something Michael Fisher would say lol. All joke aside though, the Nexus 5 still remains one of the best value for money devices out there. I still get the temptation to buy one.
I literally search for after the buzz video from pocket now after watching review of any phone.. genius format that says the truth as new ones are deceiving..
***** you mean to tell me that if u have elemetelx in the n5 you have no battery life time to remove it but double tap to wake it's a feature i use everyday :(
Google makes it developer friendly rather consumer friendly to cut down the price and make other sacrifices such as speakers. Not surprise the battery life is cut down too hoping that one day nexus can last all day as iOS devices when optimisation gets better
I just bought this phone after using the note 3 for several months, and like it much better already. Battery could be better, but it works. Display looks great, reproducing realistic colors that don't look cartoonish like. Very pleased with my Nexus.
Nexus 5 here. Best device I've ever had, hands down! People are complaining about the camera, it's not the best, but this is a Tech geek/DEVELOPER phone. They had to make cuts somewhere and battery and camera were it. Otherwise this is, spec-wise, BEST bang for your buck.
Generally off contract and trading devices (craigslist ads). I have 4 phones right now, usually have at least two so I can be selling and buying new ones all the time.
I change phones every second year or sometimes even third. And I never buy flagships. My current phone is a Galaxy Mini from about 2010, but it's running KitKat and I'm fine with it.
There is one problem I have with the Nexus 5, and it's the dust that is collected in the small space between the display and the frame. I tried to clean it with a vacuum cleaner, but it didn't work. Still, it doesn't really affect my experience. I love the device as much as I loved it when I got in on the first day! The updates that are promised to the camera (where Google will take the camera app on Play Store and make it much more better) will hopefully fix the bad quality, IMHO, the hardware is there but there is no software to take advantage of it.
Spot on review. Sums up how I feel about my nexus after 4 months of use. Besides battery life and the build materials/design its pretty much the perfect phone
Rocking that nexus 5 bright red, had storm trooper edition. I also got nexus 7 32GB LTE since it launched. Best overall experience and similar experience u find with iPhone / iPad with iOS. I have two complains, battery life sucks on nexus 5, always looking for a charger and screen looks dull.
I agree with most points, it was really the bang for my buck and the fact I needed an android phone as well as an iOS device for app development that drew me to the N5. Best bang for your buck really. Personally, I adore the design and built quality.
What everyone doesn't understand about the Nexus 5, is that it's THE Android that comes straight from Google, who initially code each and every iteration of this wonderful OS. It's also about the smoothness and fluidity of Android. Nexus line is reserved for the cleanest possible Android experience the way google meant it to be. Sure it's not a do everything device like some the samsungs or htc devices, but why would you need a remolt control or a stylus or blood pressure monitor. An avg user could care less about these add on features. However the cam, on the N5 is one if my favorites, yes I think the colors are much truer to life than iphone5/5s. It's headphone amp is dead quiet with no noise and frequency set to flat (that is adjustable too). The UI experience is in my opinion amazing. No flagship comes close to the stability, cleanliness, data speed consistency, call quality, and user experience, to that of the N5. Wireless charging, NFC, wifi 802.11 ac, super sharp 445ppi screen res, and guaranteed first hand OS updates, are some of it's more unique features out of the box. Btw, GPE phones don't all support every data frequency which phones like the Nexus 5 and iphone 5S support. So if you get an HTC one M7 GPE, be prepared to hang on 2G speeds quite often.
The Nexus 5 is indeed one of the best Nexus phones we've seen. And yeah it's still is a great phone to use! If you like, bloatware then get all the other branded phones. Once a Nexus, always a Nexus👍
I still absolutely love my nexus 5 that I've had since launch, it's been fantastic, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anybody.. I just wish the camera was better. Hopefully the rumoured dedicated camera app on the Google play store will help things.
2001bmwm3e46 that's exactly how I feel. The camera is great (hardware) but the UI and functionality (software) are lacking. Only saving grace for me is the HDR+. Video is great though (:
Yeah I think it's the camera app.. Because there is a rare occasion where the camera gets the shot you want and is very impressive. The software makes things incredibly hard to get the best out of the hardware... The nexus 5 simply can not perform in near darkness with the flash.. 9/10 times the photo will come out out of focus. (awaiting the attack for my next comment) I wish the camera performed like the iPhone.
Vai Rostampour I think the cameras really good for the money. Let's hope Google knows what they're doing on the software side. Because that's the only reason it's not doing so good.
I got my Nexus 5 about 5 (lol) days ago switching from a Galaxy S4 , this phone is toooo smooth & just plain cool , I just love it the camera is great idk why everybody is beating it up , to me its the same pics from an S4 , S4 just has a teeny little bit more detail bit that's it , I'll pick the Nexus 5 any day
I have it since day one and I usually about five months later with a phone I used to get bored but not with this one. it's my second LG phone in my life and have bought about 10 smartphones so far since 2009 it's great to have this kind of device at this price. love the phone and for the first time in a while I think I gonna keep it for a whole year.
I love my Nexus 5! Here in Boston, on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network I get great speeds ( like 23 down and 14 up), my only gripe about the phone is that it never seems to focus correctly. At least not when I want it to. For example: My focus is dead center, fine, I will tap to focus, but when I tap on what I want to focus on it seems to interpret that as a different spot, cause I have to tap on a corner, or something further away from the camera. And this is for it to focus on what is closer to the camera. Auto focus nearly never works. Hopefully 4.4.3 fixes this.
So 700 dollars means it will feel great in the hand? Lots of flagships I've had were very uncomfortable. As for the nexus 5 it wasn't one of them. It was probably the most comfortable I've ever used.
How is that not feel good in hand? I got this device, and is the best device for hold. I dont use any case for the first time with any device. It is so solid and stick in the hand.
In the past year I have used the s3, HTC one m7, lg g2, galaxy note 3 and a red 32gb nexus 5 and I can tell you that hands down the nexus 5 has been the best experience for me. I like things clean and fast. I don't feel like a phone is fully mine if it has something on it I don't use and I can only disable it not uninstall it. (Bloatware) nexus 5 doesn't have the best camera or display but they are good enough for me and it took a while to realize they software is the most important part and the foundation of my mobile experience.
my nexus 5 is now 3 years old and still rocking snapdragon 800 and 2 gb ram and adreno 330 are still doing awesome job! do you think is should upgrade from nexus 5?
I find it much faster than any iPhone model and for a phone this cheap it blows a lot of competition out of the water and coupled with the latest version of android this device is future proof for the next 2 years.
***** I own both and swap sims in each depending on what I feel like. The 5 is definitely getting to that point where I'd be concerned about it not getting software updates anymore, so you may want to jump for the 5X, 6, or 6P. The 6P however is still the ideal flagship phone. Just overall a good device.
Although I'm currently using the new HTC one M8, I still recommend the Nexus 5 to people who are looking for a new phone. It's an amazing phone for the price!
Sucks that the N5 isnt available in Singapore so easily and it doesnt come cheap at all for us per se. Would have loved to get one of it. but still surviving on my One X with cm waiting for my recontract period to get my new phone.
I love my n5 just like I did the day it leaked for the first time and really this review is spot on except, in my case, for design. I always get compliments on it though that probably has a lot to do with the fact that it is not known nor commercialized in my country
Great phone.... I am late in appreciating the Nexus initially I had a Galaxy S4 but after ensuring numerous software kinks from the Galaxy S4 I saw the light and bought the Nexus and sold my Galaxy.
Anybody with this phone and is a pretty heavy user, how much screen on time have you gotten with lte on? I know my nexus 4 was horrible with lte. It drained the battery in less than 2 hours. I'm debating weather to get this or an htc one m7. I like htc because of the speakers but the nexus 5 has a newer processor. It also gets the updates faster but i'll convert the m7 to a gpe. So my second question is, should I really count the processor difference? Or will the 600 be fine for another year or so?
I have the nexus 5. Normally after a couple of weeks with my SIM card in a different handset I get the itch to stick it back in my iphone. ... .. . with the nexus 5 I'm in a total dilemma. I now love an android handset as much as I do an iphone (that is saying something for me). The N5 looks are so pure, it screams high end simplicity. Now my SIM card has to take turns between devices. For the price (even if you get it on contract) you cannot do better.
I am a nerd yes. But my wife is not and after using my nexus 5 for a day she wanted one for herself and she loves it. I never thought I would be able to get her to stop using iPhone. I use PAC and she is using CM11, of course she doesn't care about ROMs and etc. We each get around 5 hours of screen on time with 30-40% battery left at the end of the day. Factory ROM is indeed not great, but the phone is the best I have owned for the price and then some.
Thanks for this review! Question for the folks at POCKETNOW - I have an opportunity to get it for 175 dollars - should I? I love the look and feel of the device and have been wanting to get it for a while....worth it?
I like how he's complaining that this phone doesn't have over color saturation. Simplicity and a clean design is what makes the N5 great. No one can ever make these reviewers happy. Luckily I don't listen to reviewers.
where can you buy this for $350 for 16GB? Amazon is $400 and Best Buy is $500! T-Mobile store sells it for $400 too. I can't find anywhere that sells it for $350
@Raymond Baez They say the same thing about my Nokia 920.. The point is the only phone people might not say that to is the Samsung galaxy and that's because the majority of the people have them or seem them.
Nexus us waaayy faster than the Note 2 especially since this year would be its second year I would say the nexus is a better bang for buck and would retain the value longer..
@Smooth Bunz So true.. A true phone holds up over the test of time. At least a year and older with constant abuse. My girlfriend has a Nexus 4 and starting to come up with some performance issues. It could have something to do with kit Kat (I don't know).
after the buzz is probably the favorite show of many subscribers
I've had my Nexus 5 for about a year & a half, and it hasn't aged one bit. It still feels as snappy as the day I got it & still plays all of the latest games perfectly. I thoroughly enjoy using it & I don't think i'll be upgrading for a long time.

I have this phone and its still awesome and it half way through 2015! Running android 5.1.1 and honestly can't complain!
Oct 2015: Marshmallow breathed a new life into it. Its smoother than ever. And oh! better standby time.
Still one of the best device on the market. Period.
Agreed
September 2015, this is still the best smarthphone i've ever had. Switched my battery a month ago, since the old one was really on it's last legs, and i usually get a good 4 hours screen on time while playing games and using wi fi most of the day. Camera is decent enough, not the best.

exactly! already re-calibrated my screen, making the blacks deeper with more popping colors and fixed my speaker with Viper4Android.
that's why devs and geeks love nexus devices more than any samsung or HTC :)
T3CHSMASH I was looking for some app to do that. Thanks for the tip. ;) Have a nice day.
Dude, I'm not into techonology and I was a bit dissapointed with that "little problems" with my N5. Fortunately, I'm knowing there's a few apps to solve them and I'm so glad about it... more than two weeks ago when I bought this incredible phone!!! :)

"Obsolescence". That sounds like something Michael Fisher would say lol. All joke aside though, the Nexus 5 still remains one of the best value for money devices out there. I still get the temptation to buy one.
Walk into the light my brother, we welcome u with open arms
Ahahahahahaha! I hear you.
Michael Best still the phone
Jake Woods tell me about it. Still inclined to get one but I'm already loving my Moto X.
I literally search for after the buzz video from pocket now after watching review of any phone.. genius format that says the truth as new ones are deceiving..
Love my Nexus 5. My only real "complaint" is battery life.
right
***** you mean to tell me that if u have elemetelx in the n5 you have no battery life time to remove it but double tap to wake it's a feature i use everyday :(
***** what i meant to say was that i was gonna uninstall it because i wasn't aware it drained battery life until i noticed when u posted ur comment
Google makes it developer friendly rather consumer friendly to cut down the price and make other sacrifices such as speakers. Not surprise the battery life is cut down too hoping that one day nexus can last all day as iOS devices when optimisation gets better

Nexus 5 to the nexus 6. Still the nexus 5 will be a contender.
I am very grateful for the after the buzz reviews, love it :)
This series is amazing, keep it up guys!
The nexus 5 is awesome! I'm still loving it with no problems!
Still the best phone out IMO. I usually switch phones every 3 months or so, but have had a Nexus 5 since launch.
How can you afford to get a new phone every 3 months?
Jehan Kateli I have a job.
nickL7389 Do you buy on contract or off contract?
Generally off contract and trading devices (craigslist ads). I have 4 phones right now, usually have at least two so I can be selling and buying new ones all the time.

I've seriously been thinking of getting this as my 2nd phone when I don't need all the power as I do with my Note 3. Thank for this follow up.
How did he do the multitasking and 4:20?!
I've been trying to look for a multi-tasking thing but I can't find one

:( I'm jelly keep losing competitions for them lol
Me too, but streaming from it to a chromecast ;)
Finally! I've been waiting for this one for a long time
I Love the nexus 5..I'm running Beanstalk 4.4 on mine and the phone breezes through everything I throw at it with ease!..and I'm a power user
The Nexus 5 is indeed one of the best Nexus phones we've seen. And yeah it's still is a great phone to use! If you like, bloatware then get all the other branded phones.
Once a Nexus, always a Nexus👍
Exactly. I have still GALAXY NEXUS tuned with Fancy Kernel and I am pretty sure that my next phone will be Nexus :-)
I still absolutely love my nexus 5 that I've had since launch, it's been fantastic, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anybody.. I just wish the camera was better. Hopefully the rumoured dedicated camera app on the Google play store will help things.

You've come a long way from the Phonedog days :D
Great job! 👏👏👏👏
Still the best phone around, for the price or not. Loving this phone, since the day I got it. :D
I really enjoy this series.
I just bought a nexus 5 and I love it! A lot better than my older phone (HTC ONE S).
What's that app at the front of the folder next to the folder with hangouts (the red square with a smaller square)?
Where can i find your dekstop background on the right monitor ?
I love my Nexus 5! Here in Boston, on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network I get great speeds ( like 23 down and 14 up), my only gripe about the phone is that it never seems to focus correctly. At least not when I want it to.

The Google Now Launcher is only available for nexus devices and Google Play editions? I run it on my LG G2 without any problems..
What's that white circle that splits the screen between two apps? I've never seen that before
I was really close of getting the Nexus 5 but I was on contract but Im happy with the HTC One M8 so far
Still have mine even after all the new nexus phones this phone is a trooper
One of the longest intros known to mankind
Yes its the best .. Following up is the daily .. I look forward to waving that every night ..I wake to see it sometimes
So 700 dollars means it will feel great in the hand? Lots of flagships I've had were very uncomfortable. As for the nexus 5 it wasn't one of them. It was probably the most comfortable I've ever used.
Nexus 5 is the first android phone I bought and it's been great! glad I chose it over the Samsung Galaxy and HTC One :)
How is that not feel good in hand? I got this device, and is the best device for hold. I dont use any case for the first time with any device. It is so solid and stick in the hand.
In the past year I have used the s3, HTC one m7, lg g2, galaxy note 3 and a red 32gb nexus 5 and I can tell you that hands down the nexus 5 has been the best experience for me.

my nexus 5 is now 3 years old and still rocking snapdragon 800 and 2 gb ram and adreno 330 are still doing awesome job! do you think is should upgrade from nexus 5?
+Vishwas Ravindran I had to upgrade mine because the screen broke after almost 3 years of use.. I miss my nexus.. :c
I live in Fort Myers FL and I have an AT&T plan and I get 45 to 50 mbps on full signal.
Watching this on my nexus 5.. Its a great phone!
I have a nexus 5 32 GB white
I find it much faster than any iPhone model and for a phone this cheap it blows a lot of competition out of the water and coupled with the latest version of android this device is future proof for the next 2 years.
I just bought one impulsively, and I love it. Coming from a 6P by the way. Also I miss Taylor Martin.
Definitely still holding up to the test of time, a really good phone for the price!
Great video. I'd have liked Joe to do an editorial or video on how he's found living with the device, considering it's his daily driver.
are you going to a nexus 6 after the buzz? I'm interested in purchasing but not sure how it's aged
did you get it?
Although I'm currently using the new HTC one M8, I still recommend the Nexus 5 to people who are looking for a new phone. It's an amazing phone for the price!
I love the nexus 5 !!
Is that what you have with tmobile
FRANCKLINE JEAN-BAPTISTE yes !!!
I wish it could activate with a vzw SIM.
what was the game he was playing towards the end there thanks in advance around the 6:48 mark
Roid Rage
F4TAL3FFECT
Thanks!
Sucks that the N5 isnt available in Singapore so easily and it doesnt come cheap at all for us per se. Would have loved to get one of it. but still surviving on my One X with cm waiting for my recontract period to get my new phone.
Well said! Great review!
This is the best looking smartphone on the market right now, in my opinion.
Soon Windows 8.1 Cortana will be the only thing we are talking about!
Michael is better. I don't know what but it just so good to hear him.
I've had a Huawei W1 Windows Phone, but since today I've got this one.
Damnnn, sooooo much better!
I love my Nexus 5, I strongly recommend it. Beautiful, powerful... Not so deep blacks is my only complaint.
Where can I find this wallpaper
I love my n5 just like I did the day it leaked for the first time and really this review is spot on except, in my case, for design. I always get compliments on it though that probably has a lot to do with the fact that it is not known nor commercialized in my country
dude..i want your wallpaper on the left screen, LINK PLIZ
I want one badlyyyy!
Kinda miss having an android phone. But will never go back on anything less than a top end one (moto X and above)
Great phone.... I am late in appreciating the Nexus initially I had a Galaxy S4 but after ensuring numerous software kinks from the Galaxy S4 I saw the light and bought the Nexus and sold my Galaxy.
hey do you use art or dalvik??
Anybody with this phone and is a pretty heavy user, how much screen on time have you gotten with lte on? I know my nexus 4 was horrible with lte. It drained the battery in less than 2 hours.
I'm debating weather to get this or an htc one m7. I like htc because of the speakers but the nexus 5 has a newer processor. It also gets the updates faster but i'll convert the m7 to a gpe. So my second question is, should I really count the processor difference? Or will the 600 be fine for another year or so?
with the recent updates my battery has imrpvoed ALOT, gaming quite alot and phone still remains with about 40% at the end of the day
Buy that Nexus 5, then if you want to get the absolute best battery life and you're tech-savy, install the ElementalX custom kernel.
Only 14 mbps on LTE? Here in NZ we get close to 100 mbps. I guess it's due to our smaller population though.
the nexus 5 have been out for this long already? damn.....
get the 5 or wait for the 6 ? thank you
great phone !! hope the new iteration has front firing speakers !!
@pocketnow please add this video in the nexus 5 playlist.
Great review performance is flawless
Thanks for this review! Question for the folks at POCKETNOW - I have an opportunity to get it for 175 dollars - should I? I love the look and feel of the device and have been wanting to get it for a while....worth it?
What app is Taylor using at 4:20?

What's the game that you keep playing throughout the review?
I bought one in decembre and i am actually quite happy with it, although if i needed a mew phone now, would buy an oppo find 7a!
I want Jaime to do the after the buzz videos :/
I prefer when Michael does them, it's something about his style I like more
you mean you want more iPhone-biased reviews? The internet is full of them as it is :)
Michael isnt iphone bias in his reviews, no more than he is any other phone
I like how he's complaining that this phone doesn't have over color saturation. Simplicity and a clean design is what makes the N5 great. No one can ever make these reviewers happy. Luckily I don't listen to reviewers.
hey man, good vid :)
just wanted to know what is that WALLPAPER on your desktop, its so freaking awesome. can u name it or share it :)
Nexus 5 would be a no brainer. Price should drop before the 6 come out
where can you buy this for $350 for 16GB? Amazon is $400 and Best Buy is $500! T-Mobile store sells it for $400 too. I can't find anywhere that sells it for $350
can you do the iphone or the moto X?
@Raymond Baez They say the same thing about my Nokia 920.. The point is the only phone people might not say that to is the Samsung galaxy and that's because the majority of the people have them or seem them.
Please help should I get this or a Note 2
Nexus us waaayy faster than the Note 2 especially since this year would be its second year I would say the nexus is a better bang for buck and would retain the value longer..
@Smooth Bunz So true.. A true phone holds up over the test of time. At least a year and older with constant abuse. My girlfriend has a Nexus 4 and starting to come up with some performance issues. It could have something to do with kit Kat (I don't know).
only if i could get this on Verizon :(
Love my nexus 5
