like ik that not everyone likes farm sims, esp considering the direct that had like fifty, but there’s no need to complain about the literal TWO this direct had that had previews yhat barely lasted a min 🤦♀️ Like, even if streamers or youtubers do that stuff for a bit, I think it’s annoying. It’s y I appreciate Roger’s reactions. He seems genuinely respectful about every game, acknowledging that ‘hey this may not be for me, but congrats to those excited for it’.
At the end of the day, directs and announcement livestreams are supposed to be fun. They dont need to be taken so seriously.

@@RogersBase absolutely! I don’t think since 2002 (and that was Japan only), we got a mainline Mario, Zelda, and Metroid in one year. Technically, MP Remastered isn’t brand new…but to many it is!
(You could say this matches 2017 with Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, and Samus Returns).

This has to be one of the greatest Nintendo Directs I’ve seen in a long time, and I never thought that Super Mario RPG would even get remade and of course, I’m getting it for the holidays right next to Super Mario Bros. Wonder!
49:50 If you've wanted to play a Star Ocean game, this is by far the best in the series. It was originally released on Playstation, so the sprites are from that version. It also has over a dozen characters to join your party. Great game, you'd probably like the story too.

This is what I want out of a Nintendo Direct! Brand new game announcements that send everyone into a frenzy, rather than updates on already existing ones. That was my main gripe with the Nintendo games during the previous direct, so I'm glad they made up for it here!
A Mario RPG remake, a new WarioWare game, a new 2D Mario, a new PEACH game... I don't care if most of the new announcements were Mario games, I'm so excited!

Great Nintendo Direct! Super Mario RPG and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince were my favorite announcements.
Star Ocean The Second Stroy R, The Sparks of Hope DLC, and the Persona 5 Tactica games look good as well.

Star Ocean has been a Square Property for a while. The original team that made Star Ocean were the same guys that started the Tales Franchise and were done over by their bosses. Since Tales was taken from them, they started Star Ocean. But they honestly peaked with Star Ocean 2. There are also some noncombat systems that really flesh out the overworld experience. There is crafting, abilities and leveling up abilities. As an example, there are healing items like blackberries that don't pack that much punch. But if you put your points into the herbology skill, those plant items will actually pack more punch the farther along you advance that skill. Some skills have a much greater degree of success if you have the right "talents". Party characters can have a variety of talents that can determine certain skills, like cooking, art that you can sell for lots of money, and more. Key example: there are certain skills that allow the lead player character to steal from npcs. But in order to even succeed with that action, you need the Nimble Fingers talent from the start(talents are randomly assigned from the start of the game or the intro of a new party member FOR said member). Otherwise, that particular ability is useless. Finally, you can also level up your combat techniques. Levelling them up makes the animations flashier and the potency greater. And you can get new abilities by working on available ones, too.

Super Mario RPG and Star Ocean 2 both getting REMAKES on the same month this year have crushed my wallet, I cannot believe it! Not to mention, Daisy in a MAINLINE Mario game for the first time in like 33 years, this fall is going to be packed.
So pumped for Star Ocean 2... FINALLY! It's the game that got me into RPGs back in the 90s so I have a lot of nostalgia and love for it. The franchise itself was rather up and down, but Roger, if you ever do play a Star Ocean game, 2 is definitely the best one even without the new remake goodness.
I didn't know anything about the rumors going around about this, so at the very beginning I presumed we were just getting it ported to the virtual console.
I have never been happier to be wrong. This is the greatest thing Nintendo has done since releasing The Switch. Not only is it a huge W for Mario RPG fans, but Square Enix being involved bodes well for the future of Nintendo.

Hey Roger, I came to say that I see why you like pikman now, i played pikman 3 and it’s my first pikman game I’ve ever played, and planned on buying 1 this week and 2 some time later and 4 on Christmas, it’s a fun little series

Episode I is my favorite game ever and in addition to a trilogy remaster I think the industry would be robbed without a continuation of the series (the PS2 trilogy we got is only 1/3 of the planned story) and same goes for Xenogears (a remake using the same engine as the upcoming Star Ocean 2 remake and a modern remake like FFVII remake)!

As a mostly Mario focused direct, it was epic and other games like Pikmin 4, Zelda TotK amiibos, and other collections also Detective Pikachu wow great direct as I’m focused on playing Zelda TotK for years to come. Nintendo just wants me to play all the games I’m impressed they are not slowing down at all.

I saw at the summer game fest that you could register at a certain website to get a 'Modern' Amy Rose skin for Sonic Superstars. Will this eventually be available as DLC?

The fact that you have to ask to see Lickitung is the problem with modern Pokemon. It used to be a given that every Pokemon would be in every game, and now you have to hope for your favorite Pokemon. This is why I haven't bought any Pokemon games on Switch except for New Pokemon Snap.
Now that many more people on different consoles will be able to play the legendary MGS franchise, the world will be a better place.

Hey Roger, I loved your reactions and think you have a solid point on Metroid Prime 4 being a cross-gen game. To expand on it: I think it's almost a given at this point that Metroid Prime 4 and Odyssey 2 (or just 3D Mario) will be launch-window titles for the next-gen switch. Something to satiate the casual and hardcore fans alike. I imagine that all existing Switch games will be fully compatible with the next Switch, which is why they're not slowing production on any fronts. Additionally, newer hardware means that all the existing Switch games will run smoother (FPS) and potentially a simple software update can unlock 1080p resolutions (4K with upscaling?) so they will look cleaner too. Since Nintendo chooses stylized art-direction, the textures won't even look bad when upscaled.
Next year, I am genuinely hoping for re-releases of Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and Xenoblade Chronicles: X. I think finishing out the first party Wii U library (minus StarFox Zero, Paper Mario Color Splash, Splatoon 1, and Mario Maker 1) is essential since Switch is the only Nintendo platform where you can basically play any of their first party games and the Wii U was a commercial flop.
I would like to see re-releases of Kid Icarus Uprising, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid Prime 2 & 3. It doesn't really make a lot of sense why they didn't include Galaxy 2 in the 3D All-Stars bundle unless they're planning to re-release it later. I think Prime 2 and 3 are probable, but not entirely necessary releases because Prime 1 was the most played of all of them. I find it odd that they would only remaster Prime 1, when they've had the trilogy bundle for years. Releasing 2 additional remakes in a single year, just before releasing 4 feels a bit off. I think if Nintendo really wants to knock it out of the park, they also release the GameCube library next year with NSO+. That fills in a ton of library gaps and also lets Kirby Air Ride with online be a possibility.

Gotta love Roger's positivity. Someone getting mad at a game existing that isn't specifically aimed for them is always strange to me. Criticism is good in healthy doses but too many people revel in cynicism and hate.
I was hoping we would get a paper Mario remake. But the fact that Mario RPG was remade, it definitely opens the doors for paper Mario remakes now!
