Love your videos Phyllis. I am 69 years old and have been cooking for 47 years but your videos have stepped my game up several notches. I made a double crust fresh peach pie today using your pie crust recipe and it was incredible. I have also started making large batches of biscuits and other dishes and freezing the rest. Much less waste since I am just cooking for two. Thanks again, an old dog can learn new tricks.
I return to this video over and over. She was such a lovely woman and her pie crust recipe is brilliant and so easy. I am so happy that these videos are still available but sad she is no longer with us.
ok Phyllis, I made pot pie tonight and used your crust recipe. Hubs is so excited he's decided he wants to get married all over again ;) lol and he used say it was my fried chicken he married me for. Thank you sweet lady! You sure have made MY lil family happy since I started watching a few months back!
In case you get fan mail in Heaven, we have been making this crust for years- and will continue to reference your videos every time! Love you lady! What a blessing to have you at His table! 💗💗
Hi Phyllis! I'm a 53 y/o last of 5 kids and my mother is 87 and since she hasn't been able to make make pies in a long time, I took it upon my self a few years back, to attempt to make pie crusts just as she did because my other siblings would let alone buy pilsbury! These aren't bad in a pinch but NOTHING like your recipe! Lately, since mom is getting up there in age, I decided to make some of her old "creature comforts". And last week I made your Lemon Meringue pie, and she looked me straight in the eye.."David, that is THE best pie you've ever baked".. Mom has always politely complimented my pies even when the crust became a brick! lol... But this recipe is now my go to for consistently perfect crust everytime!

I had to write to let you know... Now that Thanksgiving and Christmas diners are history. I used this recipe AND Julia Child's pie crust recipe for my holiday pies. THIS RECIPE BEATS JULIA CHILDS' HANDS DOWN !!! Everyone agreed that Phyllis is THE QUEEN OF PIE CRUSTS ❤️
I love, love, love your videos..I never ever thought of doing my pie crust that way. it's perfect.. I always used extra flour and it was never flaky. Thank you so much. I'm so grateful I found your videos. God Bless
Hi Phyllis: Thank you for your easy directions. I have watched about 10 videos on how to make pie crust and yours is the best. Simple, easy and delicious. You are wonderful to share this recipe with everyone. Marie
Hello Phyllis My mom is and was not a baker. I'm 61 years young and I have NEVER been able to make a pie crust that didn't frustrate me, taste good or look good. I gave up years ago. Then I found you. You Tube has been such a wonderful resource. It's like standing next to you in your kitchen (like I would have if my mom baked) and watching you make your pie crust. I get to hear you tell me, "Now, do this." OR "Don't do that!" Precious insider information. Well, I just pulled my apple pie out of the oven and it is SO beautiful it brought me to tears! I wish I could upload a photo so you could see what a good teacher you are. Thank you so very much for what you do.
Thank you, Phyllis Stokes! I've been trying to make a pie crust for 20 years without much success. This is a FANTASTIC recipe for a perfect pumpkin pie crust. Much obliged!
LOVE this recipe for pie crust Phyllis !! So glad RUclips recommended your channel to me ! I enjoy all of your videos very much, and am so glad you are willing to share not only your recipes, but frugal tips, too !!
Phyllis, I tried this pie crust last night. I couldn't believe how easy it was and how well it rolled out. It tastes good too! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe!
I do wish you good luck. Plastic wrap is the best thing that ever happened to pie crust. I use to use wax paper before plastic wrap was available. The best part is no flour mess everywhere. Thanks for watching and making a comment. Phyllis
You are simply amazing! I struggled with pie crust (and fudge) until I came across your site. You really need a tv show! :-) Thanks for making it so easy to learn. My partner is delighted that I can make something new for him to lick the spoon and pot! I wish you longevity my friend. Brightest blessings.
YAY! This was my mom's recipe too, and when I made, it turned oouut hard as a rock..so tough!!! ...Phyllis makes it look easy!! I usually make a butter type crust that uses butter and cream cheese...mixed in cuisinart.
Used your pie crust recipe for an Apple Pie I made today. Best pie crust I have tasted and so easy to make. Using the plastic wrap is a life saver transferring dough to pie plate. No added flour or mess. I have never been successful making a crust until today,so much better tasting than Pillsbury. Thank you for sharing.
Mrs Phyllis You make Perfect Pie Crust! You don't even use a boarder tool you do everything with your own hands. How you and My Mother can do that stuff is beyond me :) I do enjoy watching you make pie crust, it reminds me of My Mother, You have tons of patience Mother didn't have much a little not a lot. You make Everything you do look easy, Oh Lord have mercy I don't watch your sewing video's anymore Oh No Ma'am, umm hum no way, I can't use a Machine if I had to save our Life,, and my Mother was a Professional Dress Maker. I got short changed somehow LOL. God Bless You and My Bucky! Tell him We Miss him with You on the Channel. We really do. :(
Miss Phyllis, I really like your method of making pie crust. The plastic wrap idea is great. It's never too late to learn something new. Many Thanks!!! Sally A.
I know you are in heaven but I am still learning from you. I am 59 years old and always bought my pie crust. There is nothing wrong with that but I wanted a great pie crust. This recipe makes a delicious pie. Thank you for all your videos and you taught me that "you are never too old to learn". I miss you friend. Your son is doing a great job doing the videos. Thank you again. May you rest in peace with The Lord and Bucky and your daughter.
You’re the first one that does a pie crust recipe with Saran Wrap. out of all the ones I’ve seen that make homemade pie crust you’re the one l’m going to try. Thanks for your Tutorial 🇨🇦
THANK YOU...THIS RECIPE IS OUTRAGEOUSLY WONDERFUL!!! I have been making pie crust for years, but NEVER ever heard of putting an egg yolk into the ice water. OMG...it holds the dough together wonderfully. I also, like the idea of the plastic wrap. I didn't have any, but used wax paper with much success. It was the BEST AND MOST PERFECT CRUST that I have ever made in the the 45 years I have been baking crusts!!!! NO MESSY clean-up too...YEA! THANK YOU.
Hi, want to thank you so much for your video. For years I have been trying to make pie crust an never seem to get it right but today I gave it another try and yep I got it. Figured out I was making it harder than it had to be an after watching your video and using your recipe I did it, was very proud of myself and wanted to thank you for the videos your the best. 😀
Thank you so much Phyllis for this recipe and the PLASTIC WRAP is a game changer. Love your videos and all your recipes. Praying for your full recovery and for comfort during this very difficult time. Love you....
Have made the same pie crust for years and years with flour, salt, water, Crisco and rolling in flour. Yours looks wonderful. Looking forward to making my next pie very soon so I can use your recipe. Just love your website. You remind me and my sister of our mom's wonderful southern cooking and love your videos with such ease of directions. Thank you for your wonderful recipes. No fancy ingredients you have to run to a big city to try and find. Just ingredients you can find in little towns like ours. Love the way you roll it on plastic wrap and not using flour. Looks like it makes it so easy to handle and lift and put in glass dish (I have one like that and it is super) and so moist without rolling in flour and drying it out. Thank you.
Mr. Bucky's mom did the same thing and he always remembers that as something very special she did for her sons. Great memories, thanks for your comment.
got a better tip for the saran wrap when ya go grocery shopping get a few extra bags that are used for the fresh veggies to be put in when shopping and just trim the bottom and cut along one side and those last longer and are bigger than the saran wrap!! that what i did and it works great ...by the way this is an amazing recipe for crust this is my go to pie crust now i love it thank you sooo much!!!
1 1/3 C flour 1/2 teaspoon "t" salt 1 egg yolk. (we don't use egg in our regular Pie crust but it is fine helps it hold together easier) 3 Tablespoons ice water 1/2 C shortening (I use Coconut Oil or a mix of Coconut Oil and Crisco) b/c veg shortening is so unhealthy due to modifying for shelf life (old Shortening was lard and coconut oil and it is literally less harmful) Continue to appreciate this lady's talents in culinary creations. 💫❤💫 Go grant Eternal positive energy blessings for Phyllis. ❤
Miss Phyllis, Thank you for making an easy to follow homemade pie crust recipe. I've been wanting to make a homemade crust for a while but I've always been too afraid because I thought it was a lot more involved than this. With your easy to follow instructions and plastic wrap trick I'm going to give it a go. Wish me luck! :)
I had to watch this again tonight because I'm making apple pie and this was the easiest pie crust that I know taste good and easy to make, thank you for keeping the video up
Made this pie crust today as your instructions and it turned out beautiful :-)) What I like about it is its a real nice crust and you have lots of dough when you roll it out which is great for making the pie shell look as good as it tastes. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video Phyllis! I usually buy the "Pillsbury" pie crust that is packaged in the red box. Today, I found my mom's greasy 1965 "Crisco" pie crust recipe (that was probably on the can) and I thought I would give it another try. My pie crust that I have made in the pass was either crumbly, would fall apart when I tried to place it in the pie dish. I think I didn't add enough water. I noticed that you added an egg in your dough. Does the egg help in binding the dough? I noticed in my mom's recipe, she also added an egg as well. Watching you work the shortening and the flour with your fingers brings back memories of my mom making biscuits and pie crusts. This was years before the advent of food processors . Living in the South on a farm, my grandma used lard in her baking and frying instead of shortening. Thanks again for posting this video, along with your tips. Wish me luck :-) Happy Holidays! John
+Johnston6999 The egg will definitely help hold the crust together. I tried a crust with coconut oil on a video recently and it turned out fantastic. I actually like the crust better than the filling and that's a real first for me. With that crust you don't need to use an egg just the flour, coconut oil, salt and ice water. With the coconut oil it's all about the temperature of the coconut oil. I used that type crust on the video of almond chess pie last week.
Thank you so kindly Phyllis for this wonderful crust recipe I use it all the time. I always reference back to this video because I enjoy listening to you on how to put it all together. You're truly an Angel and the blessing from heaven. God bless you and your wonderful husband and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. From our family to your family God bless you and have a blessed Thanksgiving.
I am making a pie crust for the first time this year. I was so happy to find your video, you make it look so easy!! I'm also going to try out your Buttermilk Chess Pie recipe, it looks so yummy!!! Can't wait to see more of your videos so I subscribed to your channel!! Happy Cooking!!😊

Very lovely Phyllis I've tryed other pie crust and they never turn out right and there really messy. Can't wait to try your's. Hope you are doing better darlin I always keep you in my prayers.....God bless 🙏
Thank you Phyllis for so many wonderful recipes . I just made a pecan pie using this pie crust recipe. It turned out amazing. I enjoy your all your videos. Thank you !!!
Hello Phyllis, just ran into your channel while searching for recipes and I LOVE IT! While watching your videos, I had some questions pop up in my mind and 10 seconds later, they were answered. Thanks for sharing your recipes and tips. Sending love from France.
I am 64 and just made my first ever pie crust. Ha. I am loving your channel. It is a little ragged around the edges, but I think looks pretty darn good for a first effort.
Yes, 1994 abbygirl, we have sweet potatoes year round. North Carolina is the largest producer of sweet potatoes and we're just south of them. Sweet potatoes are a warm weather crop but are stored for year round use. I'm puzzled as to why you can't purchase them year round in Utah. I know that yams are not really available except in specialty grocery store in this country. I think people get yams and sweet potatoes mixed up. Thanks for watching and making a comment.
Phyllis, I just made this crust & it was so easy putting together & rolling it out as directed, I lifted into the pie plate w/o any tares. I'm baking a lemon meringue pie.
Thanks so much for your thorough instructions. I've been determined to try once again to make my own crust. So excited to try this recipe TOMORROW! Can you tell me though how to keep my crust from soaking up moisture
You can bake the crust for just a few minutes before adding the filling, this helps to prevent the crust from getting soggy, also after this short period of baking coat the bottom with a little butter. Others might have better ideas for keeping the crust crisp on bottom.
I just made my 2nd ever pie crust and I wish I watched your video first. the saran wrap idea is GENIUS! how come you don't chill your dough? every dang thing I've read about dough says to freeze it but... you don't seem to have any problems with your dough?
Hello Mrs Stokes. First of all I’m so thankful I stumbled onto your utube videos. I love each one of them. I was wondering if I can permanently the pie crust and freeze it for future use. God bless
Phyllis Stokes I’ve always used plastic wrap, one thing this beautiful old lady I had as a neighbour when I was a young single mum was like you and I loved her, just like my Nanna and I miss both dearly
Oh how I miss you...but we will all be gathered together again, one very glorious day! My love to your boys. You are surely making God and the angels smile.
Love sweet potato pie.. there is a difference between yams and sweet potatoes.. I love sweet potatoes.. love them with butter and salt and pepper.. but here in Utah I can only find them around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Doesthe south have them year round? Thanks
Phyllis, I’ve had so much trouble with pie crust. I’ve watched your video several times and said I think this is the ticket. It is!!!! This is the best crust out there. No extra flour, easy to roll between plastic. It is fantastic!! Unbelievable!!! I think it’s a No fail crust and I also think CRISCO is the answer. This is a keeper😂 I do have a question, I watched 2 of your pie crust recipes. One was with 1 Tbls sugar and the other none. Does it matter? Do you precook for pumpkin pie??
This looks like a nice crust.I like the idea of using the plastic wrap I have used wax paper but it sticks sometimes.going to give this one a try, thank you :-)

Ms. Phyllis you make making a pie crust look easy. I will have to try this pie crust recipe. TFS

Happy holidays Phyllis! Hope you’re doing well! I’m here to use your recipe for the umpteenth year in a row! Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I just sent you a note asking for a pie crust recipe! I FOUND IT! THANK YOU, MS. PHYLLIS!!!
wow , you taught me some new stuff today , now I won't make so much flour mess ..tks a lot (-:
This is the easiest, most delicious, NEVER FAIL crust EVER!!!
I miss you but thank your family son doing this video
This looks like a nice pie crust. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Phyllis, just ran into your channel while searching for recipes and I LOVE IT! While watching your videos, I had some questions pop up in my mind and 10 seconds later, they were answered. Thanks for sharing your recipes and tips.
Sending love from France.
Your pie crust looks amazing. I love watching your videos.
Best pie crust I ever made, love your videos.
Love this video. Needed help with pies.
The plastic wrap is a great idea..I made this today with no mess and no breaking..Thank You!
Thank u my beautiful lady Gbu and ur loved one's always ma'am. My utmost respect and admiration
This is wonderful ! I have made a mess too many times. What a great tip ! I am subscribing.
I just made my 2nd ever pie crust and I wish I watched your video first. the saran wrap idea is GENIUS! how come you don't chill your dough? every dang thing I've read about dough says to freeze it but... you don't seem to have any problems with your dough?
+Talia Louise Carmella Karaberis I have found that when the dough is chilled it is much harder to roll out.
Hello Mrs Stokes. First of all I’m so thankful I stumbled onto your utube videos. I love each one of them. I was wondering if I can permanently the pie crust and freeze it for future use. God bless
I meant pre make. Sorry
Phyllis Stokes I’ve always used plastic wrap, one thing this beautiful old lady I had as a neighbour when I was a young single mum was like you and I loved her, just like my Nanna and I miss both dearly
Thank for recipe .
I miss Miss Phyllis! I'm still cooking away with her! Awesome podcasts
Super crust! Love it for my children and grand.

Thanks
So nice to follow you .
This is my go to pie crust it also works great for my cobblers.
easy peasy love it
thanks phyllis you make it look so easy!!
Thank you Phyllis 🌻
Phyllis, I’ve had so much trouble with pie crust. I’ve watched your video several times and said I think this is the ticket. It is!!!!
This is the best crust out there. No extra flour, easy to roll between plastic. It is fantastic!! Unbelievable!!! I think it’s a No fail crust and I also think CRISCO is the answer.
This is a keeper😂
I do have a question, I watched 2 of your pie crust recipes. One was with 1 Tbls sugar and the other none. Does it matter? Do you precook for pumpkin pie??
Thank you Phyllis
You make it look so easy,💙
Simple recipe thanks for sharing
This looks like a nice crust.I like the idea of using the plastic wrap I have used wax paper but it sticks sometimes.going to give this one a try, thank you :-)
