I feel the same exact way, I always loved this game but when it came out I couldn't comprehend it, I just thought raziel looked cool as fuck and the game was fun even if I never made it far, now that I'm grown this shit is even better than I remembered, sure I loved it, but I feel I love it even more now that I can digest it all and can get past the first couple bosses lol

At 59:00 that is some of the best protagonist and antagonist dialogue ever. The game has you sympathize with Raziel and walk the path of vengeance with him. Only to discover what Kaine did was not born of jealousy and fear, but setting you on the road to your greater destiny. They don't make em like this anymore
22 years later and the FMV opening is still solid, it may appear as an extra effort but this was beyond anything at its time : Look for Tomb Raider FMV's to realize plainly how Soul Reaver is revolutionnary

I have to say - back in the day, the graphics were good for the times, and albeit they look dated today - No other game would get away with leaving the player on a cliff-hanger story wise like Legacy of Kain did. People love[d] the story, were hungry for the next installment and there was never any doubt that it would come. If any other game these days tried to leave you on a cliff hanger for the next sequel - I think they would get poor reviews - Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver was unique in that regards that it thrust you into that time portal and there was always the promise that you would get a conclusion eventually and you would find it satisfying - and the same for Soul Reaver 2 - there was that promise of a story conclusion of sorts.
And to think that there was no internet back then, yet I hunted all the art work I could find in anime and game conventions, now all lost. I'm glad I get to see this video, it brings so much nostalgia.
That look on Kain's face when Raziel first unfurls his wings. When I first played this game when it came out, it looked like anger and jelousy. Once you know the story, you recognize it for what it really is. Recognition. That the moment that will ultimately set them down the path of their destiny has finally come. And maybe a bit of resignation at knowing what he has to do. Such a great scene to look back on after the fact.
It also makes sense when they threw him into the abyss. Kain looking out wasn't 'making sure nobody could see what they were doing' which is what it seemed like, but then you realize, the powerful kain whom also has the soul reaver wouldn't care if anybody came since he could kill them easily. No you realize he just couldn't watch them throw one of his greatest disciplies down the pit knowing the horror he was about to face.
It always took me forever to complete any of the legacy of kain series games, but i loved every moment of it, games are not made like they used to, you can just see the love and passion that went in to every aspect of this game, kids today do not know what real games are anymore
This is the perfect Souls Like, dark and gothic atmosphere, epic boss battles with unic mechanics, amazing interconect world. A Soul Reaver Remake would be a gem if in the hands of FromSoftware!

Well done, it was like watching a movie. There was a cutscene missing: when you first encounter Dumah, if you switch to the spectral realm before freeing him his soul talks to Raziel.
I still remember a funny article talking about how dumb the lieutenants all were for living in rooms that could basically kill them. Melchiah with the meat grinder, Zephon leaving the human with the torch right by his door, Rahab in a room with windows, and Dumah with a giant oven. Yes, the creators had to give players a way to beat the bosses, but it was still hilarious to see.
I got to the flooded temple and got stuck. I'll be sure to look up a guide for the rest of the game and play through it my self but I just want the rest of the story at this point. Its a great game, probably the best written and voice acted game ever made,but its also one of the most frustrating when you have no idea what to do next.
I honestly can't find any flaws in thia game other it should've been made in current times. Even still with limited technology it was done flawlessly. From the story telling to the soundtrack and the voice acting is nothing short of a masterpiece. It all comes down to one word...EPIC
This game would could never be made now. All the new games seem to be more about playing online or dlc. They don't care about good stories anymore. It also is to tedious for the modern gamers. The story kept you playing when the puzzles were difficult.

They worked on a game in 2015, but it was cancelled. There was also a multiplayer version of the same game released in 2015 but was also cancelled/shut down in the same year.

Wayyyyy better graphics, no change to voices, dialogues, just better graphics, smoother gameplay and a few new mechanics.

You should look up Blood Omen 1 & 2 they’re games where you play as Kain and it goes in to his story they’re equally as good as Soul Reaver is
The level design in this game is also pretty cool. The murals of the empire that Kain built and constructed around the worship of vampires.
