As long as you have the firmware up to date (done in big picture mode) to enable the Bluetooth pairing, it beautifully connects and is configurable on a Steamdeck. It's pretty much perfect for when you have it docked and are sitting on a couch. Also I think you may have missed the very best feature, gyro aiming. Connect it to a Steamdeck, install and play Doom 2016 with the gyro aim control configuration and you'll realize how increasable it is. Easily 85% as good as a mouse without a desk surface. It's so good in fact I'll never buy another controller without gyro aiming.
I'll have to try it. I do really like Gyro aiming since I do play Splatoon with Gyro.
I was using it to control my windows gaming machine, with windows shortcuts and such. It worked great until steam changed layout.
Honestly this controller seems really good, and the plans Valve had for the Steam Machine was really good, but both this and the Steam Machine made way for much better implementations into Steam itself, and/or better hardware a long ways down the road.
The Steam Deck is part of the "hardware" that Valve basically got the lessons learned from this like you said.
Steam Input is also a good part of that functionality as well, basically letting you use any controller and customize it as much as you can customize the Steam controller when it first came out.
One major issue I personally had pre-8th gen consoles was controller compatibility was awful. DS3s required extra software but had a more standardized port to them, and Xbox had a proprietary port, but technically worked out of the box with PC. Xbox One and PS4 controllers started bridging the gap of using the controllers that came with your console on PC. (although the DS4 had the same issues and still tend to do in anything outside of Steam.)
Now with this Current generation, controllers are plentiful and come in all shapes and sizes, making it easier to be able to use these controllers on PC.
I'm glad for what this controller did, and heavily respect for what it was able to push for PC gaming.
I wish I was able to buy one for non-inflated prices on the second hand market, but I didn't have a job at the time of their big inventory clear out.
Great video though! Short and simple without bloating the video with outside opinion on the controller and keeping on point about your own personal opinion on the controller.

I do hope they make a new version of the Steam Controller that has the same button layout to the Steam Deck with some ergonomic changes
I do hope they keep that unique shape, mostly because it just looks unique compared to the many other samey controllers
I wish I got the Steam Controller, sadly it's sold for such a high price and I'm saddened about that
im glad i got one, it has it's uses and in spite of it's looks the reverse contour it has when compared to PS or Xbox controllers is remarkably comfortable and it's haptics they still stand up today.
it has aged well.

When I started playing the Steam Deck docked, I felt that the PS4 controller wasn't a alternative to the Steam Deck's native controller. That led me to purchase an used Steam Controller. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased a second controller.
I always use the Steam Controller when I play Borderlands 2-3 with friends. It's one of the best controllers for FPS/TPS games.
This is the only controller I use on PC I can't go back to duel sticks it just feels so sluggish and slow I have so much more precision with the touch pads and add the gyro on top and its so good playing FPS and character action games The only way genre I just haven't been able to get used to playing with it is platformers But that's a me thing not the controller as if you look up a RUclips channel called mennith they've shown some great hollow knight gameplay speedrunning the path of pain using both trackpads
Great video btw Just one more thing I don't know if you know but one of the things missing on the steam deck is the steam controller's dual stage triggers which is a real shame as i love binding say aiming your gun in Resident Evil 4 when you sort press and pulling out your knife when you full press its so convenient

When I lost my gaming enthusiasm after 2010. Steam controller came and made me appreciate gaming again. But I used it only for fps games. Great was that I could set it to work with my new and old games to. Call of duty 2,first Crysis, or battlefield 1,new doom. Whatever I throw on it I was able to play after little bit of tinkering aka finding best ways to control the game. Allot of the times it wasn't obvious one.
I love this thing cuz I got it for $5 new during the blowout sale Valve had when it was discontinued and sold it for $120 3 years later 😂
(I did open it and try it for 20 hours or so over a week, it was neat but I it just didn’t click with me so it went on a shelf for years)

I have two of these I got during that sale, though I can’t exactly remember if I already had one. I really like them and the idea of them but they’ve always been a hard to get into because of how much configuration they require that’s more or less forced because of the lack of a second analogue stick unlike with the Steam Deck.
Agreed. It does take a long time to get comfortable with it. lot's of tweaking especially with pc games that don't support controller
I just can't get it to work with my steamdeck and diablo 4... joystick and buttons don't work in game but works fine in the operating system.... 😑
@@SuperLintendo64I remember that when I started love possibilities of SC than I started hate game developers. Because most powerful think about SC is using analog stick for movement and trackpad+gyro aka mouse like precision aiming in one package. But alot of games don't supported mouse aiming and stick analog movements at the same time.
Ha I got 1 durring that sale. $5 I wanted to buy more 😂. I just found the dongle and plugged it in. Worked on boot password screen as mouse automatic 💪🏽

I recentlt got a steamdeck oled... and the next day I gound a steam controller in the local electronics bin....
It works fine in the menus, but when I open diablo 4 the joystik and 4 buttons doesn't work and I can't get it to connect via bluetooth (I couldn't find the dongle, so I have to cable it...
Does anyone here have tips as what might be wrong?😅
Not sure, you may need to get replacement parts for it and open it up or just buy a working one from eBay
I could be wrong but the cable is for data transfer like firmware updates not to use it. No dongle means u need to use the cable to update firmware. Then it should connect and work via Bluetooth. Unless it’s broken
