Well, for the rear suspension I would suggest shifting shock mounts to front or to back (so that shocks are not vertically positioned). This will save articulation
Thats a very good idea. I bought one of those FMS 1950 F1 pickup trucks. They did the lay down shock thing under the bed and it works surprisingly good, (For an FMS shelf queen)!
I have the Chevy High Trail ,put 58 mm tires on it ,and metal shocks ,new wheels,6mm Wheel spacers, black diff. covers .Got rid of the roll bar and the inside part of the bed. Used a piece of black styrene for a Tonneau cover, much lighter also. Keep up the Great Vids!
When I first saw it, I knew it had to be lowered and lose the roll bar (personal choice) came looking for a vid how you do it.. thanks for the post! Made my day, time to get to work on it!
I have that exact same truck...... just got it 2 weeks ago and it's my first foray into the hobby rc space and I can't imagine wanting to lower it. I specifically payed another 30 bucks for a high trail edition for the extra lift when I was really eyeing the new bronco. However to each thier own but I gotta say those old f-150s look so good! And I did get mine at my local hobby shop to support local businesses as I myself am a small business owner. Enjoyed the video 💯
I bought my black F150 a month ago, and love it just the way it is. I truck around the house, my two dogs don’t really know what to think about it. Was planning on loading up some pupperoni or beggin strips and do the pied piper thing. Still waiting for that perfect amount of powdery snow to see what she’s made of.❤
I got 2 of these for my wife and I, both black, one Chevy one Ford. I put basic upgrades on, bearings/low gears/beadlocks and tires. We are having a blast with them, even without heavy upgrades or added weight.
I like both trucks, BUT the Ford does look better, by a long shot. They( Traxxas ) did an amazing job on the wheels, grill, bumpers, and the chrome accents.
I'm a low trail kinda guy! Mine will get the low treatment! So glad to see these mini's in an old school 70's truck body! Take's me back to the better days! Great job on the conversion Matt!!!!
I had a spare TQi kicking around with the blutooth module (from my dts1 drag tree that i stopped using over a year ago) and this alone gives you much more to play with alone.
My wife bought me the blue f-150 trx-4m for Christmas and it's my first Traxxas rc and my first anything but 1:10 scale rc lol but I love it just how it is , I might get the 2 optional transmission gear sets just to be able to play with that a little but I love it just how it is . I grew up with old ford's and this is basically my dream truck in a full sized version lol but for now it's 1:16 scale for the win 🏆 😅 😂
You are taking about the best body style truck that anybody anywhere ever made. Its clean lines elegance and it says work all over it. Covered in mud or shined up it says truck. All size tires seem to fit and look right for some reason...
You didnt ruin it at all its Exactly what im doing with mine i got monster trucks crawlers this however is going to be pulling my trailer 👍great video 💯
It looks like you could flip around and relocate the rear shock tower to the farthest forward holes and get close to the same height as the front without losing travel..
I forgot to comment on this video... Woops. Part of me loves these little trucks. Reminds me of playing with micro machines as a kid... almost 30byears ago... yeah... I know.. I'm not that old... haha. But... I also struggle working on them.. the whole blind thing... But I still love seeing all the new versions. Traxxas is really doing some amazing work woth these. Just need an interior.... Come on Traxxas. Who cares the sice. They need drivers hahaha Great video man.
Please keep going with the F150 trx4m. I welcome any ideas to make it look as scale as possible with the lights and weathering it. I’m looking for videos on how to age it. @@scalebuildersguild
Hello good morning. I believe lowering it males it perform better ND overall look awesome. I didn't remove the towers I just removed all the springs on each corner making the truck level. Removed the 6 lug wheel, 79 ford's especially f150 were 5 lug and added smaller tires. Also removed the roll bar
Who saw that F-150 coming? I got the big F-150 so I guest I got to get the M version. I do want to make my Land Rover a high trail I think it would be cool✌🏽
What can I say, other than: Traxxas - You should listen to Matt here! Watch his Traxxas reviews - Straight axle TRX-4 options for ride heights and more. Great mods, but as mentioned by another, try moving the shock towers to maintain most of the shock travel. Anyway it looks great lowered a bit!
@@scalebuildersguild I get it, I was thinking of a mounting point further forward. It would lay down the shock but give you more travel. It might be too soft but just throwing ideas out there 👍
I don’t have a High Trail yet. I will get the root beer F150. I used to know the Ford name of that color, but sorry I have had too many birthdays. I own an original first shipped, demo, not for sale Trx4m blue Bronco original box & everything. Since I can’t leave things alone I did all kinds of stuff to it. And finally turned it into a Injora Tarantula and was happy with that. But then I kept looking at the left over parts to my special early Trx4m. I felt bad I took it apart. So I bought new parts and rebuilt it. Completely STOCK! Now I have two😮 So when I buy my F150 High Trail I ain’t changing a thing. Thats my answer 🤓 BTW I wish I had the eye you have when you scale build your models. Keep up the great work with your own unique twists!
Love the idiosyncracy of a lowered high trail! Hey so what about the light bar? Assume trx will offer in the same style? Will u diy one? Also: crazy light bleed from the stock headlights, how would you solve?
I’ve seen another video where the guy flipped the escalator and mounted it further forward to angle the upper shock mounts forward - would this lower the rear enough to match the front drop?
I just got my K10 high trail and thought about doing this, but I'll need to get out and drive it stock first to see how it is compared to regular TRX-4. I do prefer the chevy even if chrome on it is stickers
does any one know if there is a more durable replacement option for mirrors with this truck? unfortunately mine broke within the first couple hours of driving after 1 or 2 minor tumbles...
@@scalebuildersguild tenth scale version is metallic blue and gorgeous. Wondering if 1/18th will be the same or will be molded blue like the 1/18th bronco

Some of us don't have a local hobby shop to support.
I'm in that club
My preferred hobby shop is 2 hours away from me
i have one but he ain’t worth supporting 😂
I finally have one an hour away. I buy almost everything from them just to help support him.
@longtalltexanrc3358 if I had one close by they would get most of my money 💰
Scale wise it still looks like a 4" suspension lift sitting on 33" tires
Well, for the rear suspension I would suggest shifting shock mounts to front or to back (so that shocks are not vertically positioned). This will save articulation
Thats a very good idea. I bought one of those
FMS 1950 F1 pickup trucks. They did the lay down shock thing under the bed and it works surprisingly good, (For an FMS shelf queen)!
If I wanted to save articulation, I’d keep it a High Trail! 😉
To get full articulation in back shock, all you had to do is dremel the top plastic off the Bronco shock tower...Works perfect.
And if I wanted to do that, I would have! Thanks!

Yeah I agree. I’m more of a Chevy truck guy but that Ford just looks gorgeous. I made a high trail out of my SCX24 C10 but this is so tempting to get.
I did the low trail conversion by cutting up the body. Gonna do the fuel tube mod next time. Thnx for reminding me again of that possibility
Perfection!! Traxxas need to run the scale design configurations by you before final release of new products! 🔥🔥
Don’t do that. The trx4 m high trail is equivalent to the old ford “high boys” but he thinks that’s not “very scale”.
Simple answer is yes. Thanks for sharing a simple way of doing it without cutting.
Glad it was helpful!
I like both trucks, BUT the Ford does look better, by a long shot.

5:31 those are the tires that came on the bronco and for my experience those are terrible at doing rock crawling, but for trail use they do just fine

Imagine this with the high speed gears and the 1/24 Jconcepts Fling Kings that are coming out. It would be a sweet mud truck.
I would get an aftermarket shock set and lower springs until it sags. Then, put in a limiter strap to keep it from over extending.
Could you post a link for the tires or the part number for them?
I love the lower look. I did this with the Cheyenne. removed the springs. prior to seeing this video lol

I was just asking someone on a different video how hard this would be to do thanks for this video know I know the exact way to bring that cg down 🙌
Glad I could help!
Much much more scaled indeed. I'm down.
Maybe I should also try high-trailing the regular TRX-4m Bronco and see if there's any performance gain.
Looks great, I'm sure it will perform great! Maybe 3d print a shock tower for the back so, no need to reduce travel?
Can't go any higher, as the bed is resting right up against the stock towers, which is why I did what I did! ;)
@@scalebuildersguild I get it, I was thinking of a mounting point further forward. It would lay down the shock but give you more travel. It might be too soft but just throwing ideas out there 👍
BFG comes on the bronco. Canyon comes on the defender. Would assume the standard Baja pro x not the xs and get the same effect with better grip.
You made it look so much better

Yep. You're right. It looks way better lowered
I love it! will there also be a crawl/trail video?
When I get the chance!
It actually looks alot better, ill do it too. Hopefully i don't ruin it
Of course YOU did it to the trx4m high trail too. That’s so “the complete opposite” of what I do on my RUclips channel. Looks good though
Thanks!
I’ve been waiting for this!!!! My hobby store told me about this around 2 months ago and I’ve been so excited
don’t let traxxas find out who your buddy is.
I love the black also, I actually owned that truck years ago. I may lower it at some point but it will stay high for a while maybe for good 😎
I life it look so cool with the gold
I’ve seen another video where the guy flipped the escalator and mounted it further forward to angle the upper shock mounts forward - would this lower the rear enough to match the front drop?
Not likely, no. Plus, you'd have a really weird amount of rear flexibility still.
You rock!

Nope, too tall still.
Yes sir you are right. I tried it and though the body was able to snap on it was still touching and also pinching the battery wire.
Love is as a low trail!
Wouldn't angling the rear shocks solve the problem?
You’d have to move the entire ESC assembly forward, but sure. I intentionally made it have less travel but you could do this.
