Thanks very much 👍 I like the body, but found it a bit annoying to use, especially how bindy the drive train is. I tried to mud it on the weekend and it was useless! 🤣🤦
@@DoURC My steering started binding badly too after my first deep water crossing. Took out the front axle shafts, cleaned it out, and lubed up the ball part with grease, and then oiled the bushings. more or less solved the issue for me, good luck!
My son & I just got a pair of these. We love them & aren’t having any issues. I personally think it’s a fantastic all around truck. Don’t think you could ask much more from the size that it is. Only thing I’m thinking of doing is weigh inserts (maybe copper barrels) in the wheels. Two trucks & four batteries for a great father/ son day out. Highly recommend these trucks.
I just bought one and I love it. My 2 year old also loves it. It's durable enough for him and the way it climbs is incredible. $185 after tax is a little steep for a 1/18th but I was tired of going through amazon rc cars for $25 a piece and them only lasting a couple days.
@veightrwd8828 Yeah definitely. If you get it, fit the low range gears, as I find it a very frustrating rig stock due to the rubbish slow speed control. 👍
Replacing the Micky Thompson tires with the BF Goodrich tires (9771) from the Bronco will lower the truck by 0.23 inches / 5.84 mm and lower the gear ration by 10%. Small changes but in the right direction and they do help. Less bounce from the BF Goodrich tires too.
Nice review mate i just got mine yesterday i waited around for the brown version which is beautiful btw its a very nice brown color these are not crawlers mate they are full blown trail rigs and thats how we should use em i rock crawled with mine with full upgrades and brass and it does seem to stay more planted than it is stock and it doesn't tip over as easily u really gotta crack that turn hard for it to tip once u get all the metal gearing bearings and brass it should stay more planted and handle better in trailing situations 👍
Thanks very much 👍 Yeah I get its meant to be a trail truck, but tbh even for that out the box it's not great. I tried to take it for a mud run on Saturday and it was pretty much useless tbh. I know I'll need to upgrade it, that's why I bought it, but out the box it's a bit pants tbh, especially considering the price! 🤦
They did that because some people like to trail run the truck which arguably is what it is for, not rock crawling. So in that case you want some speed. For those who want to crawl spend the 5 bucks for the lower gear. The new brushless system that just came out will have the best of both worlds.
But even as a trail truck it's not great. You still need to go over obstacles on the trail. It needs a better ESC really. Tbh there are better RC's out there for the money imo. 👍 Also cheaper brushless systems out there you could fit too, although you can retain the transmitter with the Traxxas one, which may be a plus point for some people. 👍
Follow up to this, even with Furitek brushless this truck needs lower gearing if you are going to rock crawl it to reduce the cogging and keep the motor temps down.
Yeah you can fit the low range gears. If you look in my Mini Crawlers playlist, I've a guide on doing it on the TRX4M Defender, which is the same gearbox. Got a mega mud truck build on this one too. 👍
@@DoURC yeah I just wondered if the fenders etc look a little bit goofy because of the little differences in dimensions however I checked after writing that comment and the price is 70 dollars just for the painted Ford body so forget it because it doesn't worth. Typical Traxxas meh The body looks really fascinating though Thx for the answer still :)
Good honest review. I have really liked my TRX4M. I also really like the look of high trail version. But at that price there is some very stiff competition with many more features. Thanks for a great video. 👍
Thanks very much 👍 Yeah I wanted to really like it and love the body, but the out the box performance isn't great, especially considering the price and the brand. Traxxas could have done such a better job imo. They call it the High Trail, but tbh it still experiences a lot of the normal trx4m ground clearance issues. With upgrades I'm sure it'll be much better, but there's 100% better rtr's on the market for less money. 👍
Got the trx4 f150 for xmess. Thinking about a smaller rig as well. Not overly sold on the quality off the trx4m. What others do you feel has better gear for approx same cost?
@stevelockhart1648 Yeah there's such a difference between the trx4 and trx4m. Such a shame they didn't put the same effort into the trx4m. I'd recommend either the FCX18 or FCX24, both much better performance and value for money. I have comparison videos in my Mini Crawlers playlist. 👍
Think the FCX18 would walk all over it tbh, as it did the trx4m Defender. From a performance point of view, the high trail is worse as its got an even higher centre of gravity. 👍 I'd definitely pick the FCX18 over this, even with it modified in its current Mega Truck form. 👍
@@DoURC ooh see I like the k5 blazer by Fms. I have the fcx18 lc80. I've always wanted a trx but the big ones are extremely pricey 😆 so once I found out about these I was like that might do to scratch the trx itch 😆

Yeah it's not the best tbh, definitely better performing and better value for money rigs out there. 👍 Traxxas have released a brushless system now you could add as an upgrade. Probably be better to just use an aftermarket one though. 👍
I hate their proprietary batteries, it`s the crApple way of making things, reason enough to stay away. You basically get ZERO options as far as batteries and chargers, what`s next? Proprietary places to run the model? Same goes for Axial and their Spectrum stuff, it looks consumers out of making their own choices and replaces said options with far more expensive items. Not that Spectrum is bad, but if I literally pay twice the money for a battery that performs the same, but with some "smart charging" nonsense, I don`t want it. I want options, and american manufacturers don`t want you to have options, they want to sell you THEIR ecosystem and give the consumer, NO options, which is absolute BS. More money to CHINA TraxxASS ;)
Yeah one of my mirrors was broken off in the box, had to glue it back on. 👍 I was quite disappointed tbh, there's much better RC'S available for less money. 👍

I’m planning to get one of these, and I’ll probably buy the crawling transmission and just switch it out depending on what I’m doing.
