12:30 fun fact, these stock car races were once “retuning player exclusive”, meaning only people who played GTA v on the ps3/x360 got to play them. I remember giving my ps account to some random dude to unlock these bonus content for me lol. You got the duke o death, the space docker and some more free stuff and in GTA online too. Was worth the risk of losing my account to younger me :p
The reason why everyone has these bonuses now is because rockstar messed up and lost the list of people who were eligible as a “returning player” so they just activated it for everyone lmao. This is the update you’re talking about :p

@@Neopumper666 I was on the x360 with GTAV for a few years before the PC version came out. In the last year there were a load of hackers and sometimes we would randomly get a huge money drop. So although I hated Rockstar for having me buy the same game twice, they did improve the graphics loads and in all my time on PC money was never really an object, even after Rockstar made everything in the game extremely overpriced compared to the rewards. Luckily so because if I was forced into the grind I would have given up the game years before I did.

Open world games almost always feature arcade-y handling models because usually those games allow players to use weapons while driving so the handling models usually don't have a lot of depth to them to prevent frustration (imagine trying to shoot a gun and reload while also having to manually shift gears and manage weight transfer and understeer/oversteer while the car itself gets damaged by AI opponents).
The only games that are the exception (that I experienced) are the first 2 Mafia games. Fun fact: the first Mafia game was originally supposed to be a driving game similar to the Driver games which is why the game has such a realistic handling model (you can play the PC version with a force feedback wheel and pedal setup) and damage model (it features real time vehicle deformation while other games during the same time period used pre-made damage models). The 2nd Mafia game features 2 driving modes: a Normal driving mode which is the default setting as it's the easiest and the best suited for firing guns while driving, and a Simulation mode which is the more in-depth handling model for when players want a more realistic and challenging driving experience.
I wish more games adopted Mafia 2's approach to driving with a simpler handling model as a default setting and a more detailed simcade-like handling model for players looking for a challenge.

    • @ericgevorkyan2814
      @ericgevorkyan2814 10 месяцев назад +15

You can't shoot while in a car in mafia 2 but you can in mafia 1 and that game actually features manual transmission in settings with it upsides and downsides, you can put a car on some slopes while in neutral or in gear and it will roll but if you press the handbrake before leaving the car, it won't. Physics in that game was ahead of it's time and that was 2001 game, same year as GTA3. Mafia 1 wasn't handicapping itself releasing mainly on consoles, this was fully a PC game and it took every available strenght from the platform, this only confirms when you look at the ps2 port of mafia 1 and how sad it is.

It's actually possible to have physics with real momentum and still have an easy to use handling model for game pad and keyboard. Take any Forza game or CarX Drift Racing Online for example. The reason these open world games have super arcadey physics is because developers and publishers think it sells better and is easier to implement. Both of those things seem highly arguable to me and I would play the shite out of a GTA game with actual momentum and half decent tire and suspension physics. Having a handling model somewhere in between CarX and Forza in GTA would be a long standing dream come true.

Almost what I thought the video was about... But me and a friend turned a Jeep driving level in the game "Vietcong" from 2003, into a hot seat time trial race.
Basically you are driving a Willy's Jeep up a Vietnamese mountain road, dodging obstacles and have the urgency of the story to contend with that is supposed to make you drive faster if my memory serves me correctly.
If you fall off the road though, it is game over, so it did lead some interesting driving styles between us two to get to the finish as quickly as possible in that Jeep.

They were only supposed to lend support to Rockstar North for vehicle physics, but were permanently retasked to the money factory at the expense of their one of the most well regarded racing IPs, kinda like what fans feared would happen to Criterion when they were reassigned to Battlefield, except since they had just released NFS Unbound, they left a small support team behind to continue on Need for Speed...

Mafia DE actually allows you to go to racing circuit and set up race with ANY vehicle in free roam mode. which is one of my favorite things to do after finishing story. If you have entire trilogy, you can get the late 1960s car for example and have a race between them.
As for original Mafia, it had racing mode in it with many tracks and even a championship, but only on PS2 version. However, mods have been made to add that to PC version too,, and they are not hard to add. And again, you can use any car. A race between 22 horsepower model T Fords is hilarious 😄
With how realistic and unforgiving driving physics are, is is also one of the most fun things to do after finishing it.

The other thing with sleeping dogs is, at least during the missions, you loose Police score by crashing into any bit of breakable infrastructure, making cutting corners or crashing very not preferable

Here's one game that is sorta part of the yakuza series, and, incorporates racing as well: Fist of the north star lost paradise. Where you have to upgrade and customize your mad max buggy and race in the wasteland. There's points to collect along the way, as well as boost power ups to help you boost more. It's fine for what it is, but I never personally got too deep into it.

Have you ever considered The World of Pooping in Games without Toilets? Or GWOTs as most people call them. Take an RPG for example your party travels all over the world in some games yet never drop a deuce. Skies of Arcadia is a great RPG except for the fact it is also a GWOT. The airships are really amazing and detailed. Especially later on when you get the Delphinus which is a prototype battleship made for the prince with heavy arm and extreme firepower. However despite the ship being all fancy and made for a member of the Royal Family there is not a single toilet on the ship. You can't tell me they really expect Prince Enrique to hang his bum over the railing and send down the Brown Moon's Rain of Destruction? That would be pretty undignified for a Prince. And that is just one game, there are so many GWOTs out there and it makes no sense. How does Max Payne make it through his journey without stopping to drop the kids off at the pool? One game that got it right was Shenmue. Even back in 1999 Sega knew that for the ultimate realism a toilet had to be seen somewhere. The only problem is that it is one of those Japanese toilets that is basically on the floor so you literally had to pop a squat. I'm fine with games not showing the characters using the toilet, I wouldn't expect the game to show that. The problem is when no toilets seem to exist anywhere in the game world! It is an interesting topic.

Glad someone else sees how interesting driving in non driving games can be. One of those games for me was surprisingly warzone. The handling of the vehicles feels so nice I rush they made a silly driving mode for it.

While GTA series isn't Midnight Club, Forza or anything like that, it's still a game that involves racing, if not is all about racing with the theft of cars and getting away from cops. It's just a different racing game.

Idk but I believe that besides some GTA games having racing, I guess even Saints Row games also have racing, like the first two games and idk I consider the Trail Blazing side activities in SR2 and SRTT as partially racing but it's a solo racing time trial, and another similar things appears in Saints Row IV but you were racing alone on foot trying to beat the desired time.

In Mafia the race was so hard because of the abrupt change in car handling and speed the player had to experience. Up until that point the player drove cars that could barely reach 50 mph on a long straight. It was slow and the game even had a button to toggle speed limiter, so the cops wouldn't bother you. In this game cops actually chased you for speeding. And here comes this mission, about 25% into the story mode, where you have about 5 minutes to drive a racing car to the chop shop and then win a legit no bullshit race. With a car that goes about 3 times as fast as anything you driven up to this point. These cars were literally the fastest in the game.

One of my al time favorites non racing games with cars is Mafia 2. For multiple reasons, the great physics make the game feel much more realistic and not many other games have cars of the 30s-50s. Its so fun speeding at a hundred mph in a gen 1 ford thunder bird down the highway, your going too fast so then you get launchd off the freeway and fall a few stories.
A game without the fun physics but still with classical and early century cars would be "The Saboteur". The game is essentially gta, in Wehrmacht France. World war two civilian, military and classic formula racers are among some of the vehicles available. Its mostly you shooting and blowing up bad guys but a good portion of the game is driving/racing based. I would definitely check out saboteur. I think its on steam now, i think it was just added recently, but i got my copy on gog.

Mafia definitive addition was easy to win the race but very difficult to have a clean run in. If you drive it realistically without crashing or hitting other cars it’s an entertaining challenge
