I really love how so many things are celebrated in your faith. Not only the celebration but the tradition and sweet intentions behind them. I just don't know if I could have waited until 3 with my boys they both had a shock of super thick, dark hair at birth. Then it went blonde and the curls came in, and it had to be cut regularly from about 5 months on. My mother used to cut it and the only problem we had was that they used to go to sleep on us, because it was so relaxing to them.
“I’m your baby, but I’m a big boy!” ❤️ How to melt a mamma’s heart in one sentence. Thanks for sharing about the upsherin. What a sweet way to make a memory.
I know this is an older video but I hadn't seen it before. I love his response "I'm you baby but I'm a big boy." 💝 My daughter who's 31 now always told me she's always be my baby no matter how old she got. Your family is lovely, Chana.
I love watching you. I love how you put sweets on the alphabet. Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good…..” Thank you for sharing your life w us❤
He can say his dog ate his first one! Funnier than eating his homework 😆. What a great sport you are to have the patience and good naturedness to just roll with it and make more. M&Ms were a great idea! Congratulations to your baby big boy.
I love traditions! This is a wonderful one. Mt daughter gave herself her first haircut.😂😂😂 I love how you called your sons babies. I have an 18 year old Marine. She may have all of that training under her belt, but she will always be my baby!
His daddy did a great job on the hair! I love that along the way there are traditional transitions for the children to take part. Always love your videos
Congratulations! The first haircut in any tradition can be emotional for all that it represents. My parents took photos of my brother's first haircut back in 1959. They are treasured memories!
I think this tradition is beautiful! I so enjoyed the little alphabet tradition where he loved the M&Ms! 🤗 I recall when I worked at The Ashkenazi Synagogue, there were familys' that attended with little boys and the changes as they grew!
Oh, honey! Just found this older video- it was so sweet! I didn't cut my son's hair until he was three, either. Not for a religious purpose; it was just beautiful and he was adorable, and I cried when we cut it. You're right- suddenly your baby is gone, and there is a big boy! *Sigh...*
What a wonderful video! I love the idea of the Upsherin tradition :) I remember taking my son to the barber shop when he was probably 7 or 8. While we were there, a Dad brought in his little boy with the most gorgeous long curls to get his first haircut. What a transformation when they walked out of the barber shop. Definitely the little boy to big boy thing. Couldn't help shedding a few tears:(
This was great. I love your sharing of your Jewish traditions with us. I had never heard of this one and it was wonderful to learn about and see your family observing it. Your husband did a great job on the final haircut!!
Your journey to becoming an Orthodox Jew reminds of a story my student told. Her mother was born in Russia. She knew that she was Jewish but had no real idea what that meant. As Sonia put it, she had to learn to be Jewish when she arrived in the US. Your journey has given me an idea of what that entails. Thank you.
I learn so much on your channel! I think this is a great tradition. My mother is hair stylist, so I had her perform my daughter's first haircut. It was very emotional for me because, growing up, my mother always cut my hair. I didn't sit in a salon chair until I was well into my 20s. I think all the family participation is beautiful. Again, as always, I love how G-d touches every part of your lives, even something like a little boy's haircut. Absolutely love your channel and love your bright, joyful energy. Thank you again, for sharing!
I am Christian and am thoroughly enjoying learning about your religion and traditions. As a Mama myself, this one made me a little teary eyed. May God bless your family.
What a lovely tradition! I love the part about the honey and the sweetness of the Torah. It's hard to cut their hair for the first time, my son had these cute little baby curls that were hard for me to let go of :)
I cut my daughters hair when she was two months old because she had a bald patch at the back of her head with her father’s beard shaving machine, and I never ever thought it was something special and much less to celebrate I just thought she looked much better. Incredible the things you explain, I not Jewish, I had a small idea about Orthodox Jews, seeing you and listening to you is like seeing another world. I am happy you are happy in it.
What a wonderful ceremony to share with your family. I have recently found your channel and I am enjoying learning about the Jewish traditions. Thank you for sharing.
I once took care of a beautiful child with the most beautiful, flowing, dark and thick hair of head. He was a right terror and nobody could keep up with him and I absolutely adored him. He would run and climb and never walk and then just come to me and stand as still as he could (which wasn’t much!! His whole body from his neck down still moved) just long enough for me to tie his hair back and out of his face and have a quick cuddle and then he was gone again. When he came in with his haircut his mom and I shared a funny moment when we both mourned his hair that was cut. In my career there’s only been a few kids that I’ve grown so attached to but he’s definitely up there and I was so sad when his family moved to Israel but they were so happy!
Wonderful! It reminds me of the time I was paying at a restaurant and a beautiful little "girl" was beside me. I complimented the child and his father said, "He's a boy. I have to get his hair cut." I felt like an idiot. Do you keep a souvenir of his first haircut? Several of my non-Jewish relatives did this. My husband had the same long curls and his Grandfather got it cut without telling anyone--or saving a piece. His mother actually cried and Grandfather was in the doghouse for a few days,.
He is so handsome!! I didn't know about the Upsherin, I just figure, to each their own with little ones hair styles ;) . I love this! I know he is proud & I know you had a little bit of heart ache at the growing up.
Thank you!!! Haha no I couldn’t wait to cut his wild hair! So much easier now! He’s definitely super proud and I can see a shift in his attitude, he knows he’s a big boy!
Mazel tov! What a sweet video. My son is turning three next month and we don’t traditionally do an upsherin in our family, but he has never had a haircut due to the pandemic!
Your channel has been extremely helpful in my own journey, all your explanations are super easy to understand and you give off a very welcoming vibe. (I'm considering beginning conversion and your channel has been very educational) I'd also like to say I think it's really awesome that you don't film your kids' faces for the channel but still include them in some ways!

I make Al my nephew ( I BH have many) that turn 3 a special tzitzit with their picture on it saying אני בן שלוש.
