    Colin makes Mega Man look so elementary. I missed out on Mega Man in my young years and jumped on the Collection as soon as it released. After dying over and over to start the level it made me realize just how good Colin is at them.

    well done Tim. Way to stick with a game and end up loving it. I fell in love with KH instantly and its one of my favorite game series of all time. As for the topic, sadly I'm not a fan of Mario games. I was a sega kid growing up and never really got into mario. I've played mario games, but i just don't share the love for it that other people have.

      +vanguardduelist I'm the opposite. I played kh1, 2, one third of bbs, and re:chain. 2 was okay, the rest were terrible.
      1 in particular just has some really ridiculous levels and doesn't tell you where to go at all.
      wonderland in particular, fuck that shit.

    For me it's The Witcher, I brought 1, it felt antiquated as hell and just... terrible(though I find most don't love that game), brought 2, I tried, I really really tried but I just couldn't deal with the combat, it was so odd. I may try 3 when it gets really cheap(I brought 1+2 on a Steam sale for probably less than $20, that's how much i'd pay for 3 since so many people love it). Also Deus Ex Machina, I was just bad at it, love stealth games but not a big fan of 1st person stealth.

      +ThatOneGuyCpr I can't get into The Witcher 3 right now either to be honest. I was so excited for that game all throughout its pre-release but during the wait I played Dragon Age Inquisition. I don't know how to put it but I basically only play 1 full-fledged RPG every year or so, but because that is literally all I can handle before getting sick of them or bored out of my mind. Right now I haven't really played much of anything lately just so when I get that urge again, it will go all to The Witcher 3.

      +ThatOneGuyCpr haha witcher 1 is my favourite game of all time :D yeah it was complicated at first to me, but i love the combat :D story so good :D

    • @PeskyCanadian
      @PeskyCanadian 8 лет назад

      +ThatOneGuyCpr If you didn't like 1 and 2, i would not recommend 3. It has improvements on the first two but those improvements make the game tighter and do not change anything substantial. It is the same but much larger.
      You sound a lot like me. I couldn't stand the combat, it felt clunky to me and unbearable. The story was great and i ended up watching my friend play the game who had the same feelings towards the gameplay but was able to play the game anyways.
      The game is great but it is just not for me and i will say it is probably the same for you. If you can demo it or try it before purchasing it, do it.

    Why does Colin keep saying MGS had tank controls? Either he doesn't understand what tank controls really are, or he's just misremembering. I just don't get why Greg isn't correcting him. Considering he's such a big Metal Gear fan, I would assume he knows that's incorrect.

    I couldn't imagine never loving Kingdom Hearts. Everything about the series grab me. The story does make sense but, you have to play all the games go on forums and use wikis to really decipher everything. GTA is a series I tried repeatedly but, could never get into for some reason.

    Right after Greg and Colin got done talking about SotC I was thinking to myself, "Damn these guys are crazy". Literally a second later Tim says, "Wow you guys are crazy" haha. I'm also surprised on Greg's take on the FF series. Given his age and how FFVII was a coming of age game for the PS1, I would have thought that he'd have at least beaten it. To each his own though. Good video guys and happy gaming.

      +Euler I'm sort of the opposite. I'm pretty late to the Metal Gear series and have been playing through all the games. I played through Ground Zeroes first when it came out and decided to go back and play the others and I really dislike the gameplay mechanics of the first 3 games (particularly 1 and 2). They are very dated as far controls. I still love the games though. The story is fantastic but when I first started playing them I really didn't like them and got easily frustrated. It was a matter of just grinding through it for a few hours until I got comfortable with the game.
      Just started Peace Walker now and I love it. Can't wait to play through Phantom Pain :)

      +Patrick Chaanin I got into the metal gear games early last year. I at first loved the first one but as I saw my brother struggling with it, I realized that this did not age well at all. Still love it but it's for nostalgia now. I think almost 40 hours into MGS V TPP it obliterates every metal gear in terms of gameplay.

    I honestly think, that the Kingdom Hearts series is specifically engineered to be played through during one's childhood. It's pretty much designed to be the ultimate nostalgia game. Let's take Star Wars for example, it's pretty much a franchise that achieved it. And the Kingdom Hearts series has numerous allusions to Star Wars, examples being the light and darkness motif, the black cloaks, Xemnas' abilities which includes having something very reminiscent to red light-sabers. The Gummi Ship mission in KH2 called Assault of the Dreadnought also has a literal Death Star in the shape of a cube instead of a sphere. You could even say Kingdom Hearts is its spiritual successor. But Stars Wars is only one thing, because it pretty much has an ensemble of the Disney Renaissance which are also a part of the childhood of many. And there's also the Final Fantasy series, FFVII specifically served as a gateway for many to their first JRPG or maybe even RPG in general.

    I grew up with Kingdom Hearts, so I guess thats why I love it? I remember when I first got a PS2 Christmas of 2002- three days before my eleventh birthday. I got Sly Cooper with it, then my dad took me to Blockbuster and I rented Kingdom Hearts. The game was magical then, and it introduced me to the Final Fantasy games- which is my favorite game series. I'll admit the gameplay is no Zelda, but it successfully combined Final Fantasy and Disney in an awesome way. So, yeah man, Kingdom Hearts was a great time in middle school...

    Colin says when asked which mechanics he wants to see in future games it would be to make choices that have impact. What i found ridiculous about that was that the Witcher 3 has one of the best systems in terms of that. Your choices matter and they even make the world change. The great thing is that it is done in a realistic way and not like giving you two options and no matter what you do the game will judge you in some way and put you in a good vs evil category. As Colin didn´t play a big part of W3´s story of course he didn´t get this. But i am actually not sure if he could appreciate that system because here it really sounds like he wants those cliche telltale choices that don´t feel realistic and always make you feel bad no matter what you do and are way over the top.

    For me, it's Skyrim. Bought it, played it and just had no fun with the combat. I also thought the story was weak. I feel a lot of open world games just don't have a great story. No characters that I get attached too like in Mass Effect or DAI. A bit the same with MSG 5 though the combat in MSG is just great.

    i don't really have a good example. But i will say i loved KH from beginning, and i did love shadow of colossus. i do think that it's hard to do the controls from games from like ps1 and ps2 generation. In my mind, it was, you just get used to whatever the control scheme is. so when people say, i want control mapping, i'm like no. just get used to what the dev's want you to do

    Bravely Default. Old school job system? Awesome. Warriors of Light homage? Check. Unique take on old combat system tropes? This game was made for me.
    30 hours in and all of that good will went away very, very fast.

    I couldn't get into Fallout: New Vegas. I played a few hours of Fallout 3 from someone's copy to try it out. I loved it but now I only have a PS4 and FO3 doesn't work on Windows 7. So I got New Vegas but it didn't click with me at all.

    "Im the bigger fan!" schtick really pisses me off, had a friend who would try that often, and would always bring that up any time i had the audacity to bring up critiques with films and games we were fans of, its possible to love something and still be able to discuss its faults.
    A game I tried to get into but couldn't was Starcraft 2, loved Halo Wars and wanted to play more sci-fi RTS, but i found it just never really clicked, probably also didn't help I prefer Controller to Mouse and keyboard.
    And a game mechanic I would like to see more of, active reload in Gears of War, brings an element of risk vs reward to a mechanic most games wouldn't give a second thought to.

    I tried to get into first Uncharted, Batman, GTA4 when I bought PS3, but just couldn't. At that point I mostly moved into PC gaming. That whole generations almost all 3rd person games just didn't catch me at all after loving many on my Gamecube and PS2.
    Games that I should by every account love, Witcher and Witcher 2 I just could not get into. I really did try to like both. Though I do like Witcher 3 very much.

    MGSV is the game I wanted to love but couldn't. It looked like so much fun but after 15 hours I was bored as hell from the repetitive missions and easy stealth. Like I'm bad at stealth games but I was getting S ranks all the time for full stealth. Plus there are stupid difficulty spikes out of nowhere. I know that there are different ways to play other than stealth but the game really only rewards you for playing one way in terms of building mother base etc etc.

    Xenoblade- MMO-Style grinding, combat system lacked depth with victory determined purely on if you are high enough level to take on the next boss. Its landscape which, was indeed very well designed, couldn't display well on the Wii's low graphic capabilities. Also, not exactly a fan of the characters *yelling their moves before using them.* Story was okay. Kinda cliche but it wasn't bad. Things I liked? The voice acting when not yelling their moves, or telling the enemy what time it was. It was an okay game.

    The whole Final Fantasy universe is something I try to get into but can't. I also find it annoying that every game is it's own story.
    I still love the Tactics games without caring about the story.characters.

    Kingdom Hearts where kinda behind the times in terms of camera control though. In fact, most Japanese devs at the time where when it came to camera control. They just insisted on sticking to buttons for controlling the camera for the longest time. Maybe Japanese gamers just wheren't taking to an analog stick controlled camera, and that is why?
    Regardless, KH definitely wasn't a case of just being. "Of the times" and we not knowing how to do it better back then. Which is why KH2 introduced a better camera control system.

    One game series I thought was good but didn't understand the obsession is.....brace yourselves..... The Legend of Zelda. I played Skyward Sword and probably a little under half of Ocarina of Time and it just didn't click. But I was also a late comer to the series.

      Link to the Past and Link Between Worlds. Play those, I was late to the series as well but I started with Link to the Past. At least try one of those since the 2D games are so different than the 3D titles

    • @TheRockMouse
      @TheRockMouse 8 лет назад +1

      +Dennis Osborn I don't blame you. I personally think Wind Waker is the best Zelda. The rest of the games were 'good' to me. It's just one of those long lasting series that will draw in numbers regardless of how it stands next to its predecessors. It's a good series, don't get me wrong. But I think it certainly could turn off some people.
      Also, if you didn't like those, the 2D ones aren't much different. That's just my view since they follow the same formula.

    • @MrFatLipx
      @MrFatLipx 8 лет назад

      Starting with Skyward Sword was a huge mistake. That game is hated by a good chunk of the fan base, so I urge you to finish ocarina of time or try something like majoras mask or wind waker, or even a link to the past if you're into top-down games.

    I love GTA V, so I thought it would be a good idea to play it's PS2 predecessor, San Andreas. I wanted to love that game but hoo wee are the controls garbage. Honestly, take off any nostalgia goggles you have on and play that game in 201 and you will see just how archaic it is.
