Sometimes it's infuriating because he is so narrowminded in what he likes and I see Nick trying to get him into older stuff, he just doesn't care, and a lot of the new stuff he likes has influences or are just copied from older stuff that's still around to watch, play, or try

It blows my mind how they could release this game knowing that it would destroy the franchise. They created a skate park and slapped the Tony Hawk name on it then just sat back and watched as the cash rolled in. FUCKING CRIMINALS!
My fav is Tony Hawk Underground 2. Plsyed so many hours on that.

+22KingWizard I loved THUG 1, Pro Skater 1, and American Wasteland. Those three were my favorites.
My first was THPS2 but my favorite is definitely THUG2. I've finished it on ps2, psp and even pc recently, and I've got to say that the gameplay mechanics aged pretty well !
My favorite THPS memory is when I realiｚed there were cheats and I didn't have to work to unlock Darth Maul.
The helicopter not flying away after the grind across the propellor was this game shitting directly on my childhood

Thank you Tim for a great review, it's good to see a review that feels like my cousin or friend just talking to me about a game. I've played all the THPS games up to Skate and I feel your pain.
THPS2 is my favorite of the series both for the stages and the music.

I'm not a Tim's fan, but this is by a mile his best video so far, honest, with deep knowledge of the game and laid back. Great job men, and do not apologize for the game, we are glad that even being a fan boy you where sincere with your review.

I have fond memories of playing this with friends on the ps2; Making ridiculous skate parks and trying to kill eachother with spike traps.
It's unfortunate that this revisit to the series can't capture that same magic.
The only ones I played was Pro Skater 2, Pro Skater 3, Underground and Underground 2. I loved those and played the hell out of them when I was a little. Damn I miss those times. It's a shame this didn't turn out good. I also miss Neversoft... man they made good games. I loved Spiderman on the PS1.

+TitanIsBack acclaim aren't a thing anymore. They've been defunct since 2004. We just need a new freestyle bmx game that's like the old Dave mirra games.

TitanIsBack i guess. Turok is what i liked the most out of them.
A couple issues with the game. When doing the "Tony Says" goals the tricks will not register 75% of the time even though it shows the correct trick at the bottom, and when you are in the middle of a combo and your special bar fills up it wont actually turn yellow until you land thus forcing you to end your combo to use your special.
Good little review/opinion vid. I'm in the same boat as Tim, grew up with these games. It's a shame to see them go down the pan :(
my buddy got the demo for THPS 1 on some disc, I don't even remember. I think it was just the Warehouse level. But we sat there for literally hours just switching the controller back and forth doing runs.

just wanted to say Tim double and triple flips and grabs are in the game they changed how you do them double/triple tap the direction of the trick then then press square or circle also you can spine transfer just press r1 to do it
There are few people out there more upset about this than I am. I'm glad you're there with me, Tim! Here's hoping this isn't the last we'll see of Tony Hawk. But it's hard to see the series recovering from this. :/

I remember back in THPS2, when I got the helicopter to fly. I would try to jump over it again before it took off completely. It always felt amazing when I did it. Always annoyed me that there wasn't a "Gap trick" associated with that.

Tim, I'm not sure because I haven't played the game, but I was under the impression that the triangle to slam thing was for the purpose of grinding, like you go off a jump and you're going to overshoot the rail but you want to hit it to continue your combo, so you hold Y or triangle to simultaneously slam down and grind. Correct me if I'm wrong?

On the upside, maybe now some other major third party producer (ie: Rockstar, EA games) will see the potential for this franchise and can make a deal with Tony Hawk to make a thoughtful, modernized, and well-crafted revamp in the future.

Wait, how did Tim manage to get his hands on a PS2 version of the game?
Does anyone else have the issue where you approach the mission marker and then hit X to start it and it does nothing. Seems the only way to start a mission is to select it from the mission menu.
Did this game warrant a 20 minute review? A simple "this game sucks" would have been fine.

These arena style environments are terrible - why wouldn't they use a nice big open world like Sunset Overdrive or GTA 5 - add all those environmental things to use like rails, benches, add a wall run. It would be sweet to skate around a full size GTA 5 map doing tricks from one side to the other.
Thank you Tim for this video. I have been hearing so much horrible stuff about this game but you sat there and described everything wrong in a calm manner while showing it to me. I will not waste time on this game now. Thanks again.

I think a lot of people really like this game, but after the internet said it was bad, everyone was afraid to say otherwise.
Most of these complaints are solved in Skate. So basically, what I think Tim is trying to say is just play Skate instead. It's practically free now.

Really enjoyed this Tim! It's sad to see something which had some a significant impact on you growing up to be so sucky now. Hopefully this doesn't kill off the franchise completely.
"more than anything, I wanted to like this game". that's exactly how I felt. I ended up picking up THPS 5 a few days ago for $5. Yeah, it's buggy, repetitive and a bit unoriginal, but there is still a little bit of fun with it. It's by no means a great game, even a good game, but it is playable and will provide a tiny bit of nostalgia. I really do hope THPS gets a proper reboot soon and have it feel more like THPS 4 (my favorite in the series).

I do have to say though Tim, TH Proving Ground (the one after 8 that you don't remember lol) is really very good. MUCH better than 8. And there was a PS3 and XB360 version as well.
The old tony hawk games we're the best but i want a skate 4!

I guess my decision to take the $60 I would have spent on this and get a PS2 with THPS 3 & 4 as well as Shovel Knight was a good call...
Didn't mention Proving Ground in your background, if you haven't played it I can recommend it. In many ways quite shitty, but the tightness and feel is there :)

This makes me sad cuz I'm a huge fan of the skate series. I was counting on THPS to bring back the skate game genre back and give incentive to EA to make a new skate game. Now, who knows what'll happen.

Spawn that killed you was the best
The only Tony Hawk I ever owned was THPS 2 on PC. It was the first rated T game I owned and 13 year old me thought it was so cool and edgy! I played it for probably hundreds of hours, and every song in the game is forever branded in my brain. Now I'm 21 and I still look up the soundtrack every once in awhile and it takes me back. Great game, never really got into the rest of the series though. Sorry for your disappointment Tim!

I vaguely remember playing Tony Hawk at some points as a kid. Mostly I watched other people play it. Cool little game, though I never got into it. I feel so fucking bad for Tim, though. It ain't easy when developers shit on your childhood like this...

Watching this vid, it doesn't seem that bad to be honest.
Yeah the gameplay doesn't look the best, nor does the level design but it looks a lot better than what I thought it would with the amount complaints I've read.

He didn't even mention that you cant even bail properly. If you run out of the balance meter, you don't wipeout. And the combo is completed, so you still get all your points. And that grinding isn't attached tot he same button as SLAM, its all automatic. Same with wall riding.
If you want more reasons to see why this is shit, watch NerdCubed's video. Which, like Tim's, focuses more on what this game got wrong int he context of Tony hawk's Pro Skater, and focuses less on the whacky physics.
And Tim, my heart broke seeing that helicopter not go anywhere, either. This is the first time seeing this level and seeing that Helicopter.
Oh man, i watched Tim's childhood die today.
Probably the only good thing I can say about this game is that Ratatat is in the game.
My all time favorite was the Bunker for sure.

As THPS fans I'm sure we are all very upset. But I feel like you should have done your homework, a lot of what you said didn't sound right and or seems like something you just kinda made up, or complained just to complain. I'm not defending the game at all, I'm just as upset as you are, I still have all the games! See you in the next vid!
