  • Men O' War" is a short silent film starring the iconic comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, consisting of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. This Laurel and Hardy film was released in 1929 and directed by Lewis R. Foster. It is known for its classic slapstick humor and maritime-themed gags.
The plot of "Men O' War" centers around Stan and Ollie, who are sailors in the Navy. The film follows their misadventures as they attempt to perform their duties on board a battleship. However, their clumsiness and lack of understanding of naval procedures lead to a series of humorous mishaps and chaotic situations.
Throughout the film, Laurel and Hardy's physical comedy is prominently featured as they navigate the challenges of life at sea. From a malfunctioning cannon to a misfired torpedo, their antics create plenty of comedic moments. The film also explores their interactions with their fellow sailors, officers, and the ship's commander.
As with many Laurel and Hardy films, "Men O' War" highlights their comedic chemistry, with Stan as the innocent and bumbling character and Ollie as the more exasperated and authoritative figure. The film is a testament to their ability to find humor in everyday situations and to entertain audiences with their impeccable timing and comedic talent.
"Men O' War" is a beloved classic among fans of silent cinema and slapstick comedy, and it remains a cherished entry in Laurel and Hardy's filmography.

Thank you for posting this. Very interesting contrast to other L&H shorts, especially in the way that they recycled elements from film to film.
    And the girls were cute.

    It’s not silent
    It’s a genuine talkie

Also, the description of what happens in the film is wrong. It doesn't take place aboard a battle ship, there are no cannons involved, no torpedo's, no captains, etc. As a matter of fact, I don't know a single L&H film (maritime-themed or otherwise) that fits this description. I wonder if the person who posted this video even watched it.
