This EP helped me get through the worst time of my entire life. No other project has perfectly captured the feeling of depression like this one did to me. Earl is a saint
this and some rap songs got me out of my lowest point, SRS came out two weeks after a close friend of mine passed and honestly dont know how i would have coped without that album
The transition of “you can see it in my face I ain’t been eating” on this EP to him rapping on Some Rap Songs “I been eating good, you can see it in my tummy” makes me happy for Earl, even if he was still in a dark place during SRS. Great callback to show his growth, even if just taking a small step forward
The comment section of this EP is probably my favorite comment section of any RUclips video of all time. You’re not usually going to casually listen to this so it’s generally just a bunch of people who are going through some shit whatever it may be coming back to a song that brings some sort of solace. One of my favorite pieces of music of all time honestly.
@@cantcornerthedorner3258 I don't think it's glorifying, I think it's more appreciative of people who know how this song feels and have gotten through the dark feelings it encompasses.
It's incredible how music and bring so many different people together, and now how comment sections allow them to touch each other just a little as well. Good stuff.
The uplifting hope on Part 5 is what helped me pick up myself when I was going thru the worst times of my life. Earl is a friend and someone to relate to when you feel like no one in the world could feel the same way you do in the darkest moments. As a true friend does he helps you back up from the hole and gives you hope. Love you Earl, Love you Bob❤️.
so glad you're reacting to this EP. honestly this is probably the most important song in my life even if I don't listen to it as much as some other songs, as corny as it sounds this felt like the only thing that i could felt understood by when I was at my most exhausted and genuinely contemplating leaving every day. stuff isnt perfect but in a better place now n Earl is still my favorite artist💖
This one project has done so much for me over the years, I remember first hearing it at my dads school in like 7th grade. It was raining outside and I went on a walk and listened and everyday since then I’ve gave it a listen it seems. A classic, and I’m so glad about the journey you’ve had so far Bob
It's been a lot of fun :) I'm glad I could get to something this lowkey, though it does annoy others who want more of the big names. But I love exploring, and I'll get to those big names in time.
commenting on an old video, and i'm very high so might not get my thoughts across, but insight like you offered at 14:20 onwards is why I love your videos so much man. You rarely ever get any sort of introspection in reaction videos that goes past surface-level lyrical content. Interpreting meanings behind every aspect of a song (which, with artists as good as Earl, are all intentional) adds so much, and you picked up a lot of this on I Don't Like Shit as well. Just brilliant! Love from New Zealand
It's hard to not let others affect you when they go through stuff, especially if you're close to them. We're only human. I hope it's nothing too serious. And if so, I can only hope for the best outcome. Thanks for the video. I needed this too. Woke up still drunk from last night. About to smoke. Just in my feelings. Thinking about my mom, grandma, uncle all passed away recently, father never around then died too. I dunno... I'll get over it. Just have moments like these sometimes. Will watch your other Earl reactions now. Love that dude's music.
I’m very happy to have stumbled across this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to Solace while drawing or writing, just balling my eyes out. I got welled up just watching this as I remembered those times . Will definitely check out your other videos.
earl means so much to me and i love to see other people understand his songs in their own way. this song is just gorgeous everything about it the separate parts the lyrics i feel so connected to every part in a different way
When I tell you this song saved my life. Hearing him project his emotions so raw like forced me to look at myself in the mirror. I hope Earl knows the help he gives people.
Dude everything you said about your sleeping problems hit me so deep. I didn't know anyone else had these problems and how your brain is constantly running.
love it how u really understand all the emotions he passing on thru the lyrics even with the instrumentals lol thats sick btw you really need to listen to the ooz by king krule one day. noisy, depressing and it themes around space in a very peculiar way of expression
hey man idk if your still doing conversations with the community, but if you ever wanted to do an episode about earl, id love to be on and talk about him, much love thanks for the great vids ❤
Chills. Earl definitely went through some shit. He did drugs and drinking early on in his life at least. I fucked up and got into it late. But also been dealing with multiple deaths in the family and shit in recent years. Not to go too deep into it. But yeah, I can relate sometimes. But I got my girlfriend to keep me balanced at least. Love her to death. And this weed. 😁 Man I love Earl Sweatshirt
Been watching you since your Blonde review, probably my favourite video of yours but I've got to say your analyses are actually so good now (not that they ever weren't), i just love the way you think about some lyrics and give a fresh perspective to it all. I don't know if you've ever heard of King Krule, but I would kill to hear you give him a go, if you ever do his album the ooz is where you need to start - he's from the UK so would be cool for you to try out some sounds from over here.
This song is crazy, in the history of Earl Sweatshirt we got this years before SRS came out after relative silence from him and everyone was like “wow! Well that was weird…” little did we know it was just the beginning of the new sound Earl would continue to cultivate ever since
Yea the stigma on drug addicts and people that medicate (however they do it) is messed up. I love Earl's music it's so real. But yea a lot of people just don't get it sadly, and a lot of people prolly just won't, and I admire them for it.
14:06 Part 5 to me sounds like Victory Music. Now Yha it’s exhausted and dragging but it sounds like you found something and it lets you rest for a bit
Solace is in my opinion the best (or maybe second best after long time by Carti lol) hip hop song ever. It’s helped me so much and I’m so grateful for it. It perfectly captures the feeling of depression
Hey, i know you like JPEGMAFIA so i think you should check out some of his work he released while he still went by "Devon Hendryx", especially "DREAMCAST SUMMER SONGS" and "THE GHOST~POP TAPE". Lots of the work from this era gets left behind or overlooked by most fans, but I think it is some of his best work. Really love your videos and stay safe
I'm curious was Earl inspired by Jay Electronica who did kinda similar concept on Act 1: Eternal Sunshine in 2007 I mean it's little bit different but also moody as hell and was uploaded as single 15 min long file
i feel the opposite. the way he approaches feels and existenciality needs a lot of emotional maturity and awareness, which is something u dont usually credit to a "angsty teen"
This EP helped me get through the worst time of my entire life. No other project has perfectly captured the feeling of depression like this one did to me. Earl is a saint
Oooooh yes. this one heavily relates .
this and some rap songs got me out of my lowest point, SRS came out two weeks after a close friend of mine passed and honestly dont know how i would have coped without that album
ok computer
same.
Same, but this project I realized also keeps me down if I listen too much, yk what I mean?.
Solace is incredible. “One foot stuck in the tar pit of my ways” is one of my favorite lines ever
Great line
no doubt, agree.
The phrase "me and my nibbling conscience" is something that goes through my head a lot whenever im going through a rough time. This EP is magnificent
Same bro

I had the biggest smile when he spit that line. I felt so proud for earl dude.
i scream that line everytime
He is so good at creating a pair of shoes for you to put yourself in and relate to while you wear your own
I feel this but when Earl said "walked outside and it was still gorgeous".

Probably in the conversation for the best EP of all time. He really made a masterpiece here.
widely considered one of the best EPs hip hop has ever offered. masterpiece, i get chills on part 2 everytime

Really underrated as well to go along with that
part 4 is one of the most real verses of all time. he wrote his feelings out, recorded it. pure.
So glad you’re doing earl. He’s such a unique and poetic artist
This album will always be my depression, drudge, sadness, album. Helped me get through so much shit man. Ever since high school

Solace feels so calming in a weird way. The outro of the whole EP is such a nice way to end it. It's the cherry on top.
LETSSSGGOOO. you have no idea how hype i am for this bob, one of my fav tracks/eps ever. this got me through tough times
Thank you for reacting to this 🙏🙏 this project saved my life a million times over and I still go back when I’m feeling down
This project is whats been getting me through as of late. Such a hauntingly beautiful EP.
One of the greatest EP's ever made and i think the most emotional piece of music ive ever heard,
One of the most emotional tracks I've ever listened to, out of all my 17 years of life

Doesnt matter how much time has passed but part 2 always gives me chills and brings years to my eyes
There’s a recent video of him cooking on twitter and he seems like he’s doing much better
After this some rap songs was devastating too so many people were worried about him
I've been dreaming about this day
bob you paused at the greatest transition of all time. Never pause at solace!!!!
When I tell you this song saved my life. Hearing him project his emotions so raw like forced me to look at myself in the mirror. I hope Earl knows the help he gives people.
this is my first time listening to this project
to be honest
this is a masterpiece
his second best work behind some rap songs but both are masterpieces
shout out to this album it saved my life

Not sure why it's not on streaming, might be because of sample clearances.
It is, just have to look in the right places
Earl said that he just dropped on youtube just to get it off his chest, something personal, might have to ask him if he wants to put it on streaming
