1:24:17 Actually, it DOES exist on CD, vinyl, and cassette. It was officially released on those formats in 2013 i believe. However, each one was limited to only around 1,000 copies, and has become hard to find. The only reason it hasn't been released again is because the album contains too many uncleared samples that they would be sued for. Bootlegs do exist though, and the quality is usually pretty great. Honestly, in some ways, listening to a bootleg feels like the only true way to listen to death grips.
@@bobthepoppop that's cool. I got myself a bootleg vinyl for pretty cheap and it sounds great. It came with some chips and cracks on the outer edge but it only feels like it adds to the vibe of the album.

I think part of the appeal of Death Grips is that no two albums sound super similar, like you mentioned in the closing thoughts. I'll say that no two consecutive albums (hell, even NOTM and Jenny Death sound super dissimilar) sound anything like each other. The fact that Death Grips continues to innovate with every passing record makes them one of my all-time favorite groups. Great reaction! I gotta hear your reaction to Bottomless Pit at some point.
Notm and gp sound similar under many aspects; for example all the chopped vocals and constantly changing song structures like billy not really and anne bonny but yeah i think it’s the only case where two death grips albums are kinda built on similar sounds and ideas. I would also argue that the reason why notm is so much better than gp is that dg would actually build on some of the song ideas from government plates with a more ambitious twitst, the bjork vocals, and longer songs with multiple energy levels all over them like fuck me out or up my sleeves. This is definitely not like a college dropout to late registration type of situation though ; government plates and notm don’t have such similar tracklist and don’t really provide a very similar listening experience from front to end

I always liked this annotation from Genius on the Exmilitary cover, written by ahxfootball22: The cover is a folded picture of an Aboriginal man. The image was carried in the wallet drummer Zach Hill as a symbol of strength, explaining why the image is folded two ways. This image represents the untamed human desires and aggression that is explored in the album’s abrasive, angry lyrics. It should also be noted that the folds also take the shape of the crosshairs as if the man is being targeted by society, illustrating how western culture frowns upon and tries to tame the primitive desires of man. The folds can also take the shape of a fence, furthering the theme of how western society cages men and targets primal behavior.

They released a clip on their instagram a few months ago for the first time since their last album, which could be a pretty good indicator of them coming back for another album and possibly a tour, but you never really know with them. I didn’t truly get into them until a couple years ago so I’m still holding onto hope that I can see them live someday, they’re something special.
Definitely need to get through the rest of the Death Grips discography when you can, really interesting batch of records. Would love to see reactions to Clipping which is in a similar but slightly softer industrial rap with great lyrics. Keep the great videos coming :)
@@bobthepoppop Their self-titled second album, CLPPNG, is ridiculously good. Noisy and industrial, like Death Grips, but more atmospheric, and Daveed is a very different rapper than MC Ride. Much more controlled and technical. Really cool album.
I know the post you’re talking about at 6:51. Disclaimer, by the way, but please talk to someone if you’re having thoughts like these. I promise there are people that care about you. If I’m remembering correctly, the OP had been suicidal, and decided one night to go through with it. He dropped acid (or possibly some other psychedelic drug, though I’m fairly sure it was acid), put on some calming music on Spotify, slit his wrists, and laid in his bathtub, hoping to bleed out. Luckily, as he laid there and as the drugs kicked in, the calming music he put on ended, and the next song in the queue was (I want to think) Bubbles Buried In This Jungle, a Death Grips song off their album Bottomless Pit, and a song that just _starts._ Almost instantly, he panics, scrambles out of the tub, runs over to his neighbour’s house, and gets his neighbour to call him an ambulance. Years later, having received medical treatment and mental help (if that’s the wrong word please let me know), he goes into a convenience store for a snack, and as he’s perusing the aisles, he spots an African American male in a dark hoodie and jeans, whom he soon recognizes as MC Ride. He asks Ride something to the tune of “are you who i think you are?”, and he says “probably”. My recollection of this part is especially fuzzy but I’ll try my best to summarise. OP, overcome by emotion and not sure what to say, pulls up his sleeve, shows Ride the scars on his arms, and goes on to tell Ride how much Death Grips helped him and how their music saved him. Ride looks at the scars, then at OP, and tells him “don’t ever do that again”, and that it gets easier and so on. (Like I said, my memory here is fuzzy at best) I think after that Ride pays for his things and leaves, but I have virtually no recollection of the end of the story. I’m sure you can find the original post pretty easily by looking through the all-time top posts on r/DeathGrips. Honestly, I’d strongly recommend that you do, since my shitty retelling couldn’t come close to doing the original justice.

Going through this album again, hearing your commentary on American Culture, Military, ect, it just sends me back. The algorithm has been feeding me straight garbage, but this was good content, felt like I there experiencing this music with you again
As someone who has mashed up k-pop instrumentals with Death Grips vocals... I think part of it is to do with how readily available they make their stems, and another part is how their actual instrumentals and vocals sometimes clash interestingly with each other anyway. Also vocals that aren't set to a particular key are much easier to mash up with melodic instrumentals
I agree with your analysis that most of the album is about Death Grips referencing the music they make, not the literal interpretation of drug consumption. It's a double meaning of both black magic/drug consumption which they use to describe what they're musical experience is like
I've got to say, everything you said from 57:32-59:23 is FACTS. it happened to me a day ago after my trip to my capital (i haven't used the internet at all for 4 days), i had to keep up after with the internet, the information and all other shit. and when you start, media consumption gets your memory of a lot of things lost cause of how much there is (piled with junk too) and then the government can easily use that disadvantage against you in certain situations . so well said man . the whole of Culture Shock puts it perfectly . EDIT: Forgot to say i absolutely love this album, it gets me so hype
Exmilitary (printed as "Ex Military") did have a brief printing of CDs, vinyl and cassettes through their self-released label Third Worlds in 2011-2012 but there has never been a reissue since then. They command completely insane prices from second-hand sellers lol

Definitely need to get through the rest of the Death Grips discography when you can, really interesting batch of records. Would love to see reactions to Clipping which is in a similar but slightly softer industrial rap with great lyrics. Keep the great videos coming :)
Clipping likely happening in October 👍
@@bobthepoppop Their self-titled second album, CLPPNG, is ridiculously good. Noisy and industrial, like Death Grips, but more atmospheric, and Daveed is a very different rapper than MC Ride. Much more controlled and technical. Really cool album.
They're gonna be doing live shows and a tour soon. Your wish of seeing them live will hopefully come true.
I have been WAITING!
Only Death Grips album I enjoy honestly. raw and full of energy, yet very accesible
they're all amazing.
@@sajidvegas just my opinion , and I’ve tried
That's bizarre as fuck
Honestly, I’d strongly recommend that you do, since my shitty retelling couldn’t come close to doing the original justice.
hi!! hope you still read comments but they went on tour this year and i hope you got to go :) the show was insane! i traveled 3 hours to go to one of the shows.
This album has aged insanely well. Love those stanky death grips boys, hyped to watch you take the journey.
That’s so crazy I was watching your first death grips reaction vid today and now here’s a new one lol Can’t wait to watch!
love seeing a bob upload after getting home from work. especially one of my fav albums
This is amazing after you have trained your ears i feel like you will enjoy this more than before also this album is top 2 in general from dg so happy you did this one first
Holy shit this review is goated!! for sure my favorite death grips album and im so happy seeing someone enjoy it so much cause in my eyes it’s death grips at their best :) death heated and klink are my favorite songs off the album as well
I might just watch the reaction as a listen for the entire album, since I don’t have any plans to listen to this anytime soon and I am interested in this album :)
You'll miss parts
@@JC20XX I know but the ones I do like I can just listen to them on their own
@@super6070 how did you feel about it?
@@anathuu1124 it’s really good, not an easy listen tho so this album kinda stands alone from any of my likes or playlists. Something I would only listen to when listening to the album
@@super6070 their work is best experienced as albums, yes.
Hope you get to see them this tour, I saw them in 2015 and they closed with I Want It I Need It. Its truly an experience and its fucking LOUD. Bring earplugs
I saw them this tour, they closed with Hacker and it went so hard. Would have loved to see them play I Want It I Need It
great reaction bro i really love how you delve into the lyrics and try and understand them and explain your thoughts!
Dang, Known For It is one of my favourites. I love that sample and kick pattern in the chorus.
I've been waiting for this since the roundup yessss
I’ll never forget listening to the first time in 2011. had no idea what was about to hit me. love the video.
It's so great seeing which samples someone recognises
Damn Bob, watching you react feel like my first time listening to albums. Amazing reaction!
There would be no Veteran without Exmilitary and Money Store.
Bob disagreeing with the anotations reminds me of what makes these lines great.
Every line has the potential to be about drugs, sex, society, homelessness, music and much more, all at the same time.
Death Grips writes these songs very carefully.
I'm loving this reaction and appreciate your willingness to react to artists most reactors wouldn't, great video and I would love to see a reaction to Undun by the Roots as well as The Powers that B by Death Grips (I feel this one could be your favourite since it has the most rock and metal influences out of all of their work)
There are a lot of new cool post-punk albums mainly from the uk but from other places too. my recomendations are Black midi, squid and if you want something more jazzy indie like black country, new road (Their album Ants from up there might be my AOTY). Otherwise idk, I don't lislisten too a lot of metal and if I do listen to more rock oriented stuf it is usualy indie rock, punk stuff or shoegaze. bands from those genres I would recomend are my bloody valentine, slowdive, fleet foxes and the strokes.
@@adamlagerqvist8111 Oh hell yh, I would also love to see reactions to them, those bands are great as well
I really wanna get to a Roots album. I still haven't heard any of their music yet.
@@idektbh18 oops this reply was not met for you, but hey I do agree these albums are grate. Must of clicked the wrong comment, was sending this to a guy asking for sugestions outside the hiphop realm.
I know it's about Rumble but I'm just laughing at the idea of Jimmy Page rocking to Death Grips talking about how he loves the build of spread eagle cross the block.
I never thought about it but Exmilitary songs have some fucking metal ass lyrics
i think Bottomless Pitt could bump Veteran's spot for favorite initial reaction
Really hoping too.
Is bottomless pit really a hip hop album? I guess.. But
Bob, I love the way you explain things so much man. Keep it up
HOUSE OF BALLOONS INTO EXMILITARY WE ARE EATING SO GOOD THIS MONTH
I remember listening to this in high school when it first dropped and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Glad you are experiencing the same now. 👍 W Bob Pop
44:44 I needed this inspiration. May sample it tbh.
I have had many spiritual moments in the middle of dg albums
Sample anything from my vids you like. You have full permission 👍
@@bobthepoppop I appreciate this. Also please listen to MIKE (rapper) and react to Clown Core - Van album/video
ofc its at 44:44 as well, palindromic number.
YEEEES, ever since I watched my first Bob Video I was expecting for this to come, thank you
So glad to see you enjoy this one! I always get nervous when a Death Grips song happens to play in my car when I'm with someone who's never heard them before. Watching this reaction (and The Money Store) was kinda the same way lol. Maybe Bottomless Pit has moved up in your priority a bit...? And why not their whole discog while you're at it? Lmao in all seriousness, keep up the great work.
Great to see some more Death Grips reactions/reviews from you!
Ooh I love your image of Guillotine where the vocals are like someone fleeing and the beat is slower but doggedly pursuing them
i love seeing the smile on your face whenever something crazy happens on the album. It's always cool to see someone who loves experimentation in music listen to something I love for its experimentation.
Your comment about running from the beat was so spot on.
I’m so glad you loved I Want it I need it that much. Def the best on Exmilitary and one of their best tracks in general
to me, i want it i need it is a satirical 'party song', i think the biggest indicator here is the line 'start to pondering r*pe'. he isn't dropping that line unironically. read the lyrics with this in mind and you might see it.
They're still doing live shows, seeing them again in June, Outbreak Festival in Manchester UK :)
I'm just now realizing that bridge in Klink he's saying "Minding my own business, minding my own business"
I originally thought he was saying "My homie's dead, my homie's dead"
“Is it going?”
“IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES”
I’m seeing them live tomorrow in Denver and I’m so fucking excited I hope they play some songs from this album.
i was very excited for this one, im very happy you enjoyed it as it is one of my favorite albums!!!
Respect for even attempting death grips reaction lol
I got to see them this year in September! Best concert I've been to! Ride and Zach Hill live are different fucking animals dude
man if you loved this album i cant wait to hear your reactions to their other albums. they're all completely unique from each other and so unpredictable
The sample on I Want It Need It is a pure orgasm ! Its Interstellar Overdrive from the first Pink Floyd album; The Piper At The Gates Of Down.
love you bob
Album is crazy good.
To this day Exmilitary sounds as fresh as the first time I listened to it.
Looking forward to you eventually getting Noided to the rest of their discography.
Going through this album again, hearing your commentary on American Culture, Military, ect, it just sends me back. The algorithm has been feeding me straight garbage, but this was good content, felt like I there experiencing this music with you again
there is an ungodly number of mashups with Death Grips. you'd be surprised just how well their music meshes with other artists.
It's a double meaning of both black magic/drug consumption which they use to describe what they're musical experience is like
Nailed it!
it's such a joy watch someone listening to guillotine for the first time. love the channel, dude, awesome reactions
Mystic Stylez last week and ExMilitary this week? I like it here 👍🏾
Exmilitary (printed as "Ex Military") did have a brief printing of CDs, vinyl and cassettes through their self-released label Third Worlds in 2011-2012 but there has never been a reissue since then. They command completely insane prices from second-hand sellers lol
"Death-grip and death-grip syndrome (DGS) are slang terms for suffering adverse effects from one's aggressive and recurrent male masturbation technique, which result in an unsatisfactory experience when engaging in regular sexual intercourse with a partner."
Found out the other day, after years of wondering about the bands name origin.
gotta do their whole discography now, yer in too deep bob
I'm so happy you finally reacted to this. My heart is happy.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!
bob recognizing rock samples is the coolest thing ever
bob you gotta listen to Clipping.!!!! Im sure you will love it
Finally!
You’re in luck, DG are touring now!
