Audio was a little off on this one (my mic was a bit low). I blame my ear. I did a sound check but when you're kinda deaf on one side, everything sounds fine? 🤷♂
Also, Jimmy Page geeking out over 'Rumble' --> ruclips.net/video/LnyY3rJoaZ4/видео.html
It was only a problem when you spoke during the song but it’s fine
I feel like your explanation durring takyon was eye opening and could acually fit for the whole album and fit into the whole discography Recontextualization the whole thing!

The fact you said “is it going” before guillotine is hilarious 🤣 IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES

It was, in fact, going. 😂
That "To pray is to accept defeat" line will always be my favorite death grips line ever
I've listened to Beware a hundred times and only now appreciated how the lyrics ride a fine line between being biblically poetic and metal as fuck.
@@incidentlyaniguana2193it took me a very long time as well
Reads off like a witches chant to the currents of the underworld and its absolutely beautiful and totally cathartic
Always been a big fan of "I am the beast I worship"
That song has some of the best death grips lines ever, I also love "dismiss this life, worship death"

Classic indeed! I was just as excited to see this come up on my feed!
Should probably get a life. But good for you haha
1:24:17 Actually, it DOES exist on CD, vinyl, and cassette. It was officially released on those formats in 2013 i believe. However, each one was limited to only around 1,000 copies, and has become hard to find. The only reason it hasn't been released again is because the album contains too many uncleared samples that they would be sued for. Bootlegs do exist though, and the quality is usually pretty great. Honestly, in some ways, listening to a bootleg feels like the only true way to listen to death grips.
Yeah, I'm legit thinking about burning myself a copy onto CD just to scribble 'Exmilitary' on it in Sharpie. It feels far too appropriate that way.
@@bobthepoppop that's cool. I got myself a bootleg vinyl for pretty cheap and it sounds great. It came with some chips and cracks on the outer edge but it only feels like it adds to the vibe of the album.
One legit one popped up at my local record* store and it took everything in me not to buy it, I called the store and they said it was $450 if I wanted it
@@MrPeanutToes 450$? wtf
@@bobthepoppop do it man, i got a whole bunch of burned cds that are hard to come by/too expensive/dont exist for in the car and stuff!
Exmilitary is an incredible album. One of my favorites of all time.
@Underground Hip-Hop Tunes it is too good to be passed off as a mixtape
hot take , I prefer this over money store
The correct take
i don't think exmilitary is even underrated or anything
i think if exmilitary was available on spotify and other streaming services it would be almost as popular if not more popular than the money store
Exmilitary is their best album imo. Also, Beware has some of the best lyricism on any song I’ve ever heard.
Most death grips albums are better than the money store. Money store is their 5th best at its highest imo, it just gets overrated cuz of fantano and people are scared to get out of their comfort zone after they listen to TMS. TMS is still great though
It's not that of a hot take. Exmilitary is my second favorite album by DG after The Money Store
"I want it, I need it" guitar sample is actually from Pink Floyd's first album, and was made by Syd Barrett.
I'm homestly shocked he didn't hear Interstellar Overdrive considering the riff is almost copy and pasted
@@xbenci sampling done right
Damn I can't believe I never noticed that before
I think part of the appeal of Death Grips is that no two albums sound super similar, like you mentioned in the closing thoughts. I'll say that no two consecutive albums (hell, even NOTM and Jenny Death sound super dissimilar) sound anything like each other. The fact that Death Grips continues to innovate with every passing record makes them one of my all-time favorite groups. Great reaction! I gotta hear your reaction to Bottomless Pit at some point.
Well said! Following their career has been an experience, to say the least!
Notm and gp sound similar under many aspects; for example all the chopped vocals and constantly changing song structures like billy not really and anne bonny but yeah i think it’s the only case where two death grips albums are kinda built on similar sounds and ideas. I would also argue that the reason why notm is so much better than gp is that dg would actually build on some of the song ideas from government plates with a more ambitious twitst, the bjork vocals, and longer songs with multiple energy levels all over them like fuck me out or up my sleeves. This is definitely not like a college dropout to late registration type of situation though ; government plates and notm don’t have such similar tracklist and don’t really provide a very similar listening experience from front to end
This felt like listening to this album for the first time again. Can't thank you enough for the incredible content man

So happy you enjoyed Exmilitary! Looking forward to The Powers That B and Bottomless Pit

The end of klink sample is "liar liar".
"What it feels like to be read your rights by the (liar liar)."
I always liked this annotation from Genius on the Exmilitary cover, written by ahxfootball22:
The cover is a folded picture of an Aboriginal man. The image was carried in the wallet drummer Zach Hill as a symbol of strength, explaining why the image is folded two ways. This image represents the untamed human desires and aggression that is explored in the album’s abrasive, angry lyrics. It should also be noted that the folds also take the shape of the crosshairs as if the man is being targeted by society, illustrating how western culture frowns upon and tries to tame the primitive desires of man. The folds can also take the shape of a fence, furthering the theme of how western society cages men and targets primal behavior.
Thru the Walls might be my favourite song of ALL time, first heard it in 2015 and nothing has ever matched the raw energy of that song for me. As someone who has experienced multiple severe manic episodes, that song is what it fucking felt like
That song has been growing on me a lot this weekend. I love how chaotic it is
A lot of death grips songs have that unmatched manic energy. Really good shit.
kind of an understatement how future forward this mixtape was. Or just Death Grips in general. it's one of those things where you don't know if an artist/band is ahead of their time, or right on time.
I used to like every part of Guillotine except the vinyl scratching part, but after like 3 listens to this album I only like the vinyl scratching part.

An amazing hip hop album just released today called Cheat Codes. It’s a collaboration between legendary MC Black Thought from The Roots and equally legendary producer Danger Mouse. Check it outttt.
It has features from RTJ, MF DOOM, Raekwon, and more!

I'm very interested in Bottomless Pit
@@bobthepoppop I'm very interested in you being interested in Bottomless Pit 🙏🙏
@@bobthepoppop Bottomless Pit is the point where Death Grips had really evolved into their sound. It has a similar sound to the Money Store, but more polished and refined. I do think it’s even more chaotic and intense though, especially the first two tracks.
@@stratford1 no, even they said No Love Deep Web is the most death grips album. Not bottomless pit

cough 13 letters in album titles cough 13 tracks cough cough
In my opinion, One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. I don't think it'll ever get the recognition it truly deserves, but hopefully in time it will be known as a true classic. Truly ground breaking work.
“Is it going?”
“IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES”
in my opinion this is strangely the most "grounded" / "down to earth" death grips album, i had seizures listening to and trying to comprehend "bottomless pit" and "steroids", not to even mention disc 1 of "the powers that b" or "gmail and the restraining orders"
what i'm trying to say is: beware
lol, sounds amazing
It’s crazy how even DG more mainstream stuff is still experimental as fuck. I showed my (only just stepping out of the mainstream) friend The Money Store, and he was totally shocked when I told him that was probably their least experimental album
TOP 5 ALBUMS OF ALL TIME

I dont know, maybe top 50, definitley top 5 of the last decade thats for sure. Such an amazing experience
Near the end of one of the roughest shifts at work I’ve done in a long time, this notification has done so much to cheer me up. Love you Bob!
Happy to help :)
to me, i want it i need it is a satirical 'party song', i think the biggest indicator here is the line 'start to pondering r*pe'. he isn't dropping that line unironically. read the lyrics with this in mind and you might see it.
i think Bottomless Pitt could bump Veteran's spot for favorite initial reaction
Really hoping too.
Is bottomless pit really a hip hop album? I guess.. But
most anticipated reaction 2022
I wish he reacted to BP but I am NOT complaining about another DG reaction
great reaction bro i really love how you delve into the lyrics and try and understand them and explain your thoughts!
I love Death Grips because their music really makes you feel things, a lot of people don't like the sound of their music, but to me, good music is like a good movie, something that makes you feel many different types of way, whether it be mad, sad, or happy or scared, and Death Grips is good at getting those emotions going, if you listen to... let's say Jack Harlow, you're not really gonna feel much, and it's not an experience, but when you listen to Death Grips, you go through a lot of emotions and it's an experience you remember, like a rollercoaster
The shit that up my sleeves does to my brain sonically is irreplicable
This music means a lot to me. There’s something heartwarming about getting to experience it with another person, even in just video form.
Thanks for making this!
That’s so crazy I was watching your first death grips reaction vid today and now here’s a new one lol Can’t wait to watch!
God, I love this mixtape so much. I was much more into death/black metal at around this time, and this was just perfect timing for me to get back into what was coming out in modern hip hop. I was just getting out of high school and this always throws me back to that time. Some tweaker that I worked the graveyard shift with put me onto this lmao
Culture Shock has one of my favorite instrumentals ever, the instrumental alone is a masterpiece to me
YOU NEEEED TO VIBRATE HIGHERRR
love seeing a bob upload after getting home from work. especially one of my fav albums
BOB this is so exciting. This here album was... a part of me during the isolation of the pandemic. I'm SO SO SO SO glad you're checking it out! DG and MF DOOM have really been important to me and you give them both the justice they deserve. No recommendations, but I wonder if there are any albums you might recommend to someone like ME who has only listened to Industrial/Hip-Hop and not listened to much Rock/Metal. Thanks for the amazing content, you're KILLING IT!
I have a whole series called Sunday Suggestions that you can follow. I suggested 'Dopethrone' by Electric Wizard today. If you like DG, you should check that album out
I don´t listen to much metal but here are some sugestions outside the hiphop realm:
There are a lot of new cool post-punk albums mainly from the uk but from other places too. my recomendations are Black midi, squid and if you want something more jazzy and indie the go to is black country, new road (Their album Ants from up there might be my AOTY). Otherwise idk, I don't lislisten too a lot of metal and if I do listen to more rock oriented stuf it is usualy indie rock, punk stuff or shoegaze. bands from those genres I would recomend are (indie rock:) fleet foxes, the strokes, (punk:) Soul glo, Viagra boys, (shoegaze:) my bloody valentine and slowdive.
Edit: I tried to chose newer bands or band with some newer stuff out, but with shoegaze it´s hard to not go with the classics. The strokes are also to grate not to leave in even though they are a bit of an older band that has not droped anything in two years. (The new abnoraml is so good tho.) If you end up wanting more suggestions holler at me, especially for shoegaze/dreampop stuff.
@@bobthepoppop I just came back to dopethrone recently and man that album is still fucking fantastic. also ^ jman would probably like Psalm 69, and maybe Ocean Machine as well

Your comment about running from the beat was so spot on.
Excited to see you hopefully react to The Powers that B
I agree with your analysis that most of the album is about Death Grips referencing the music they make, not the literal interpretation of drug consumption. It's a double meaning of both black magic/drug consumption which they use to describe what they're musical experience is like
Nailed it!

there is an ungodly number of mashups with Death Grips. you'd be surprised just how well their music meshes with other artists.
As someone who has mashed up k-pop instrumentals with Death Grips vocals... I think part of it is to do with how readily available they make their stems, and another part is how their actual instrumentals and vocals sometimes clash interestingly with each other anyway. Also vocals that aren't set to a particular key are much easier to mash up with melodic instrumentals
