Been playing Tau since 4th Ed the new combat patrol is the best way to get into Tau ever especially since the ghostkeel is the best looking model in the line. All you will want beside that box would be some xv8 suits and some xv-88 suits
This is the video i’ve been waiting for sooooo long from many channels… “a video for totally newbie” now I can kick start my GUNDAM… i mean TAU on the play!!! Thank you very much!
There is a real dearth of quality Tau stuff on RUclips. Thanks for being my go to as I pick the hobby up again after a decade + away. I really wondered about the viability of the battalion box and this encouraged me to pick it up. Thank you!
I have walked this plane since the Time of Strife, the Mon'tau. I have seen great cities built and worlds burn at the whisper of the Aun. I have witnessed the grand heroics of Puretide, the ascendancy and fall of his greatest Pupil. The universe shall buckle under the weight of the Greater Good, and be better for it.
just started with T'AU. wanted something different than my Dark Angels or genestealers. the magnetic battle suit is a must! the 'start collecting' box is a great value (if you can find it) the 'combat patrol' box is ok, but they should have gone with 2×broadside instead of the ghostkeel. otherwise, use eBay! watch for shipping costs (many overcharge). try to find un-built kits, unless you are not into the hobby side and don't want to build/paint. some pre-built may not arrive with all the Xtra pieces or may be built incorrectly or poorly done. last point for those new to the hobby - DON'T buy an entire army as a single purchase!!! buy a simple kit (pathfinder or crisis suits). build and paint those mini's. make sure it's something you enjoy! if you spend $1000 on mini's and open them up to discover your overwhelmed and frustrated - then what? you've made a substantial investment into something you don't enjoy. again, start small and grow your force. this also helps with the rules/units learning curve.
I have to thank you. This is one of the best videos on tau that I’ve seen very concise easy to digest lots of information without being too much thank you you’ve just made it easier for me to get into warhammer and tau
A big block of crisis suits backed by drones is pretty much essential. Thirty firewarriors to sit on objectives and shoot at things is also a must. Not sure if the new suits are like this but the old ones you could simply stick the weapons in the slot and they'd stick. Oh yeah. First!
as i understantd it, essential bits are a block of crisis suits to blow the enemy off the table and screen your fire warriors, a block of fire warriors to hold objectives and a unit of kroot and stealth suits to potentially take objectives early on
@@jazzj2 Thats pretty accurate except the kroot are optional. Kroot are nice because they are dirt cheap and can get a decent save in cover. Oh yes always take markerlights in some form.
Legit what you said about 3minute mark about buying what you want is what I did, I was convinced on custodes cause I was told they were good, but then I went tau just because it is who I wanted to play as back in 2004 when I first played
Handy as I’ve just bought my first couple models combat patrol box and a broadside box plus imperium magazine premium subscription which gives me a Tau kit with fire warriors
Firtybnately I had the old start collecting and this seems to be a good time to start because I got the new box as well. even with the redundant ethernal it's still a great deal
Buy what you think is cool applies no matter how experienced someone is - I will never understand those who chase the meta with 40k. I can understand playing YOUR army optimally, like doing the math hammer on loadouts or whatever but chasing the meta in regards to entire armies is just baffling. Why Fusion Collider on the Ghostkeel? I can't see much use for that gun when it's only 1 S higher than the CIR and melta range conflicts with its 'cant be targeted' range, and also needs to be in melta range to out damage the CIR.
Hi. Rather late to the Party. Tau is going to be my second army and i just bought the combat patrol box. I rather want to run a strike team than a breacher because of asthetics. Question: why don't you use drones on those teams in your list? Sorry I'm a total Tau newbie and 40k in general
Welcome to the greater good. A drone is at least 8 points and so is a fairly expensive investment to save a single fire warriors that is worth just about the same cost but has core and a bunch of synergy
@@InvasiveWargaming hi, me again. Sorry to bother. I was just wondering if there's any way to include a broadside battlesuit in the 1000 point list and if it would make sense at all? I'm bulding this list right now :)
What I'm wondering... if I want to switch Septs do I have to repaint the whole army? This is really paralyzing to even paint anything... that if rules could change everything could be trash. :(
That's the cool thing about tau: you can paint the armour whatever colour you want. Tau operatives often adapt their armour colour to the environment in which they fight. Then you add the so-called "sept markings", aka small lines and details painted in the colour of the sept. So basically you need to repaint just the sept markings and nothing else
@@Daarkreth That's a bit better yeah... but I doubt I have the precision to replace just those, plus those are in many places on parts of the armor, too... I don't know... I have so many models but I'm paralyzed in building them and painting anything because I'm afraid to pick the wrong option. :(
@@TashiMortier unless you are a tournament player that is playing top tier events and wysiwyg is required, don't stress it! regardless of your modeling talent/skill, it's a hobby to enjoy. if you are happy with the color scheme and markings, then you be proud of your accomplishments. the only person you need to impress... is yourself. everyone else is just a spectator - not a critic.
I've got a board control list that I'd like reviewed. Patreon kind of burned all of its bridges with me after their actions in Canada. Any way I can get a list and your review fee to you without having to "patronize" those guys?
I've been waiting on CPAP recovery from well over a decade of rather severe sleep apnea (95 apneas per hour, for those who know) to give me back fine motor skills to start collecting (again). Since I have unpainted commander, 2x crisis, and fire warriors from a failed-start in 2015, I made a plan for a 1k Bor'kan army; - Stormsurge w/ multi-tracker, Blastcannon, Twin Airburst, Velocity Tracker - Coldstar (Warlord) w/ Overdrive Power Systems, Seeker of Perfection, Airburst, Fusion B, High-o Burst, Missile Pod w/ Resonator Warheads, 2x shield drones - 2x Crisis Bodyguards w/ Cyclic, Fusion B, Missile Pod, 4x Shield Drone - 2x Strike Teams with no additions - Pathfinder Team w/ 2x Rail Rifles, Shield Drone Addition plan for larger army include Kroot, Stealth Suits with Homing Beacon, Ethereal, 1x Devilfish, and Broadsides
Alternatively, I could swap Resonator Warheads for Dominator Fragmentation Launcher, and the Pathfinders + chips for 4x Marker drone squad, 2x Marker Drones in each of the Strike Teams, and a Fireblade with Promising Pupil + Through Boldness, Victory
@@Eschatonin6666 I suggest you get 9th ed codex. there are some significant changes to units sizes, how drones are added to units, points per unit and different wargear options. if your group allows point purchase of various items from older codexes, then some options you listed will be fine, if you play strictly 9th ed, then certain items need to change.

@@pierlucamarrocco9351 not at all. Ive been playing this game since the 90s. Ever since the introduction of Tau they are either Trash or over powered. AND the followers of the Fish people only come out when they are too good.

Started with 2 Start Collecting sets and 2 Broadsides. Added a Commander shortly after and I'm loving it!

5 x 0.5mm magnets are fab if you don't want to drill the models, just glue them to the flat surfaces, and they look really cool
This is so helpful! It can be very intimidating looking at all the different builds and models when getting into Warhammer.
