Theres so little advanced tau painting tutorials, thank you so much for putting this out there. All the geometric shapes are definitely a challenge when your used to only painting cylinders haha
i think the sa'cea scheme is my favourite, but all of them look amazing! currently painting my t'au in a farsight enclave-ish colour scheme (red & grey) :)
man these look so awesome. i am currently building a FSE army and made a wish come true for me as i never owned tau models and now i am. and finally they got more mobile again ... loving the new rules as well !
I feel like every time I watch your videos I find the perfect way to deal with a technique I have been struggling with for a while. Such amazing quality.
I paint around 4-6 armies per year for last 3 years, and now this is the right time to bring my own army on the table. I was wondering what colours to use, which scheme is right for me and fluff-friendly. First thought was "Farsight", but 3/4 of my paintjobs are focused on red. Vior'la is great and easy scheme, but booooring... UNTIL NOW. Great showcase how to make an amazing looking boxart scheme, thanks a lot!
I like the Blue and the White scheme. I often see and have a special love for the Tau sept scheme and don’t think you achieved it. It strikes my eye as a very successful non metallic bronze/copper scheme. I hope Tau miniatures make their way to your hobby desk more often. There isn’t enough Tau content out there and they are Good looking models.
I absolutely love your T'au Sept colour scheme. In part for the nostalgia factor, but for the most part because it looks way better then what GW did way back. And at last because it reminds me of the old bronze scuba suit.
Nice Video Trovarion. I’d be interested in a short vid on your take on what Khimera or other brands specific colors are stand out and why. Not a this vs that but more of a “Here’s why I like this” approach. Also it would be nice to see something short on some elaboration on approaches to story telling through balancing the figure in the setting (basing and basing materials)
wow simply amazing! i've had my tau 3-4k army for 15 years and recently bought and painted a few new units. i will be going through them for sure for the chipping and gradient looks awesome. thanks for this idea
For my T'au army I went for a tawny pink desert camo used in WW2 by the LRDG (the originators of the SAS, they painted their trucks pink). Feature colour for pads/ panels is a blue grey, which I picked because the combination looks so good on Kestrels (the bird of prey). Have just bought some Greater Good figures from Wargame Exclusive, will send you some pics when they're done!
Actually yes the LRDG where about before the SAS, they used to drive the SAS troops to their drop of point and pick them up after the mission, they did this before the SAS got their own jeeps. It was the SAS who thought of pink painted jeeps , and was still using that colour in the first gulf war, they stopped by the time of the second one. That's why you can buy SAS jeep kits that come in pink.
I have a color scheme for my Space Marines and Imperial Knights similar to your Voir'la, only most of the red is a rich blue-indigo (I hate to use the term ultramarine blue in 40K, but that's what it is), yet retains a few red accent points, highlighted with a fluorescent red. I think it would go pretty well on a T'au. I've got some models I'm building now, so we'll see how it goes when I get them painted. Love the inspiration here!
Seeing videos like this is a bit crazy for me. I’m one of the guys who pre ordered the original tau release box waaaaay back. Box had 10 kroot, 8 fire warriors, 6 gun drones, and 3 battle suits. For the pre order, we got the devil fish transport. And I bought 3 metal stealth suits.
Love me some Tau infantry units, and the colors you used really made it feel right. That fluo trick, though is exactly what I didn't know that I needed. Cheers, mate!
Is that big four legged thing a new Titan? It absolutely dwarfed those two Tau soldiers. I gotta say your paint job makes it look so life like, I swear it looks like it actually moves.
Love it. The idea to add the purple to the blue one is interesting. One thing that would work well is more panel lining in the armour. There is a lot of contrast to be gained. I pained the free GW T'AU fire warrior last week and it added a lot. Tried an oil wash at first but the dents are often times not large enough so i traced them by brush.
These are gorgeous, but there's nowhere near enough pink for my tastes. 😄 There's some good tips in here that, whilst I don't paint Tau (for myself, there's always been something more interesting/pressing in my POS) I do remember being fascinated with all the geometry when the first dex came out (back in 3rd. Yes, I am "That Old". Older actually)
N'dras sept. Vomit brown, scorched brown & black. Nostalgia? Lol XV15 metal models still operational here, now that's a 'mini' & have fun with your Tau✌️👽
Those look pretty dope man, thanks for sharing! Glad to see you're getting some good use out of those Kimera Kolours.. ive recently invested in some and have enjoyed them as well 🤘🏼
My feelings from these models (which are all awesome): The Vior'la scheme would definitely sell the best as a commission. It's everything you'd want. The T'au (gotta love the glottal apostrophe) scheme fits the base really well. An army like that (with some extreme brights on big guns) would looks sick. The Sa'cea is my personal favourite. It looks so cool and sleek but also like it has been in an actual battle. I'm not sure if the super-cool shadows fit the fiery warm base though...
One thing that always put me off of tau was that I thought they were boring sculpts but you're custom striping and painting overall made me a fan of these for sure! And I'm sure made the experience of eating them much more pleasing to your cat!😂 And I have to say that the Epic Basing product looks great! Definitely will be using them in a project I'm doing soon, a heavily kitbash/proxy CSM demon mix army where the CSM is going to be my own custom chapter kitbashed from slaves to darkness and other AOS models, like the good guys, can't recall the name of them lol, as if they were members of that order originally but fell to the influnce of Chaos...now reconise the true greatest warriors are the harvester of skullz and blood for thier new favorite hommie the red fella 😉
Your videos are inspirational, thank you! I've just started painting my first mini in almost 20 years, a tyranid hormagaunt. Would love to see how you would professionally paint one of them...or lots of them. I've gone for purple skin/skeleton, orange carapace and green talons and claws. I'm struggling to get a nice finish on such a small mini. Probably not the best size model to start learning.
I don't like most Tau colour schemes because they don't look futuristic enough. There was bluish-purple with neon orange highlights that someone showcased in a White Dwarf years ago, but I can't remember which issue. I would love to use that colour scheme.
Tau released during an extended break from the hobby for me (Necrons, too) so I never really got into them. Recently though I have looked at them more, and I really do like the Battle Suits, and how even the basic troops are sort of just like mini Battle suits. I have been thinking about starting a Tau army maybe as my next project. I love painting armour as well, there is a lot you can do with it. PS: I liked the first one the best. I am a fan of grey and red, so this one stands out most to me. also it goes really well with the base you designed. PPS: I must check out that basing company.
I think the classic theme is tan, yeah? I mean they changed it, but uh, call me traditional, I particularly prefer the old tan and brown Tau, given the tan was really a golden brown heading to yellow (closest to your 2nd, but not quite). Anyway, brilliant as always!
Could you paint a luminary realm lord vanari dawn rider I would like to see the out come and the techniques you use on the character and the horse mount
Do you put dish soap into your contrast wash mixes, please? and by "dish soap" do you mean the green liquid I use to wash my dishes, please? (also how much, please? I assume it's the tiniest amount?)
Im late to the video also very new to the hobby i just bought the tau kill team i dont love the colors of the tau and when even i see them i think darkened steel and more metallic colors like gold for the leader and they look awesome
have you ever used the green stuff world version of micro sol and micro set? I need to buy some for my own minis, and was going to get the GS world versions as they're cheaper.
I could watch you do an hour tutorial on the just basing ideas from what you showed us here! The Nighthaunt one alone gave me a bunch of ideas for the pile of plastic in my closet! Are any of those on your patreon?
Most of these bases were made by epicbasing - they just sent me the videos to use in the ad. You can find them on instagram instagram.com/make_it_epic?
I always though my T'au looked really good, now i'm not so sure about it anymore :D But I REALLY need to pick up an airbrush, these basecoats are just so good. I have to do mine with overbrushing or spray can zenithals, which was ok to start with, but starts to become a real showstopper now.
Probably someone said it already but as I can find it in the comment: When 3D printing if you remove the supports before curing they leave less of a mark, personally, I put the pieces in hot water for 5 minutes and they pop right off.
Little late to ask, but do you have a full guide for this on your patron. Also, how much of the viorla scheme can be done without an airbrush. Or will an airbrush free method be possible.
There is no additional material on patreon for this. Anything can be done without an airbrush, just takes more time and potentially more work to get smooth. Can always drybrush or layer or just block in the colors.
Do you use magnifying glasses to paint all the fine details and whatnot? All 3 schemes are great, it's made me want to pick up a start collecting set now haha
My nearsight is not the best anymore, so nowadays i paint as much with the magnifying glasses as possible. But it always was more relaxing to use the glasses.

man these look so awesome. i am currently building a FSE army and made a wish come true for me as i never owned tau models and now i am.

White/red scheme is great and feels more "realistic" but the orange just pops so much! Love it!
I feel like every time I watch your videos I find the perfect way to deal with a technique I have been struggling with for a while.

Great vid! Your video is so relaxing to watch but man when you absorb the techniques they're so depth and a bit daunting!
Love that reveal music at the end. My personal favorite is the gold/bronze scheme, but they all look great. Thanks for the upload
I like the Blue and the White scheme.
I often see and have a special love for the Tau sept scheme and don’t think you achieved it. It strikes my eye as a very successful non metallic bronze/copper scheme.

Love me some Ta'u!! This is a great video and you just don't see enough of 'em out there for these guys.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who removes these undercuts :D
All 3 of these are gorgeous. I'm so impressed.
I always feel like I’ve learnt so much after watching one of your videos. Thanks for all the help and advice.
Lov the honesty, " i cant paint a strait line to save my life". Lov it.
Amazing! Your are the only tutorial which I watch from begin to end. Always entertaining and formative.
I've used decals for the first time and I love them
Great to have a video from you. Always look forward to what you have to share!
I love the golden Tau. So nice.
This is perfect I’m painting my stealth battle suits for the Au’taal sept and this video has given me a couple of ideas thanks.
Really made the tau sept look banging there dude, as are they all. Great video as always.
Is that big four legged thing a new Titan?
It absolutely dwarfed those two Tau soldiers.
I gotta say your paint job makes it look so life like, I swear it looks like it actually moves.

lg
Man these came out incredible! Stunning results with a very ilustration like vibe to them.
I want this music playing in my head while I'm painting, I'd be so productive!
The Blue...looks amazing.
the 80s training montage music just fits so well
Very nice paintjobs! having airbrushing in your videos is really nice as well.
Heya Trovarion, fantastic video yet again! you seem to have a lot of fun with these models for sure (except the straight lines :p)
Wow you even blurred out the finish models in the beginning of the video, awesome!
Amazing couldn't chousse witch I liked best.
Nice job trovarion
Of your three, I like the last one. But my favorite color scheme is gray and purple with that Decepticon vibe :)
Love all those schemes and I'll definitely be replicating some of this for my Sa'cea T'au (apostrophes!)
Those all look absolutely amazing! You make it look so easy!
I love the look of these, it is inspiring stuff. I am debating on getting some T'au to paint.
As always, a great reminder that light will look better with a bit color in it.
you saved the best for last imo.. insightful video as always!
If a multiple golden demon winner can't draw straight lines... what chance do us mortals have?!!!
Great content as always though! Glad you're back!
These are gorgeous, but there's nowhere near enough pink for my tastes. 😄

@13:00 came for the painting. Stayed for The Basixx!
Came here for tau scheme and volumes inspiration... going back with a lesson on how to paint!
wow, those printable base object are pretty cool
They are amazing! I am so happy I found them!
3:39 did a video ever get uploaded to Patreon? I subscribed a tew months ago to watch this video but could never find it 😭
Next week on Trovarion does Tau, full gold NMM commander far-sighted.
N'dras sept. Vomit brown, scorched brown & black. Nostalgia? Lol XV15 metal models still operational here, now that's a 'mini' & have fun with your Tau✌️👽
I still have these SOMEWHERE, but I couldn't find them for the video :(
I know it’s dumb but I’m making my tau gold and need a lot of help I’m new and you’re Tutoriales helps so much
Awesome job! I like all of the schemes!
Those look pretty dope man, thanks for sharing! Glad to see you're getting some good use out of those Kimera Kolours.. ive recently invested in some and have enjoyed them as well 🤘🏼
I find for the T'au sept colours you need to throw a little of the dark red to the colour scheme makes it feel less monotone.
Can you show more how you do the weapon glow? I am not fully understanding. Thank you!
My feelings from these models (which are all awesome):
The Vior'la scheme would definitely sell the best as a commission. It's everything you'd want.

The Sa'cea is my personal favourite. It looks so cool and sleek but also like it has been in an actual battle. I'm not sure if the super-cool shadows fit the fiery warm base though...
Thanks for this!! I’m going to pick up some bases.

Oh so that's why the XV-25 legs look like that! I was pretty confused about how the plates were meant to work...
Great work. Keep up the fantastic content
The best color scheme for ghostkeels, stealthsuits, and Shadowsun is a 1:1 recast in smoky clear resin.
if you're really lazy just buy a second base, spruce it up and write what it is on the underneath and you have a cloaked ghostkeel
Inspiring! Looking at collecting a T’au force now…
My 6 year old son was so amazed how good you can paint. He decided he liked the first one best
What's your son's name?
It's Felix
My belief: the most important thing in Warhammer painting is to break the impression of "plastic toy soldiers". This is especially difficult with Tau!
I don't like most Tau colour schemes because they don't look futuristic enough.
There was bluish-purple with neon orange highlights that someone showcased in a White Dwarf years ago, but I can't remember which issue. I would love to use that colour scheme.
A purple scheme is what I went for! Not many examples other than google images
I think I just got some inspiration for how to paint some of my Battletech mechs. Thanks!
That's awesome!
Tau released during an extended break from the hobby for me (Necrons, too) so I never really got into them. Trovarion the master painter vs strait lines. Who will win?
Sick! Great stuff! 💜

Is there a video better explaining how you shade the panels around sharp corners?
Your best video to date 💪
Excellent! Thank you, Sir! ❤
Im late to the video also very new to the hobby i just bought the tau kill team i dont love the colors of the tau and when even i see them i think darkened steel and more metallic colors like gold for the leader and they look awesome
splendid work, verry inspiring, thanks ^^
Great lesson! And as a bonus I hate T'au a little less after this... A little.

@@trovarion thanks for the referral. I’m new to 3D printing as well and need all the good companies I can get. Epic Base’s products look perfect.
@@hobbithubby5076 everything i printed from them was absolutely great so far! You can also order printed parts from them if you dont have a printer
Great now I want to buy all that fluorescent paint😂. All of these shemes look super interesting ngl
As always such a good vid but also where can we see some of these scenes you’ve made with the basing materials here? Especially love the Pokémon one!
instagram.com/make_it_epic? it's made by them!
strangely enough the Tau Sept is my fav scheme when you do it lol. Normally its my least favorite scheme of the faction but you made that look good.
I accidently bought fluorescent paints like 10 years ago, have never used them after I realised what they were.
White and red ♥️
I always though my T'au looked really good, now i'm not so sure about it anymore :D
But I REALLY need to pick up an airbrush, these basecoats are just so good. I have to do mine with overbrushing or spray can zenithals, which was ok to start with, but starts to become a real showstopper now.

personally, I put the pieces in hot water for 5 minutes and they pop right off.
Yeah, was my first print, I realised right after that I forgot to do it before curing.
“The voilà scheme”. You have just renamed my favourite sept and I refuse to call it anything else ever again!
The white guy look blue, the blue guy looks white and the orange guy looks purple... this problem again, Trov!?
Just kidding, you are a genius!
You can actually get white markings by using the red transfers but reversed.

My nearsight is not the best anymore, so nowadays i paint as much with the magnifying glasses as possible. But it always was more relaxing to use the glasses.
How did you feel the flou blue was to work with compared to the Orange? I have both but felt the blue has an odd consistency? maybe i just have a duff bottle
I feel the blue is more consistent than the orange. So exactly the opposite. I have a hunch that these bottles are hit and miss :(
I don’t see a more in depth tutorial of this on your Patreon. Is there one?
3, 2, 1...Annnnnnd, now I think I can't paint again... Great. Grey tau back on the shelf for another few months.
