- Seth takes a closer look at former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, where House impeachment managers laid out powerful evidence of his guilt while most Republican senators had no interest in holding him accountable.

Remember 45 is the same person who said, "I can go out and kill someone in Time Square and get away with it." So here we are!
WORD!
It could just be me, but I've noticed some commenters using the phrase "so here we are" since the iconic Randy Rainbow served up his delicious parody "Sedition!" based on the famous theme from "Fiddler on the Roof". Love it.
and we all know the 44 people who enable him to get away with it
While the unwashed chitfuque mob rallied around Kathy Griffin to behead Trump
Actually he said he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters.
He was impeached WHILE in office, for something he did WHILE in office.
The statement that you typed is logical to you and I and most of the people that watched the video but to Republicans, it didn't land. To them it was just crickets chirping.
@@coreystewart8322 They're the same people that believe Donnies bullshit, so there's no suprise there.
@@coreystewart8322 doubt that all republicans are trumpians. but the bigger issue is that there only 2 parties which forces you to pick a side.
Wait he was impeached? Then why did he serve the rest of his term, why was he up for re election.
Being impeached means you can't run for re election and if impeached on a serious charge related to treason you can not finish your term.
As noted in history of the last impeachment, the president finished his term as the charge was not of a serious treasonable offense.
What they are doing now is attempting to prevent him from running for office again and unless the confirmation on such a conviction is agreed upon it is likely we will see him in 2024.
So while the statement is partially correct, it falls extremely flat on context related to such a subject matter and sparks very hyperbolic language by those who "know" what happened and creates rumors which are generally of a distasteful nature for constructive dialogue.
But considering most Americans think with their emotions rather than actual facts, prove able evidence and sound logic. Constructive dialogue is hard to find in honest nature.

“The smaller the story Fox News is focusing on, the larger the story is that they’re ignoring.” Perfect.
Just like when a new war broke out in the South-Caucasus with thousands of deaths and CNN reported on the fly on Mike Pence's head.
There may be a bit of projection there. I seem to remember news outlets like CNN and MSNBC completely ignoring Trump brokering a peace treaty between Israel and several Arab nations.

The issue of the constitutionality of impeaching a President after they are out of office is irrelevant. Trump was still President at the time of his impeachment.
There's nothing in the Constitution that requires the trial to occur while in office. Impeachment has multiple purposes, they hoped none would be needed but Trump met every purpose and new ones
@@KNR90 i dunno angry rick moranis made an angry rant, granted he cited nothing but he is angry rick moranis so we should trust him.
that doesn't make it irrelevant. The point they are making is that impeachment is usually meant as an effort to remove a President in a following vote. Otherwise it is meant to let someone know he/she should watch his steps very carefully. They've argued he was basically above the law during his Presidency. This is a continuation and the constitution does offer some wiggling room, sadly... After a Presidency, impeachment serves no true goal. They may want to bar him from the Presidency, but that's another constitutional swamp in which you'll need a big fat majority - and that has been the problem for a while now. Technically, impeachment means: The process of charging a public official, such as the U.S. president or a federal judge, with a crime or misconduct, which results in a trial by the senate to determine whether the official should be removed from office. So legally, meh...
It is also a sign to the public and themselves that they do not really want to pursue this effort. Like McConnel going along with the impeachment - i.e. allowing it is a signal that this was a step too far. No matter what's in the constitution, their frustrated base must remain somewhat pleased. You've seen what happened to Pence... So they won't take a hard stance, safe for a few exceptions.
@@corbeau-_- It is irrelevant though.. You completely missed the point they made. Just because Trump is no longer president, he was when articles were voted on. So the process can go on. It's also not just to remove them. It exposes them to felony consequences should the Senate find them guilty, and also allows them to be barred for life from holding any public office. That's not a constitutional swamp. Constitutionally its relatively simple. It's only a swamp because of the corruption Trump encouraged
@@IXSICNESS Completely irrelevant

As long as the president has executive powers, he is liable for the consequences of his decisions, acts and instructions
Too bad no one is holding him accountable for his war crimes and emoluments clause violations.
Anyway, I'll take what I can get I guess...
He never actually instructed anyone to go to the Capitol. He was repeating a plan that he understood to be true. Also he told people to assemble peacefully. By definition, riots or insurrections are not peaceful. Therefore he did not incite anything at all.
@@TCt83067695 yes. Accountability to oneself and ones society is the underpinning of our contemporary society.

Also, you can't wind people up for months and then when then go crazy say it's not my fault when when they did what you have been intimating. For months he repeatedly urged his supporters to STOP the transition of power and the only way his supporters could have done that was to stop the events on 6th January from taking place, which is what they tried to do. His supporters did exactly what he asked them to do and the fact that he did nothing to stop the insurrection, and instead told the insurrectionists that he loved them, says all you need to know.
So their defense is that if a doctor was being sued for malpractice and they quit before the trial, that means they should stop the malpractice suit after all they are no longer practicing.. they are out of office now... correct... great now we know the intelligence of anyone who is using this type of defense.

Quick cultural heads up from Australia: "Doof" is pronounced to rhyme with "woof" - a "doof" is another term for a big dance gathering/rave. It's an onomatopoeic word, alluding to the percussive thumping of dance music. :)
Gee, over here it's just short for 'doofus'.

Leslie lives up to his week name.
Bonus points for using "onomatopoeic" in a sentence. A+.
Sweet!
Why would the GOP help now? They helped enabled the insurrection attempt at every opportunity they had.
Because if they let Trump walk this time, Biden could theoretically tell Capitol police to take the day off in January, allowing any joe schmoe to go in and massacre congress and it would be legal (for Biden.) I want to say the Republicans know they're between a rock and a hard place, but they're either too stupid to realize they're about to open the door for a vindictive president to purge congress on the reg or they think themselves untouchable despite having been meters away from an angry mob out for blood and likely too stupid to even know which party any given politician belongs to just a few weeks ago.
A this point, the republicans are just bad faith actors, period. Wherever they hold an office, they need to be removed ASAP. It's a cult, not a party.
They know their day is coming. They are set on acquitting him because if they convict him, knowing that they were enablers in the insurrection, they would be saying that they are also guilty. If they acquit him, they’ll be able to say “ if he didn’t do anything wrong, how could we do anything wrong?”
Yep you'd think they'd be more vocal about it. I sensed ZERO urgency. And I find that curious.
I'm interested in knowing what Trump said that ACTUALLY lead to any of the chaos that happened at the capital? Or is it enough to just say he did something so egregious enough times to then make it a reality? Rub two brain cells together and listen to the speech he gave unedited. If you start to think for yourself and actually look at what happened without the liberal filter you might come to the truth. Just saying, be more than a parrot.
If Trump goes ahead and makes his own party, then the GOP is truly screwed. The majority of their voters are full in on the cult of Trump and would quickly drop the GOP and join Trump's party. If that happens, the only ways for the GOP to remain in power are to either defect to Trump's new party or convict him here and bar him from holding office. Part of the political calculus could also be for the GOP to vote against removal, then hope the various lawsuits land Trump in jail and unable to run for office. That way they continue sucking up to his cult members and let the state courts do the work they are too afraid to perform.
"The facts don't matter when your mind is already made up to acquit." - Every Republican senator in this trial
What were Nancy Pelosi, and the entire Democrat's hiding, that, they-swiftly stopped/concluded the hearing, their hiding something? Was it the Democrats that preplanned the attack to blame it on Trump, they knowing of the rally planned for that day? They knew Trump lawyers would have asked Nance Pelosi why she denied the request for the National Guard.
The house managers doctored evidence....cheaters!!!
I’m still convinced if it was a secret vote, the result at this impeachment would be very different.
"It's called the transition, not the purge." YES.
I actually wrote this down as I was watching (I journal my thoughts a lot to help deal with anxiety. As a kid, my therapist recommended here and 14 years I'm still doing it). With the argument republicans are using, if you wanna kill someone, you can get away with it by running for any office and when you're leaving, you can kill someone without charge.
I dont understand how current republicans can live with themselves. I mean I used to be leaning more right than left. He's being investigated of state crimes and corruptions. Whether you like it or not.

Read article 1, section 5, clause 2.
For brevity's sake.
"Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member."
That applies to House Representatives and Senators of the United States Congress and is not impeachment.
A handful of states allow recall elections of Congressional members.
Impeachment applies to the President and all presidential appointees like Vice President, Supreme Court justices and district court judges.
A Governor being the chief executive of his or her state are impeached by the same rules that apply to the President of the United states.

I should have checked. You are a new channel troll.
As an Australian I've gotta little bone to pick here, 'Doof Warrior' is meant to be pronounced like a dog would 'woof' or a train would 'choof'. In Australia we call festivals or parties out in the country with dance music and neo hippies and stuff 'Bush Doofs' because the music goes 'doof doof doof doof'. There's a bit of a look that goes with that scene too so I reckon they've called him the Doof Warrior because he looks like he's at a bush doof and he's playing music and that.
I love Bane. And Seth's Bane impression. :)
Ted Cruz using a Tick wash that gets rid of ticks? He is a tick!
It's also not working he is still covered with blood suckers
If Cruz is a tick, encourage him to use the special dog shampoo.
Ted Cruz, putting the "tic" back in "politic"... okay that joke works better if you don't have to write it out.
@jeremyb41 Who is this directed to?
Sean hannity would just interrupt everyone on his list...
right, declining from an idiot to a moron 🤦♀️
That is why they would never go on there. He would just cut them off and mute their mic. Hannity's entire purpose is to influence public opinion; he has no scruples or any desire to investigate, learn, or understand.
This is how toddler blames other kids in front of his mom.
Faux news switching from actual news is the equivalent of jingling keys in front of a toddler
My brothers used to feed me Milk Bones as a kid. They tricked me into thinking they were cookies! Our Mom caught them doing it in our backyard one day. She totally freaked out and ALMOST killed them! When our Dad came home~he made them sit down at the table. He had them eat a dinner plate of dog biscuits as their punishment. Our Dad was WW2 Army Air Corps military policeman. He took NO SHIT~they were given the choice of that OR some kind of corporal punishment. They were like NOPE~we'll eat a plate of dog biscuits! 😂
Incompetent defense for an incompetent man priceless.
"It's pie night, bitches!" is my favorite line Seth has said in a long time lol
I love the way you give your comment, it makes me smile. Thank you! Btw, i like your shirt!
Agreed, Seth. Why should the standard of jury duty be any different for them? If there should be any difference it should be that it is held to a higher standard, and if it is proven that they can’t be impartial, they should be disqualified from being apart of the jury. Does that make too much sense?!
I'd rather have a family of immigrants as neighbors than just one Ingraham.
Hear, hear!
When are we going to see Trump's Tax Returns?
Once this is over the law suits in court will start, wonder who gets him first Georgie or New York?
Don't worry, they'll be out in two weeks, along with all the evidence of voter fraud.
And when you ask again in two weeks, I'll just say "two weeks" again.
@@KingBobXVI The only reason Trump is crying voter fraud is because that's what he did to win.
Anyone else hoping Summer with the Sea Captain becomes an annual tradition?
Seth Myers is fantastic!
The hot coffee case was wildly misrepresented and pushed by corporate greed. That woman got 3rd degree burns and there had been many complaints about that McDonald's.
You're exactly right, she nearly died from her injuries. Far beyond reasonable levels of "Hot Coffee". And she won her case, which also shows that McDonald's was in the wrong and now has to keep their coffee at regulated temperatures.
Didn't she do something incredibly stupid, that no semi-cognizent person would do, like hold the cup with her thighs? And, now all of us can only get lukewarm coffee. She was found mostly responsible, but McDonald's had deep pockets, so had to pay for their 10% culpability. The fact she won any monetary reward is more a strong argument for tort reform.
@@deborahfreedman333 o she not do anything incredibly stupid, but McDonald's did try to slander her and spread rumors to discredit het. The coffee was 190 degrees Fahrenheit. That temperature causes burns third degree burns in 3-7 seconds. This woman needed skin grafts.
McDonald’s quality assurance manager testified that McDonald’s coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into Styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat.
McDonald’s admitted at trial that consumers were unaware of the extent of the risk of serious burns from spilled coffee served at McDonald’s then-required temperature. They admitted that they did not warn customers of the nature and extent of this risk and could offer no explanation as to why they did not.
Bring back Sea Captain.
lol I almost spit out my morning smoothie when he said "... a box of human snacks" and it was a box of treats.
Lolol “if you ask me, T**** should be washing his hair with his dog’s shampoo”! Lol the most random ending I’ve seen for a Closer Look before, Seth! 😂 that one made me laugh out loud and go: 😯😄❔
I am not going to lie, I had to use dog shampoo because I ran out of my own.....
My hair was never softer...
🤣😂
Some have used horse shampoo, with good results.no kidding.
And you know your safe because it's tested on humans.
However, have you seen the conditions the humans have to live in. The dogs have the humans in little cages and squirt the shampoo into their eyes and stuff like that.

“If you didn’t want to the bullies to go after you for being fat, you should have made an effort to lose some weight. This is YOUR fault, not theirs.” - Jason Miller as a school principal.
So the argument goes if you're being bullied it's your own fault.
