Inverting a mini LEGO donut

- Here is the short for the mini LEGO donut: • The Mini LEGO Donut | ...
As suggested by ℕ𝕒𝕤𝕖𝕖𝕞 in that video's comments, “What if you did an inverted version where the curved side is on the inside?”
That was a very good idea, and to be honest I’m surprised that it worked so well. You can see that it doesn’t really want to hold together as it’s constructed, but once all the pieces are in place it does manage to hold itself together quite nicely.
So I give you a mini LEGO donut, and its inverse--both of which are amazing little builds. 😁

Piece breakdown
Mini Donut: Half round 4x8 plates (52), 1x1 round plates (104)
Inverted Mini Donut: Half round 4x8 plates (51), 1x6 plates (51)
Notes:
1. I used 1x6 plates on the inverted mini donut rather than 1x8's, as the corners of the 1x8's hung out over the smooth inner curve.
2. It's interesting that the inverted mini donut works better with 102 layers rather than the 104 in the mini donut. Not entirely sure why that is, but for some reason the 104 layer inverted donut is just a little bit squidgy. I'm assuming there's a very slight height difference between the 1x1 round plate and the 1x6.

Lego instructions: you remember this 50 step part? Now do it again
This guy: So you remember how you attach these two pieces? Now do it 60 times more
Hmmm. This is fascinating! Now having seen it reversed, I kind of wonder if the could be combined. I see it in my head, but no clue if it works.
How did you reverse it?
Like alternating which way the curve is? That would be interesting
Maybe just sliding the reversed one inside of the regular one
And of course, make the regular one bigger so it could fit
Hypothetically speaking it works even with a rectangle
Not Functionally necessary, but the inverted wheel would have looked nice with the orange studs on either side of the planks to provide a splash of color.
As impressed as I am with this how you did this I'm more impressed that you had enough of the same pieces to replicate not 1 but 2 Dyson vacuum model components. Well done 👏 👏👏
Now imagine attatching round pieces to the outer rim using the dibits between large and small round pieces as places to connect them.
You mean the last part?
@@kennethfung3618 the last part of what?
@@alecity4877 the video
@@kennethfung3618 this video? The previous donut one?
No, in both it has a flat side.
He did a full toroid once (few months ago) but with a different method.
Oh you mean like a donut inside another donut?
Im guessing using the fully circular bricks instead of the semicircles would create a full torus rather than a flat-edged one?
I think or it wouldn't work idk
Yes it would. He has made it before in this video:
ruclips.net/video/Y3_DlfarDEk/видео.html
Ah ha! Thank you very much!
Now THAT is how you use a video link!
@@loganshalloe5927 oh yeah lol, he's done so many of these it's hard to keep track
@@loganshalloe5927 ok
YES! I made one of these a couple of weeks ago - in lime, with 1x4 plates. Talk about springy - getting it to stay put was crazy, and yes - less plates.
Very springy!
The framerate and the thing spinning making it look like it was spinning backwards was surprisingly satisfying.
The second one looks like it's gliding and not really spinning, so weird lol
Wow! It made me so happy to see my idea on the channel. Thanks for including it!
It was a GREAT idea, and a really beautiful build 😁
They’re both extremely satisfying forms.
Hi Brick Bending you’ve probably seen me here before ,but WE just wanna say thank you for the amazing vids and that you take the time to heart basically everyone’s comments.
You are legend

Thank you😊
Wait. don't stop! I'm not done watching it roll from many angles! So frigging cool.
And I thought I'd be pushing your patience 😂
I giggled like a child seeing the finished ensemble, never had a chance playing with Lego myself when I was a kid
These are illegal moves.
@@gatekeeper84 well, not for Mr. Brick Bender
absolutely LOVE the optical illusion effect this is awesome!!
Ah so that's how they make wheel, by turing donuts inside out.
i have no doubt this person has the power to turn a sphere inside out
Omg so illigal yet so satisfying 😁
you are a mad man for thinking of this
These are some very interesting 🤔 ideas and points you've come up with and across thanks FAM 👍
Great color combinations
The reverse was unexpected.
This insane! Wow!
Not sure what I was expecting, but pretty cool!
First, I nearly broke my brain trying to figure out how you were going to do this before I watched the video, this idea was super clever!! Secondly, those were serious Sauron vibes that eye at the end was giving off! 😮👍 Is there a way to make an inverted donut with a groove or track cut into both sides of the wheel to build a platform that would stay stationary as the wheel rolled? Like a giant wheel car for cave guy? Does that make sense? 🤨
Cool sound when wheeling!
Totally agree : )
Very cool!
You made me buy like over 100 of these i pieces but it I liked the different angles you could make with them .
therapist: inverted lego donut is not real
inverted lego donut:
i feel like you could make movie sound effects with the first one, kinda sounds like a motor when its rolled around
1:32 It literally looks like it’s barley spinning! Like, the circle should be spinning, but it looks like it’s only barley spinning! Which I think is so cool!
4:10
And if SpongeBob doesn't pass this one, it means another WHOLE YEAR OF BOATING SCHOOL!!
Fascinating! Would love to see you make squares!!
Nice, reminds me of a Cray Supercomputer
This is powerful and all the other lego builds like this. Image if the first kids to get legos knew this then taught the next gen after them and so on and so forth. In my mind this is revolutionary for me if I was younger and now.
Neat optical illusion.
This is going in my "feel good" playlist
Sir, that is magnificent as F.
Arguably a very stable wheel
3:40 Lego can be so satisfying sometimes
Amazing!!! I need to try it) that's why I need more semicircle
Sooo fascinating
Whoa that's much better
i was hoping you would put dot pieces on the outermost points of the half circle, or was there a reason that couldn’t be done?
The only reason I didn't is because I lacked the creative vision for such a good idea! I will be adding those if I have enough laying around.
Check the community posts for a picture. And thank you for the suggestion!
i can just picture this guy having a clean room for this stuff and can you wrap an inverse one with a regular one?
Now I want to build two of both of these and figure out how to use the as wheels for a LEGO vehicle.
Try making an actual donut with the 4x4 plate circles. That way to curve is around it completely not just half.
Combine them and make a full Lego donut with no flat edges
Good idea
Amazing
I wish they'd update Lego Worlds with the kinda level building they had in Lego Indiana Jones 2
I wonder how many Lego-Cavemen I've seen since watching you 😆
The reason RUclips now hides dislikes is because no sane person could possibly dislike a Brick Bending video.
Wow so cool
You should do a collab with The Q and custom fit inverted Lego donuts/wheels to one of his bikes :)
Now this is how you build a giant lego arc reactor for iron man
I love how all of the vids ive seen from u are just different illegal conections
wow everything you make is just hypnotic
That looks a bit like a jet engine
So cool
Welp. I didn’t know you could do this with legos. Pretty darn cool. The more you know.
This is making me want to get back into legos
The second one kinda looks like an arc reactor
Amazing💖💖😍😍
"Are you still there?" "Goodbye."
When it went "brrrrrt" - I felt that.
Argh this video is making me hungry😋😋
Will you ever do a tutorial on this? I have all the bits you listed as used and cannot get it to work :)
Its so good looking LEGO donut I have to build it on my own. What kind of blue colour is that?
It is theoretically possible to make an entire vehicle out of lego
Not theoretical cause someone did it
the inverted one looks like the wheel for a skateboard
Me: Mom I want an A-10 Warthog
Mom: No, we got A-10 at home.
1:32 *The A-10 at home
It's all fun and games until the grip gives up on itself.
Also, try a 4x4 round plate toroid with two 1x1 round studs. Those are cute, but the 6x6 lime toroid is still best.
4x4 round plates just won't hold together for me with incomplete connections (at least in the color I have). But I have upgraded the lime green toroid with 1x1 round plates. Future video coming on that and other 6x6 round plate variations. : )
@@BrickBending I've done a black 6x6 / 1x4 toroid, with pairs of mid azure 1x1 studs around the circumference for decoration - so that it looks like a glowing TRON identity disc from the movies TRON / TRON Legacy.
The thumbnail reminded me of Jewel’s “Pieces of You” album.
That looks like a futuristic speaker, maybe Harman/kardon could make something like it
Mans literally reinvented the wheel
@Brick Bending, First off, thank you so much for your videos! Can you please help guide me? I bought all the pieces, but when I try to build the donut, I cannot go beyond 3-4 curve pieces before it fall apart. how are you getting all of them to stick so easily together without falling apart?
"Can you invert a mini LEGO donut?"
Me: The answer is yes.
Well, Yes but actually, no
I do love the white magician gloves
I've grown quite used to them myself : )
this dude heard about illegal lego building techniques and said "I'm going to lego maximum security prison"
He made it guys he made it
There are so many illegal building technicues, it's stunning
Have you made a mobious strip?
I need to build that in yellow for my Sinestro! Watch out Green Lantern, the yellow battery is coming!
I was thinking about a lego donut, but then I saw the name of the channel
Imagine making a monster truck with this!
The world's first lego fleshlite
Would these handle a wheel on the inside, so you could use them as giant wheels for a car build?
Nice
I like it more inverted
Circles....in...lego..... ILLEGAL
This + bending lego = black hole generator
Now this is what we call
Logic
I think it look more like Stark ARC reactor, but with much less light
Now do the donut hole. 😆
the lego stress is real
Those parts look like they could be the basis of a very interesting new LEGO City set - "Nuclear Power Station".
After all, how do all those city sets get powered?
This can now be used as a wheel on a build
Do you have any ideas for creating 2 or even general n holed tori?
I do have some ideas. We'll see how they play out. 😁
this is how people make bearings in KSP
Ooohhhh that’s weird, but cool!
