Cried hard during that chris farley tribute. Just think if he had lived hed probably be in all the movies that kevin james did. Just imagine Chuck and Larry or Grown-Ups with Chris in it.
Josef Warto right? I thought i was just me, i couldnt tell if this song was meant to be sad but it felt that way, especially the part when he said this put a strain on my family
Same here, I get chills listening to this. And it makes me sad. There's a melancholy underneath this song. For a man with Sandler's experience in show business, wealth and fame to look back at his bar mitzvah as the happiest day of his life is kind of amazing. Usually people that famous seem pretty unrelatable, but it's really touching that Sandler shares our nostalgia for that adolescent feeling of discovery.
Andrew Williamson - No its a guy with a blanket over his body with eye holes cut out. Or its a member of the KKK....You choose. There was no need for your sarcastic comment.
This song and the Chris Farley tribute song really hit me in Sandler's special. Sure he's a comedian but you definitely realize just how talented he is musically, Bar Mitzvah Boy could be a heartfelt radio song with tons of staying power (imo). The Farley tribute is more personal obviously, you realize how close they were and that makes it sad enough, but then the guitar solo hits and it was for real hard to hold back the tears, especially if you've lost a close friend. Loved Adam Sandler since the SNL days and especially They're All Gonna Laugh At You. God knows I wore that cassette tape out.
My son was invited to a Bar Mitzvah at 13. That sketch of the tall girls and short boys just about slayed me. That was EXACTLY how it looked...only the girls spent the time checking out the boys and the boys spent the time checking out the food.
I had to take my mom to the dentist so I downloaded this special so I could watch while I waited. I was in the car and it was SO HOT, the sun was literally burning me, but when that song was playing, a nice breeze came in through the window and it felt super good! I always feel and remember that when I listen to this song
Damn Adam was 13 back in 79; 40 years ago. Shit i was 13 only 13 years ago. Still one if the funniest men of all time. Grew up watching this man, both on film and on snl. An absolute legend.
I love it and I wanna watch the special now. BUT - and I can't believe this comment isn't here already - this is SOOOO similar to Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire! The particular rhythm that makes it catchy is pretty much the same, just slowed down here by Sandler. Am I the only one hearing this??
I've watched this 3 times now. He has made me laugh for years now. I would tell him if I ever saw him many thanks. The Farley tribute got me and he is a very good guitar player for sure. Keep up the good work Adam thanks for many laughs!
This song is fucking awesome... first time watching Sandler's special on Netflix i thought it was boring, but it's not, i enjoyed this Netflix Special...
This guy gave us 90's kids so much entertainment:). Keep on ROCKING SANDMAN!!!!! We're still with you:) Ps, I'm drinking a YooHoo right now because that's what cool kids still do...
I'm hoping Adam Sandler sees this!! My name is Kara from Hudson NH. I work at Hills Garrison elementary as a lunch lady. Myself and 3 other Co workers like to perform songs, dance and be goofy for the kids during lunch time. We dress up and bring in microphones. Our last performance was for spring break we dance, sing, hulahoop, and jump rope. We sang vacation by the go go girls. This Friday is lunch lady appreciation day. It would be amazing if Adam would help us and perform "the lunch lady" we lovvvvve the song and haven't performed it yet..... even if he would Skype with us for it. Please help us Adam. And others, help us spread the word!
Unlike most of the people in this comment section I happen to be a real fan of Adam Sandler and appreciate his comedy and everything he does. I'm happy Netflix doesn't cater to the negative people and continues to give him specials at work. Fuck anyone who says otherwise. This man was a huge part of my childhood and I still respect him.
I wish more people would give this special a watch, as bad as so many Sandler/Netflix projects have been. He's run through a lot of goodwill over the last several years with cash grabs and bad movies, but this is actually a good comedy special and uniquely Sandler but in a good way.
I know the song is meant to be in fun. It actually is a "Cliff Notes" version outlining Adam's entire movie, "You Are So Not Invited to My Bat MItzvah." (Also, very Billy Joel "We Didn't Start the Fire.) I know Adam is funny, and I always will adore what he did when he debuted his Chanukah Song live on "Saturday Night Live." But, in the absence of single critique among hundreds of comments here, I respectfully submit that it is a shame that the rite of "Bar / Bat Mitzvah" has been transmogrified from a holy and spiritual event, as it is in my Orthodox Jewish universe, into the travesty that it has become in Reform Judaism. Adam is spot-on: rabbis thinking they are cool on the dance floor, kids humiliated by their parents, the cost through the roof, the holiness of the day and the teachings of The Prophets lost in pursuit of the gifts and the reaching for The Profits. Making out in the closet. Getting drunk and barfing. It is a shame. Judaism as a way of life means something precious to me and to 10-15 percent of American Jewry, who are Orthodox and observe kosher and Shabbat traditions for their spirituality. This song speaks a truth, amid the jokes, that is so tragic, culminating with the truism that the average kid emerging from a reform temple bar mitzvah really celebrates that last day he ever again has to go to temple. It is a pity that so many American Jews do not know what they are throwing away. Thank you for considering this perspective, too.
There are times that I forget that Adam Sandler is actually quite talented.
Also that Chris Farley tribute was very touching.
hes not that talented when you consider that he copied weird al yankovics shtick

For some reason this song made me sad. Time is passing by quick.... love this song. The chorus gave me goosebumps

This special restored my faith in Adam Sandler
I was in shock for a couple hours after I watched it. It seems like he took all the criticism and decided to show he still had it.

A few months later I still re-watch this at least once a week while doing other house chores lol. It may actually be the best work in his career.
My bar mitzvah is in 5 hours so I’m pretty much obligated to watch this.
How did it go
Adam seemed genuinely happy with this. Better than his movie face.
A True Adam Sandler Classic. 👍🏻🪙👍🏻
