I was working with Goldie Hawn on a movie in 1997, and inbetween shots she was talking about her being half Jewish, and I couldnt resist bringing up this song to her. She had never heard it and in fact had no clue who Adam Sandler was at the time, again, this was 1997. So over the weekend I went out and bought a tape with this song, and on monday I played it for her.....Think about Goldies on film giggles, well, she went fully into that. one of the highlights of my career

I still say this was the all-time best version of the song. You can tell Adam's a bit nervous, but it has the most charm too.

This is still epic after all these years. I remember when this was brand new. I was 18 at the time. Adam Sandler is one of the most underrated actors of our generation.
And his range is pretty crazy too to do stuff like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore on one end of the spectrum and Uncut Gems and Funny People on the other.
Underrated? He’s literally referred to as one of the best actors of this era 😭 🤡
I don’t know about underrated necessarily or best actor of his era either… Great comic genius, absolutely. I think he kind of grew into the serious acting part. His dramatic roles show his dedication to his craft. I don’t think it necessarily comes naturally to him. But he has worked at it. And it shows.

The way he says a lighthearted Happy Hanukkah and he does light hearted statements like that in his concerts, I think that underneath it all he's really a nice down to earth kind of guy. I don't recall any stories of him ever being rude or standoffish to the public.

In the gospel of John verses 10:22-24 it says He was in Jerusalem for the Feast of Dedication (another name for Hanukkah) walking in the temple courts when His fellow Jews asked Him if He was the Messiah. He was healing lame people and giving people born blind sight yet they still doubted Him because He did not fit their narrative as a Conquering King to kick Roman control out of Israel. My teacher played this song yesterday because we were listening to holiday songs. The funny thing is, there is a Jewish kid in my class who looked extremely uncomfortable while this was playing and everyone else was singing along to it and laughing.
