  • In many of Manly Hall's lectures, he compares an contrasts Eastern and Western philosophical and spiritual thought, particularly the way each approaches life and living. In 1958, there was a growing interest in Zen and other Eastern disciplines (along with the popularity of Alan Watts), and Mr. Hall provides a way to understand and apply these principles for a contemporary Westerner.

    This lecture, titled "Satori: The Awakening of Intuitive Understanding", was delivered in Los Angeles on June 22, 1958.

      Gets a bit repetitive after a while. He raises very good points but many of his methods and solutions are out of date, especially given the abundance of distractions we live with as a people today. I've downloaded a ton of his lectures and listen to them during sports or commuting. Helps with navigating life however modern day society makes this a bit of a task.

MLP has been transformative in ever since discovering him and I agree whole heartedly with his message. But thats coming from me, not someone who disagrees with him or his approach. And during the 1960's the family still existed, work ethic was still at an all time high albeit the introduction of experimental perspectives. There were no cellphones or BLM or police bashing or shooting people on the face for gucci bags or graffiti. The honor system still existed to some degree, interactions were more qualitative. Unless you are living in the coutry or suburbs... the world that the majority of us exist in today is very different from the days of MLP.

    My nephew is one of the top students in his school. I think it is because i played with him A LOT when he was growing up. Every single day almost. I got to see him solve problems from a young age just for entertainment. Now he 11 yrs old and is really good at checkers and connect four. Seriously destroying even his teachers. He is really good at predicting your moves and he enjoys playing. His parent force him....but i guided him. I just let him do his thing and give advice. Even let him disregard my advice and let him figure it out on his own without getting mad or forcing him. I treated him like an equal who just needed to know the rules of the games. Love that kid with all my heart. He will be great.

The discussions of todays podcasts, videos and other talking channels are IN SUCH A DEEP NEGATIVELY STATE OF BEING THAT THE ONLY THING THEY ARE ABLE TO FOUND OUT WILL BE OF A CRISIS, A CATASTROFE AND OR END OF THE WORLD. nobody thought about a transformation of the incomplete human into the higher consiousness beings we already are..... This is a Tempararely life, us are a vibrational being first... If u focus on the wave it becomes particle... So arrogant to think we are at the evolutionary top of all the life of the multiverse. Keep your dreams alive, let circumstances not change u for the worse. or even rearrange you....

    Honestly anyone reading this, I assume you are "smart" as you are listening to a Manly P. Hall lecture in the first place. That being said, don't jump me for the following. I dissagree with the assertion that man can not read a newspaper and have a simultaneous conversation well. I regularly converse with my daughter while listening to classical music and transcribing classical literature into hand written copies to help internalize them. It requires training without doubt, but you can absolutely bifurcate your conscious. I give equal attention to both, and my daughter enjoys these talks enough to make them a regular occurrence without ever complaining that I don't pay attention. I am on the autism spectrum though, so generally have a not so standard approach.

    • @vajraman2067
      @vajraman2067 2 года назад +4

      I would agree to that. I would just simply include that true Satori, as understood in Zen, is All-Consuming. There is no place for consciousness to bifurcate to, as Satori is an All Encompassing, Unifying Experience. Hall is describing an immersion into a subject of study to its depths. Now I'm not on any Autism spectrum, so I don't know what it's like to have it. But I would guarantee you that you would feel differently, if you were (Hopefully you never will be) in a Life and Death combat situation. A divided attention in that situation, will get you dead, and I mean no disrespect to you.

    we are yearning for the union with god/infinity because we were born with it. it is our birthright, so on the subconscious level we know that something is missing. The key is first to understand how we lost it, how the well meaning parents are breaking the child's spirit and moulding it into their/society's expectation. only by understanding the process can we undo it. We need a new psychology because at the present the psychologists are broken themselves, so they can't possibly understand the whole of human psyche. Carl Youngs shadow work came quite close but unless the psychologist becomes mystic/ enlightened himself they are not going to see the whole. A satori is a glimpse into the god/ infinity, it often comes in Near Death experiences as pineal gland dumps bigger amounts of DMT into our brains. The problem is that when the mind comes back from this state it tries to comprehend/ structure it and often thinks it gives them some moral superiority to other people. There is a part in our brain which if stimulated by electrodes gives a person a deep spiritual experience, so all the gurus that somehow claim that there are special by being 'enlightened" just selling to the audience a lot of hot air imo
