Manly P. Hall: Adjusting to the Results of Personal Growth

  • Manly P. Hall is often thought of as an Occult writer and Freemason scholar. It is true that did speak on these subjects, however, the majority of his works center around applying Ancient Wisdom for the everyday problems of modern life. He focuses on the individual - that is - what YOU can do to make the necessary adjustments to live a more harmonious life in the world.

I’ve listened to dozens of these over the last year and this is up there among my favorites.
    “Growth is not uncomfortable.
An individual trying to claim virtues he does not possess will be uncomfortable.
But if he is merely claiming the birthright of that which he is, the only thing that can make him uncomfortable is his failure to make the claim.
He is resolved and determined to live from the best of himself.”
There are countless other meaningful insights in this video. Thank you for keeping this Manly’s words alive.

    Problem
21:46 - "We are trying to be something, that we have decided to be, before we know what we ought to be." -Hall.
This is a loop we put ourselves in, emphasizing the destination, and not the process of how we get there.
The destination is important, but only as important as what you do when you get there.
    Solution
23:10 - "Always allow for growth. We must always allow that the future may cause us to see new things in a better way. Or, even old things with more intelligence." -Hall
There is a sort of uncertainty, or inherent risk that you must understand. Knowing that now, you are better prepared to accomplish the goals of yesterday, and in a position to create better goals. This is continual growth.

8:54 Does knowledge lead to growth? Knowledge can lead to growth. Knowledge can lead to learning but we can also take post graduate courses in various types of information which only enables us to become schemers, only permits us to take further advantage. We may study law to discover the loop holes in it. We may variously inform ourselves but information is not necessary growth. Information or knowledge can contribute to growth only however if this knowledge is properly and honorably used. Therefore knowledge must be excepted into the conscious of the individual, must be used as the basis of the strengthening of his own character and unless he becomes personally something better, the accumulation of knowledge will not of itself guarantee any general improvement of his nature. There have been a number of very brilliant persons possessing a great deal of knowledge who have not found either happiness, security or honor from this knowledge itself but have used it for their own detriment and for the detriment of other people.

How many of you fellow listeners experience others having adverse reactions to the act of listening to these lectures. Not because of preaching it, but merely because of incidental exhibition of material of this nature. It's as if others who aren't prepared for or advanced enough to handle this material have some sort of an allergic reaction to even a suddle exposure to it. Am I alone in experiencing this?

I have spent many years listening to him imparting his wisdom . I also research intensively on spiritual wisdom and can say categorically he was the and still remains the single most scholarly person who was and still is the top of his game. What INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! WISDOM the likes I think we will never see again.
