I love the last batch you showed us....especially the Gallo. I have done this with walnut dye I harvested from my walnut trees. Quite messy I might add. But my papers were amazing and dark and grungy. I need to used some of my fabric....that was a great idea. Thanks Margaret 🌼

Thank you for your amazing videos, I am new into this world and a bit lost with so much information in internet. Your videos are very clear and made me decide to start trying dyeing and trying. I have a question: I have some pieces of silk that were given to me, of very weird colors, I would like to dye them, maybe with dark colors using iron. How shall I do? Shall I eliminate their original color first? And how? Once again thank you for your generosity sharing so much information in your videos!
You are most welcome - so happy you found us here at Color Quest! Silk is fairly easy to dye with natural color, so personally, I wouldn't try to remove any of the previous color. You may get different results than expected, but it will be richer to have layers of color built up. Plus, silk is more delicate, so you don't want to stress it out too much. Be sure to wash well and pre-treat the silk with a mordant if you decide not to use iron (which acts as a mordant too). Best of luck!
