      Thank you so much, Debora! I am still traveling, but should be back more regularly soon 😊 Happy to hear I'm not the only one with a tendency to burn off - haha. Suppose it is worth it for the wonder that is botanical printing 🤎

      Working backwards through all of the comments the past month while I've been traveling, so guess you've already seen the big surprise 😉 It has been a wonderful time of exploration!

      Silk is always such a lovely fiber to print with and it just loves natural color 🤎

    Yay! Glad you're back! Hope your move wasn't too hectic! Wearing my shibori and indigo dyed linen shirt today! Wishing I was back in Baja to dye more stuff!

      Hi Eb - how cool to hear you are wearing one of your gorgeous creations from Baja 💕 The move was wild and exhausting and I had to leave my new place stacked with boxes since I am now traveling for the next 2 months. Hoping to catch up with all of you lovelies here in between stops along the way 😘 You must be getting excited for your adventure to Scotland next month too - safe travels and have fun!

    yey glad to see you back, hope you had a wonderful trip and the move went well! Looking forward to some footage from your trip (if you filmed it!) & looking forward to iron mordant with the eucalyptus - I reckon that's going to be the winner out of them all on silk :)

      Many thanks for all of your kind words! Not to worry - there will be a video of the incredible time we all had together at the Cookin' Color retreat in Baja 😊 You are so right about silk - it is so yummy in the botanical printing world 💕

    Good evening ma'am, How to prepare leaves before printing.

    • @MargaretByrdColorQuest
      @MargaretByrdColorQuest  5 месяцев назад

      Welcome to Color Quest! In this video, the leaves were fresh so I didn't do anything to them, but you can rehydrate them in water before using them which can help with printing. You can also soak them in an iron or acidic bath (vinegar) for color modification. Always fun to experiment and try different techniques 😊

    Do you maybe know how to turn a liquid dye made out of grape hyacinth into a powder?

    • @MargaretByrdColorQuest
      @MargaretByrdColorQuest  5 месяцев назад

      You can turn natural dyes into powder through a lake pigment process. I don't have a video on lake pigments on my channel, but you can find tutorials on RUclips if you search for 'lake pigment. Best of luck!

    The silk turned out lovely. Have you tried this using both oak gall tannin AND alum acetate ?

    • @MargaretByrdColorQuest
      @MargaretByrdColorQuest  5 месяцев назад

      Silk is always such an amazing fiber to work with, right? I did not try both tannin & alum on this round of experiments, but will have to add it to the list 😉 There are so many combinations and variations - it is just incredible! Have you tried it?

      @@MargaretByrdColorQuest I mainly use oak gall tannin and alum acetate on cotton.
      Silk is beautiful but expensive and other than the occasional scarf I don't really have a use for it. But I'm keen to learn as much as I can about what others are doing with any materials.

      @@lyrebird9749 The double mordant process of tannin & alum is truly one of the best binding mixtures possible. It takes time, but it is well worth it, so thank you for suggesting it here. Silk is a less economical way to print, but it is a great place to start since the results can be so vibrant and easier to achieve. Cotton will certainly teach you the importance of mordants which are the secret sauce in natural dyeing all the way around 😊
