- Plasti Dipping the hood of my 04 colorado and adding some custom striping to it.
FAQ:
Q: Do you have to pull the tape up when its wet?
A: Yes, if you wait till it is dry, you will pull the plasti dip up. - Авто/Мото
I like the idea of plasti dip for stripes rather than entire car. Gonna do this instead of decals
LOOKS AWESOME! I really like the nice little pin stripe you added to the edge. It really adds some dimension to the hood stripe.
Damn that looks good! I remember watching this video right after you put it up, and had no idea what plasti dip was, now i use it all the time.
The 2 thin stripes were a nice touch. Well done.
nice design on the stripes, beautiful truck before and after
Wow, that looks seriously awesome
Colorado is an already nice looking truck. You made me it look more man good job
Finally someone put some style into a plasti dip job. It looks great!
Thank you
wow.. for plasti dip.. that looks amazing!!
Looks professional, well done sir...
If you were to wait for it to cure, when you pull up the masking tape the plasti-dip comes with it from my experience. He was correct in pulling up the tape prior to it completely curing.
damn that actually looks pretty sick. and thats a very nice tuck.
Great job, man - looks killer!
Great looking job, man.
THUMBS UP !!!
thanks. I laid down a few coats to make grandsport stripes and the edges lifted when I peeled the tape. tried again 1 thick fat coat and it looks perfect. i was worried about it drying evenly but this stuff is really forgiving to screwups.
just make sure your coat is pretty much evenly wet to get it smooth, and yes if taping off make sure its good and thick
That came out dope!
changed my mind that looks nice ,,,, sweet good work
I have an auto machine shop, and I can honestly say this is one of the few applications for plasti-dip where it makes sense and looks pretty good. Painting this in our shop would require so much prep and if any mistake is made it looks like turd. I also liked the factory stripe style, nothing too outlandish and the colors worked well. Stay gold.
Thank you *****
Awesome paint job!
That's a great tape job you did BTW. Looks great!
I am so going to use this! That is awesome! Good job!
maan, one of the nicest Colorado's iv seen! if u ever plan on going big do the truck visa versa all flat black with the red stripes and red pin striping! would look sick! nice truck man
You did a great job with the plasti dip
that turned out awesome!
Turned out great man! I just ordered my first ever PlastiDip can and gonna do some practice on my old hood!
beautiful job, awesome truck
Very cool! Love it
Wow, very good job. Looks great. I love how you have the pinstripes. love it.
Looks pretty good!
Very informative and detailed video, thank you. Your truck looks great btw.
dude, thats amazing pin stripping
Nice work. Thanks for sharing
Oh okay thanks gotta have one of those ....also ur hood looks very very nice with the plasti dip stripes.......
Man, I love thqt beat, if the video didnt have it I might have clicked to a video, but I wanted to keep listening to it and see the final result...
I can tell you care about your truck, keep up the good work. And nice job on your hood
good job man. i like your work.
It's held up really good so far except for 1 little nick from a rock, otherwise its been sitting in my garage, and it is still on the truck. I did the rear tail panel of my mom's mustang around the same time and it sits outside at her place all the time and no issues so far.
Looks great bro! Pretty sweet
I used the regular nozzle that comes on the can and a spray can trigger I picked up from Lowes.
It really depends on your application, if you are doing a whole panel or wheel, then you can do the wait till its dry before doing another coat, but if you are doing striping then you must put down a heavy wet coat, or at least always keep the edge where you taped off wet. Otherwise, you run the risk of pulling the plasti dip up when its dried over your tape. For a roof, I'd say 4 coats, also remember the thicker it is the easier it is to pull off later.
Not sure but I've had it on for 3 months and it still looks good.
Very nice detail..and sweet truck
And nice job by the way! I like the outside accent line you did. Looks great!
@Andrew Thomas It stays on fine but just and FYI, when you wash it just let it air dry because if you use a rag or anything else ithe fibers can get stuck on it and will have it looking like a lint brush!
Nice job on the tape looks clean
Thank you.
Nice work! I learned that you have to get that tape off QUICK if you don't want jagged edges.
That turned out pretty fucking awesome looking.
nice. thinking to do my silverado single cab ruff just like this plasti dip thanks and nice job
Holy shit that looks good!
Looks slick.
As long as the edge is always wet when you pull the tape your fine, if you let it dry and then spray more, you'll still tear it up due to the previous coat drying over top of the tape. Best thing when taping off like I did is to use a real heavy coat, the plasti dip is very forgiving, or just making your you keep the edge wet enough to pull the tape up
looks great.. nice job
This is nice to hear, Tel-Aviv is definitely one of the best tourist cities in the world.
We are located in Tel-Aviv, near the "David Intercontinental" hotel and the "Carmel" market which you must have visited on your way to or from the beach.
If you'll come again you are most welcome for a visit.
looks sick!
man thats really cool good job
Nice job now I want to try this Thanks Fonzi
Well when I started off I was finishing off another can and then started a new can. Honestly for the area I did depending on how thick you want it I say 1 can would be enough. If you want to do a whole hood or roof then at least 2 cans.
Generally you want to start with several light coats and then build up to thicker coats. However if you are doing a project where you are taping off lines in the plasti or need a sharp edge on the plasti dip, you will need to lay down heavy coats. and you can't let the plasti dip dry. If you let the plasti dry wth your tape still on, it will pull the plasti dip up with the tape.
VERY nice job!
looks great, fairly smooth for a matte finish, its not smooth glossy paint
That looks professionally done. Good job, man. I haven't seen a bad review yet on Plasti-Dip. Most likely because it dries well and is removable.
That is fucking amazing. Good job man, got alot of inspiration from this for my bike
Been looking. This is one of the better results
Thank you
Sick as hell man.
It's very forgiving and self leveling
Sick man! Great job
awesome vid ! and i like that little black trim line you left ! quick question, where can i get that vinyl tape and exacto knife ?
its the 3.5 they had from 04-06. Its a Goodmark 2inch cowl hood. Many places carry it.
Great job!
that looks awesome man. one thing that held me back though. hows the dip hold up during a good car washing? i know it stays hard on my rims but theres a ton more crevices to give it good grab you know? just curious. looks freakken sweet!
Cool....this looks to be better than sticking vinyl stripping on there. Might do this to my Camaro.
That looks great for something that cost like 7 bucks and you can take off, and redo in a different style anytime you want.
Very nice, I am doing the center part of the hood on my GTO right now. I've now done it twice and cannot get that smooth finish like you. When I do the sides of the hood where I pull the tape (building up in 1 thick coat to peel tape away to get clean line) it's way smoother than the damn rest of the hood. Im almost thinking that the entire hood should just be layed in 1 thick coat? Or what do you suggest? I've used the cans and the actual gun. Doing the whole car white next week. Thx.
thanks for posting this video, it helps me with what im currently trying to do with my car.....
that looks sick
I did light coats for the wheels, you can't really do light coats and let it sit when taping off certain areas. If you let it dry and then peel the tape it will pull the plasti dip up.
Look amazing bro!
that looks fucking sick dude i love that truck
that exacto near the fantastic red paint made me shudder. nice looking ride and very clean
Nice work! Quick question - how quickly were you doing successive coats? Less than 8 minutes between? I understand when doing stripe areas all the coats must go down while wet without dry time...and then pull tape up while wet...considering doing a 3-5" wide stripe front to rear on my car...and I guess I'd need to spray continuously then pull tape up immediately after 4-5th coat? With minimal to no time between coats? Thanks!
love how many times you went back and forth checking from side to side. nothing wrong with being meticulous when it comes to your ride. I see too many ppl just spraying this shit everywhere.lol. in moderation and a little planning this can REALLY look great. Case-in-point...your hood. Good job
i didnt see any dry time between coats...was done a little differently than on the 'dipyourcar' site..but yours turned out pretty good...and the pin striping was a really nice touch.
Seems really great to experiment with and Im looking to do my roof with black. Just curious if between coats it needs to dry and how many coats would take to look right on such a large surface.
nice work, cant wait to try this myself!
Finally I get to c how is done... Not I got a good idea on how to do ma hood, thanks bro.
Badass job.
How does it look up close? I'm thinking of doing a racing stripe on my car. does it have any odd texture or does it dry smooth like paint? If it looks good unless you are REALLY close to it...that would work too.
(nice work)
awesome grill...good lookin truck
Looks awesome haha.
Thanks! hopefully i can get it on good like you did.
thanks! hopefully i can put it on as good as you.
Laid out nice, Sweet job man.
Cool, thinking about doing my whole hood on my focus ST.
looks nice man
good work my dude and very helpful on it!
Good work. How did you get the pin stripe to be even all.the way around
The knife you can get anywhere that has hobbist supplies or modeling supplies. The tape I got at O'Reillys Auto Parts, but auto zone and advance or any body shop supply shop should carry it, just make sure its thin line vinyl tape.
Thats sick!
whats the brand of that mask tape seems flexible ,great job on hood
what was the last thing you sprayed on before you started, just quick detailer? also, cant tell because the vid is sped up, did you put one thick fat coat on, or were there breaks in between, doesn't look like you ever let it start to dry.
1. I recommend applying a light first coat almost a dusting all over the item you are plasti dipping. Use the directions on the can aswell and i would recommend 4 coats maybe 5 coats depending on how even it looks after you apply the 4th.
2. When taping off areas that will be affected and sprayed by the plasti dip you should peel the tape off the areas after you are finished spraying the item so the plasti dip does not settle and harden into its rubber resein.
