    Hi Tony, we visited the Alhambra in Granada earlier this month (September 2024). We booked our tickets months in advance. We decided to book two different days, so that we would not have to see all three areas on the same day, and in case it was raining or one of us did not feel well. We did not want to go all the way to Granada and not have a great time at the Alhambra. Our reservation for the Nazrid palaces was for 9am on one day, and for 10am on the second day. There were fewer people at 9am, making for better photographs and no crowding. There were more people, and more tour groups, two days later at 10am. Therefore, my suggestion is to go as early as you can (the first time is 8:30am). Also, it is cooler in the morning. It is easy to get up the hill to the Alhambra on city bus number 30 or 32.
    Also, we have been to the Prado Museum in Madrid twice this year, in May and September. Both times, we bought tickets and entered at 2pm, when everyone else was leaving for lunch. The line to get tickets was under 5 minutes long. If you go to the Prado at the peak time of 11am, you will face many tourists and tour groups.
    Tony, thanks for all of your great videos.

      Great to hear you dedicated proper time to an outstanding place. We would never recommend anyone entering the Palacios Nazaríes first thing in the morning for two reasons: light is not the best and it's the part of the complex that should be visited last, as it is the most extraordinary. If you go in winter you might not want "cooler in the morning". (usually freezing). But your case, with repeat visits, was different. And yes, entering first thing you benefit from the fact that few tourists have entered the complex at that time of the day. Museo del Prado is a true lottery. All the very best to you!

    If I lived in Madrid, or was visitng more than once a year, then I would purchase an annual National Museum pass. If you plan to visit the Prado museum only a few times within a year then it's definately worth it as it covers many other museums too. But there are also several tourist museum passes for Madrid that work just as well. In some major cities in Europe an annual pass to a major museum can cost less than just two visits. The big advantage of an annual pass is that you can visit multiple times for short periods which help for some of these huge museums. It pays to do a bit of homework before travelling.

      There are many good passes worth the investment even if you don't live in Madrid. We have a whole video dedicated to them here ruclips.net/video/oeb4MfDRy4U/видео.html

      It's a whole new game right now. A few days ago we tried to visit five our favorite bars in San Sebastián. Couldn't enter any of them due to the long queues. This idea that tourism can grow indefinitely is having an impact on the quality of the experience.

    Another reason to Always buy tickets in advance is that you’re are guaranteed an audio guide. Audio guides are limited so Audio guides are reserved for advance ticket holders.
    We bought tickets at the door for Museo Del Prado but all the audio. guides were gone. 😮

    Hi Tony, thank you for your amazing and super helpful videos! My family and I will be visiting Zaragoza later this month. I followed your link to buy tickets for the Aljaferia but I can't figure out what the different kind of tickets are. For example, my family and I do not speak Spanish -- would we click the "Book Now" button under "Guided Tour Tour Operators/Official Guides/Unofficial Guides"? At the top of the page it says that "Ticket reservations will be made exclusively for guided tours and educational centers with and without a guided tour." Does this mean we have to be part of a guided tour in order to see the Aljaferia? If so, is there a tour available in English? Thank you so much for all your helpful videos and tips!

      Hi, if you are not a travel agent or a tour guide, you shouldn't select the option you mentioned. Go for the standard ticket. There are guided tours in Spanish, or you can tour the palace on your own. All the best.

    Although and understandably so, tourists contribute a high percentage of the total income for Spain, I find it a pity that local and native people to those areas will never be able to visit these beautiful historical buildings and places. Hopefully they do have some sort of way to have locals enter these sites without having to book months in advance or standing in long ques?
    Thanks for an eye opening video.

    • @m.sz.6170
      @m.sz.6170 3 месяца назад

      In most cases one would be able to buy tickets for next day. Of course in high season and for places like Alhambra or Sagrada Familia you have to book weeks in advance. But months in advance is a strech, places like Prado Museum don't even sell tickets several months in advance (2 months max), Alcázar and Cathedral in Seville don't have on sale tickets for November yet. Buying in advance is important in high season, for high demand places, to be 100% sure you can visit those places, to not stand in queues, when you are on a tight schedule or even to pay less (online tickets are sometimes cheaper). Not sure why you think locals won't be able to visit those places, some of those places offer free entry for locals or on holidays or after certain hour + when you are local you can visit any day of the year, it doesn't have to be during high season when booking in advance is advised.

      Hi Jacques, to be honest, the negative impact of tourism in the life of locals is felt in many aspects of daily life, but tourist attractions aren't usually an issue. You will meet many locals that have never been to some of the most important monuments of their cities, it just happens. When you leave in a city, there is no urgency to visit certain places.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, you're right! We would like to stress that right now, for the most important Spanish cities, it's high season during many months of the year. So better be safe.
