      Lightning's dream sequence in the first Cars movie had aliens that resembled the Tripods from _War of the Worlds,_ which invaded the city with one of the poor cars got incinerated into ashes. That's until Lightning in his Dinocco form shot the missiles towards said aliens to save the day. (Choopo mentioned that Finn McMissile is a cyborg spy who equipped weapons and gadgets inside his body, but doesn't realized that Dinocco Lightning also had a weapon coming out of his body, so this implied that he's a cyborg too.)

    5:30 About Celine: one thing I don't see enough people talk about is that she has a steering wheel, while other cars don't seem to have that. The only reason she would have that is if people used to exist in this world and drove her. She is probably one of the earliest "sentient" cars that existed. At first the eyes were put in the place of the headlights because people still needed to see. Once the cars became fully autonomous and sentient, the eyes were put where the front window usually is.

    Is it possible that the world of Cars is actually just our world but from the POV of our cars? Imagine a Herbie-like scenario, where every car is sentient like Herbie, and in their view, it’s just them driving themselves around and doing things as cars, but in reality there are people doing all the driving and all the people things, etc, we just don’t see them, because we’re seeing the Car POV?

    • @tiggerforhim
      @tiggerforhim 2 месяца назад +14

      This is probably the best explanation for this I've ever seen. The cars always think of the things they do through the lens of 'I am the one actually on the road,' so they often forget about their human drivers. The whole series could very well be this colored perception of the cars looking back at all of the events and drama that happened to their human drivers, with themselves in the human's place. That could be the thing that solves all of the inconsistencies in the series, that the cars are putting themselves in the place of their drivers in flashbacks/memories!

      It's because in others movie, the universe is somewhat coherent. Like it's just another universe but with different laws of physics. For exemple the Monster Inc lore is its own universe and everything make sense according to the laws the movies sets themselves. It's just another universe in which the physics are in a way that makes interdimensional travel possible through doors and that human emotions can be harvested into energy. It's just different laws of physics that doenst exist in our reality. From that, you can expend on the universe by making tons of supposition of this universe history and organisations.
      The problem in the cars movie is that the universe doesn't make any sense and keeps on contradicting itself and nothing seems to be coherent. You can't expend the lore beyond the stories in the movies because there isnt any consistency keeping the lore together.

    I think the primary reason people don’t suspend their disbelief for Cars is because every other Pixar series has humans in it to some extent.
    Toy Story has humans, Bug’s Life has humans, Monsters, Inc. has humans, Finding Nemo has humans.
    Incredibles: humans
    Ratatouille: humans
    WALL-E: humans

    • @TheDr502
      @TheDr502 6 месяцев назад +20

      I agree. In fact, it's not even just that there are no humans in Cars because it could've just had anthro furry characters. Animals are products of Nature. Meanwhile, cars are consumer products. They're built by humans, for human use. Yet, the movies star cars without a human in sight. What is the use of a car when there're no humans to buy and use them? The cars themselves are proof that humans existed in this setting. There are even real-life car brands such as Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Maserati, Subaru, Honda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ferrari, Toyota, etc, so then it raises the question of what the hell happened to mankind?
      I was still able to enjoy Cars 1 despite this absurdity, but they took the anthropomorphism so far in the second movie that it destroyed the whole film. Cars 2 would've definitely been much better being a brand-new movie that starred humans.

      I'd agree with a lot of other people that it's because of Cars 2. In Cars 1, it's very easy to suspend your disbelief and just Go With It. The references to the established real life world and real life history are kept pretty general. You don't learn all that much about the wider car-world. Sure, you can ask questions about how the buildings got built or where the cars come from, but it's all secondary to the story and vibe of the movie.
      Cars 2, meanwhile, _constantly_ references _extremely_ real life concepts, history, and events. The nations of England, Italy, and Japan exist; there's a car Pope who gets driven around in a car Popemobile; the cars shoot human weapons at each other; there existence of environmentally-friendly fuel implies that there's car global warming, etc. The movie doesn't feature a plot to assassinate the vague monarch of a sort of british country, it features a plot to assassinate The Queen Of England. It's much, much harder to ignore how all the real-world stuff is supposed to fit into the car world, because it's all very specific and actually part of the plot

    As a Cars fan, Id like to answer some of these. First of all, In one of the Videogames (which aren't entirely canon) There are construction vehicles that do most of the building. Next is that the Cars can actually pick things up with their tires. Not sure how that works but I think its some spiderman type stuff where their tires just stick to the things. A final one im gonna answer is the relation between Mater and his Sister. Although they look like they have no relation, in the first cars movie we see that mater actually used to be blue like his sister, which is probably enough to relate them. I could asnwer a bunch more but im too lazy to just have those.

I think the reason that cars is the movie people are so quick to question, the movie people can’t suspend their disbelief for.. is because it’s a weak concept. Thats not me saying the movie or the idea are bad. Im saying the world itself shatters so quickly, it is physically weak all because you immediately see something that makes no sense as soon as you look at the dvd cover… and thats a car with teeth n a tongue. And thats just so uncanny it instantly makes you go “wait a minute- how does- why??” And you just cant keep the happy fiction lens on for long because its instantly a question maker…. • @pedrovallefin8406
      @pedrovallefin8406 7 месяцев назад +23

      The main reason goes hand in hand with the second point. All those other worlds funtions like our own. They have humans in it (except Bugs i think, but still seems like our world from a diferent perspective). The narrative in all this movies is to show us something we dont see in a world that could be our own. While the Cars world is completely separated from ours, no humans to be seen, yet way too similar in every other way. Thats what leaves people thinking.
      While the concepts of movies like Toy Story and Inside Out are so simple to understand that we dont even need to conciously think about it, we know implicitly that Inside Out is purely metaphoric and Toy Story quite literally works though the magic of make-believe (something canonised by the explanation of how toys come to live), the concept of Cars is so thoughtless that peope cant help but question it. If it made any sort of sense beyond its basic premise, "our world but with cars instead of people", then it wouldnt be so facinating to try and find some logic in the madness.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 7 месяцев назад +23

      When you make your characters non-human, you either have to find a way to slot them onto the real world, or create a universe for them to exist in.
      Bluey, the characters are functionally human with a coat of paint, so you can roughly assume human technology and history maps onto their world.
      Robots, non human, but exist with their own culture, aesthetic, and history, if in a narrow view because the movie isn't going to turn into an alt universe history lesson.
      Cars ... they are non-human, have no real human analogue in terms of physical capability or biology (outside of tongues?) and yet they still somehow exist in a world that looks like humans lived inside.

    9:07 I think the reason these movies get people falling down the rabbit hole is because it's very in your face with the simple stuff and the simple stuff just has more questions on top of those and so on. Cars is probably the most developed world besides toy story which also raises some of these questions, I think Toy Story for the most part gets less of this treatment because it's not nearly as in your face about it's implications until TS4.
    I've thought of most Pixar films like this, I even give my own writing that same comb, I guess I'm just that autistic. Monsters Inc largely works fine and a lot of it is squared away because it's an entirely different dimension, Monsters University starts adding questions especially when you get to deleted scenes that do try to answer some questions, however most MI/MU questions are from just logistical headaches like how it's a concern that they'll alert the parents if a child cries but a child screaming from utter terror doesn't have that same problem (this from the scene where they're booted from the scare program). WALL-E's biggest world building issues relate to the nature of sustainability of life on earth and how the Axiom still has resources if it just dumps all it's trash out the airlock. The Incredibles has a couple leaks but is largely air tight world building wise until the second movies with questionable political logistics. Bugs Life isn't very in your face about it's odd world building implications until you think about how they've started building things like cities and harvesting machines at the end especially when they're widely produced. Inside out... my best solution to emotions that feel other emotions' emotions is that they share aspects of each other, they're all a part of the same mind, and the movie's corner cutting is where most of the problems come from because Riley is the only one who's emotions are all unique, everyone else, their emotions bare a strong resemblance to their... uh... people? the individuals whom they... pilot?

    9:12 if you pause at the right time choopo disappears and reappears, implying that he may have, in that singular frame, travelled through the multiverse to fact-check his script, which has SERIOUS lore implications.

    This makes me wish the upcoming Cars 4 film makes the world building in it at least a spec of sense or else there's no good purpose for making another movie

      I hope cars 4 is just a 10½ hour long explaination of the entire series up to that point
      With nothing but answers.

      Watch ANY documentary or commentary from Pixar staff about Cars, and you will understand hat it’s all in good fun, that it’s meant to be a fun cartoon. They always have a lot of fun making them.
