    Great work! I've always grown plants since I was young. Recently I've been scrounging around for material as I'm building a new permaculture garden & today I rediscovered an old woodchip pile at the local park. Amazing amount of healthy mushrooms growing in it! Dug up as much as I could fit in my bins. I know my raised beds will be full of mycelium & mycorrhizal fungi to give everything a boost of energy to make my plants thrive in the supercharged soil! Happy days! The simple things in life 👌

    Its awesome to see a bigger grower using buckets exclusively, I am inspired! I have been messing around growing with filter patch bags. Ive done some lions mane, grey oysters, pink oysters, and chestnuts. Ive hated that the bags are single use. I will be trying buckets soon. This is so cool!

      Buckets use more plastic waste than the bags, believe it or not. If you calculate how many PP bags you would need to use to amount to the same amount of plastic as the bucket, a near zero chance the bucket will last long enough to be a less consumptive use of plastic.

    • @pbars09
      @pbars09 Год назад

      @@wearywillie3675 the buckets are already waste, they're not produced for this. You'll notice they all say Feta on them. These buckets are plastic waste from the restaurant industry being repurposed

      PP is very limited in its recycling capacity, especially if bags are fitted with a filter patch. HDPE buckets last for many years and can be readily recycled

      Why not try smaller buckets?
      I can't lift much in the way of weight due to an old back injury and inflammatory syndrome affecting most of my joints and - okay, I definitely do not have a mushroom farm or even a home growing concern on the same level as this lady - but I grow my own mushrooms in smallish plastic bags with a view of replacing them with lidded tubs 'much' smaller than those shown.
      Lift only what is comfortable for you, not what is comfortable for someone else or what you see recommended on other channels. It's perfectly possible for mushrooms to scale down as much as yourself.
      Only yesterday, I picked a nice bunch of wild (Porcelain Fungus) mushrooms off a tiny scrap of a branch laying on the ground. They really don't need those great big buckets to thrive well.

    the holes you pierced/drilled is very small. you will lose a lot of weight on the yield since you are restricting its stem size to minimal and you are cultivating a highly explosive oyster variety. i recommend the holes be 1 to 1 1/2inch. thank me later.

    It's a nice technique, but you can't track contamination. Because you cannot see inside the buckets and this is a big problem in case of possible contamination.

      I've seen oyster mushrooms grown on straw that was soaked in lime water of ph 12.5. This seems like an economical way to do it vs autoclaving that much. One video had people stuffing ground up straw into onion bags and dumping them in a huge bucket of water mixed with lime. I haven't seen any other ways yet.

    Question why are they harvesting them when they are so young! those mushrooms could be twice the size at least before they are ready to harvest

    • @bullion87
      @bullion87 Год назад +1

      The answer maybe how long it would take for the mushroom to double the size at the time of harvest, it might take a week for her to grow her mushroom to that size but but the mushroom to grow double the size might take way longer (2 or 3 weeks, i am not an expert).

    • @NeilJ894
      @NeilJ894 Год назад +1

      I have been told the earlier you harvest the longer they will keep in the fridge, which would be important for retail purposes (and also home growing as you get a lot of mushrooms all at once). Ive noticed if I pick mine (Oyster mushroom kit) when they are small I get more flushes too, but I am no expert on the subject just my observations

    • @NotoriousHighBP

      She is one of the only people I've seen actually harvesting oysters at the right time for optimum taste. The cap should still be slightly curled under like that, she has gotten them before they go to spore. Looking at it a different way - she has actually chosen to supply a better product instead of a heavier product (which is worth mentioning when you are paid via weight).

    • @annapolissolarpunk
      @annapolissolarpunk Год назад +4

      plus spore load increases as they mature and shelf life decreases once they release them
