I’m from Cali and when you said it’s pricy but not Cali/NY expensive.. I was like “aiight so it’s mad cheap!” 😂😂😂
SAME!!
Right, from Cali too I’m like ok so it’s cheap 🤣
@@niagreer7826 well, if you working a 9 to 5 you’ll make less in the dmv
I live in NYC, if I can survive here I can survive anywhere lol.
It pricier than most of Cali outside of LA and SF
DC(DMV) has the cleanest public transportation that you will ever use. This video is spot on. The pros outway the cons. African Americans are doing really well in the DMV area. Awesome video!
Why I thought DMV was Detroit Maryland Virginia 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ I’m from the Deep South don’t judge me
@@geminitheproducer8455 😳🤯😂😂😂.
@@geminitheproducer8455 Detroit not even close bro 😂
OMG HELL YES IT IS!!!!!!
I also noticed and appreciated to see that black ppl are well established in DC. That’s how it’s supposed to be everywhere in the country. Take an example from the capitol!
I’m from Virginia Beach and have been a fan of DC my whole life. I’ve lived in the 757, The Carolinas, and Florida but there’s no place like DC. That’s like my dream city to live.
I’m about to move to the DMV area in April but I can’t decide where to live 😩. I’ll be working in D.C. I’m also from the 757! 2 up 2 down!
I’m from Northern California (Bay Area). I came to DC two years ago for a solo bday trip. I mainly stayed downtown but I LOVED it. It reminds me of the city but cleaner, quieter, and less people. Also, the museums are FREE. I was like ain’t no way. I had no problem walking around at all. The Black population out that way is just super dope🤍 Now that I’m finishing up my BS, I’m thinking of relocating to DC in about 2-3 years. I have this dream of going to Howard lol.
My gf just got into Howard Law ! Good luck Sis !! YOU GOT IT !
Not me watching this entire video not even considering moving here 😂
😂😂 maybe you should consider. I really appreciate it though.
Shall we try
Best thing about DMV its always something to do. U will never get bored. And yeah the area is pretty clean. Traffic is horrific. Alot of people that are extremely rude
Thanks for the video. Got a job in Baltimore paying 75 an hour and I start on Monday. I hope this town is All that I need…I want to find a wife in the dmv
rooting for u.
Baltimore is definitely not the DMV, but I’m rooting for you man!!
moving there within 2years hoping the same for myself
I need a husband I wished I lived in the DMV area stay blessed & congratulations
@@anoukgainey3533 Thank you Sis..Maybe you should come visit for a weekend…We can go out and paint the town red…
I have lived in the DMV area for almost 40 yrs and LOVE it. The Pros outweigh the Cons. You forgot to mention the parking issues in DC. I agree with everything you talked about in your video ✌️
I’m glad you watched and enjoyed it! I actually have a part 2 video releasing tonight at 8PM. I touched on a few things i missed here and did a different format! I hope you can catch it! It’s shorter than this one.
Oh I forgot about the procon of being able to dress for the seasons... Coming from Florida wearing coats is a whole new level for us big guys... Them layers really complement us..... Don't like the cold but love to dress for it 🤣🤣🤣
Rightttt. I had it in there! I really did but i had to cut down the time a little bit. I was at 22 minutes lol. I told myself it’s no way people are going to watch this entire video. Where can I shorten it.
@@MakingBigMoves you might be on to something there. At first I was like 17 minutes, I don't know if I'm going to watch this, but I was so intrigued that I probably would have watched all 22 minutes of it... 🤣
Thank you
I left the DMV area 2yrs ago for a change. For me I left because although all cities have pros and cons the biggest con in the area is you are your job. It’s the epitome of the rat race, every time you meet someone the “what do you do” is the second question after what’s your name. Yes it’s just a conversational starter and it’s typical in many metro cities but DMV is different because of its hub for jobs being in the nations capital. The good thing about it is the diversity is so vast you can find a neighborhood and subculture that fits you. There are a lot of cops, it’s a well protected region.
I've heard this too from friends that live in alexandria and i'm like... what if I don't have a job
I agree
Lots of Cops? What do they do? DC is hella violent. All over.
@@bee_wyd Say you are an entrepreneur sis!
“If you’re standing out then you are outstanding” 😂✨✨🙌🏾 Pure Gold right there! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
All of the cons seem good to me because nothing is worst than NY lol
Thank You for this video. Your explanation is on point and to the point. Thank You
This was super comprehensive and helpful, thanks!
😂 I can deal with the potholes, I’m from New Orleans and I currently live here (if you’ve ever been to this city before then you already know). Lol Thank you so much for this video because I may be moving to DC next year. I don’t know how I’m going to handle the winter season but I’m looking forward to getting outside of my comfort zone. This video was very helpful!
This goes to show, every bodies experience is based on lifestyle , and perspective! Thank you for the positivity and honesty ✨️
I'm going to check it out. Its definitely on my bucket list. Tfs❤️
Moving to DC this summer and came across your video. Super helpful, and you’re right - not many videos like this so thank you!!
Super help! Loved your intro.. appreciate your time putting this comprehensive pros and cons together. I have been thinking about moving to DC from NYC/ New England area. And after watching your video I have a lot more insight into what it would look like living in DC. And I have my first hike recommendation. 🙂
Ahh moving in a few weeks! Love your personality.
Honestly the delivery was good on both I been wanting to visit. I expected higher cost but was sad to know now it’s true. I come from Midwest so I like the facts of cold and hot. Great video. Ty
Gotta connect with you bro! Just moved to the dmv from austin
great video, man! you're fun to watch, I really enjoyed the bad roads section of the video! :))) cheers!
😂😂😭 I’m happy you made it that far in the video!!! Thank you a lot for the compliment to!
I think you did a great job of listing the pros and cons. I'm in the process of moving to DC and the info that you have given, makes me want to get there sooner. I love people. So, with God leading the way, I am ready. God bless 🙏
Yes, Baltimore is like that too. Very well connected
Great video!
Great info. thank you
Thanks so much, I love your enthusiasm!
You are so welcome!
I’m moving to dc next month and this video was super helpful
I'm from Maryland but you did a good job with explaining DC you was right on the money man a lot of places in Northern Virginia
This is spot on! I appreciate this a lot!
Thank you and no problem at all!
Hey shall we try
I visited 2x fell in love instantly. cant wait to make my way that way!
Just came across your video. Been living in the DMV for 3 years. Love it here. Lived in Austin for 5 years. Worse 5 years of my life.
I'm going to love DC when I get there!!!!🙌🙌🙌❤️
Loved this video! You had me cracking up 🤣 laughing when you were talking about the roads!! The pros definitely out weigh the cons.
I think they do!
excellent video ! thank you so much. i plan on making my way here in 2 years
Thank you for watching! We look forward to having you!
Thank you for this! I live in NYC and we are looking to move someone diverse with exactly what you mentioned - a city feel or country depending what you want. As soon as you said it’s still nothing like Cali/NY I’m YES *inserts the making it rain emoji*. Tired of pinching our Pennie’s out here 😂
We take cute lil weekend trips on the train to NY. I love how close it is to other cities
Wow! What a great video! And your delivery is so entertaining and you kept my interest throughout. Well I'm definitely going to DC now for a few months. Being from Cali, the cost is pro for me.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you so much for the kind review! I hope you enjoy it here. I think you will.
Great video
I love the DC metro area!!! I went to college at PSU and UVA and our networks are strong in that area.
You did a great job with this video, I love the DC area. New subscriber
Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you for sharing.
Haha😂😂 this guy is so funny! Thanks for this fun and informative video of move to DC,
Glad you enjoyed it!
DC Native here. You did a fantastic job! You mentioned everything I would tell a transplant about moving to my city.
This vid is spot on. I am a native of DMV so i remember when the streets were more jacked up than they are now. Also, I rather deal with this traffic than the ATL's.
Im from Chicago and visited i fell in love
Im making the move!!! The job market in South Florida sucks for young professionals
I’m moving there next year, can’t wait!!
It’s really great. Outside of the cold weather 😂 but this year it’s colder than it was last year.
Thank you so so much for your honest reviews!! I have family in the DMV and I work in cyber sec. I’ve wanted to find a place with more diversity too. 💜
How did you get into cyber sec.
Pros outweigh the cons for sure. Moving to Silver Spring next year from Des Moines, Iowa, and I'm so excited. Thanks for the great video!
What are you looking forward to the most that you don't have in Des Moines?
Great video!! Pros definitely outweigh the cons. All the pros are what I’m looking for in my next move. Thank you for this video! And the reminder that “If you stand out, then you’re OUTSTANDING!!”
Hey.can we try
I loved this video! Just got back from a DC trip and I’m sold!
It’s a hidden gem that’s not talked about enough! Everybody wants to move to Austin, LA, New York, and Miami.
@@MakingBigMoves yes! So true!!! And it feels more mature than those other cities, if that makes sense. I loved it.
This was an intelligent and well spoken display. I been considering DC and you hit a lot of good points.
I think the cleanliness thing is big. I think that's kinda indicative of the mentality of the people. This vid make me feel like black folks out there thriving.
Hope everything going well for you bro
I plan on moving to the DMV soon from Canada, and I'm grateful for the information provided in this video.
That’s very cool! That’s a huge move! Happy i could help.
I came across your account because I wanted to move to Austin , but I didn’t realize you were going to move to my city! 😂😂
I love this area but I really need a new start 😭
😂😂😂 yeah. Honestly. This area is the most slept on in America. But i understand. You want a change a scenery. It’s not like the DMV is perfect. Every place has pros and cons for sure
after watching i see myself moving even more so than before . You pretty much sealed the deal for me 😌🔥
Ayeee. Happy to hear it!
Chile I lived out here my whole life I hate it here😂😂😂😂 the cons definitely outweigh the pros I’m trying to move out of here ASAP!!!!!
This area is excellent. I love the DMV.
I live in MoCo and go to all places in the area. I'm glad my family moved to the DMV.
i'll definitely be visiting to consider!! Im strugglingggg lol i hate the cold too. i want to wake up to palm trees. I love the black culture in the area. Also you made a good point about the distance from other cities & states! so that's good.
Hey.shall we try
I am still doing my research for cities to settle in as a base for flight attendant jobs, and D.C. is looking really good right now
3 airports within a hour drive of eachother 😎
Check out Fly with Stella’s RUclips channel. She is a flight attendant based in DC.
Thank you for mentioning how messed up the traffic flow is.I thought I was the only one who thought it was weird how their lanes and lights roundabout are made. you have to actually drive there to fully understand it 😂 he's its intimidating driving there thought I was gonna get in a accident and be at fault because the street design is confusing.
If you're standing out then you outstanding 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DMV = Destroys many vehicles 🤣🤣🤣
You cracked me up! Great video! Very informative.
hahah! I'm happy somebody caught that joke. Thank you so much for watching!
Done. I am 💯 about relocating in a few months. Beyond ready! Pros definitely outweigh the cons
Give an update if you go? I'm going for a 1st time month long visit in October. This video got me hyped 😄. I already booked my Airbnb.
Well happy travels to you.
Definitely spot on! The roads here just shock me 😩
Rightttt! I’m like wtf 😂 sometimes i think a tire gonna fall off.
@@MakingBigMoves hilarious! 😂 I’m in Alexandria too yayyy
@@kimberlybelizaire6217 Alexandria where it’s at! It’s quiet enough to relax but close and turnt enough to have fun. I like it.
@@MakingBigMoves would you recommend Arlington or alexandria for a 24 years old black male.
@@TheFitTechGuy Arlington or DC. But it really depends on what you in to. Nightlife, Arlington or DC. Peace of mind, chill, parks, nature. Alexandria
I've been scrolling through videos that seem to focus more on the negative because I don't want to be discouraged. Your video was great, and no, the cons didn't outweigh the pros. Considering leaving Denver CO after 11 years of being here. Thanks for the information!
Happy to help my friend! Thanks for watching.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons. The whole time I am listening to the cons, I was thinking.. "It's worse in NYC" so I was definitely not dissuaded.
DC has the second biggest metro system in America behind only New York
Stay in school
😂 y’all say anything. So Dc metro bigger than LA and houston?
@@keshawnmcgee1120 graduated with honors 🗣️
@@jackboy2472 Yes, underground metro train system. Not population lol
3 cons and thats ittttt. yesss i will be moving there !!!! because i live close to jackson ms and honey thats whats here. if i can do it here i can do it there!
DMV IS THE BEST AREA EVER!!!!!!!! IM MOVING YHERE THIS YEAR
My mom just retired from Bloomberg lol. It was called BNA originally but got brought out
I like this video. I'm smiling at your facial expressions, you are giving life. As a native Washingtonian I can say you are spot on with so much of what you say. The streets and the city was designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant along with Benjamin Banneker who was a surveyor. I fun fact is that Washington, DC is built over a swamp, which could be why some of our roads are so bad and bridges are shifting. My advice to anyone wanting to move to DC is come for a visit, stay at least 5 days, and check out the surrounding areas as well.
Thank you so much for the kind review. I really appreciate it.
Hey.can we try
I'm in Fairfax VA from Atlanta with my job helping out with Metro driving the buses while they fix the subway. Thinking about transferring here❤
I love the DC area but yeah, the traffic and roads are... lacking shall we say? I advise learning the public transit system and using that as much as possible. Otherwise the city is a real gem.
DC has something for everyone, unless your goal in life is to be hermit on the Arctic Circle. Hell, they probably have something in the Smithsonian for you even then.
I am happy where I live, NW Arkansas (basically its own little two county state), but I would pick the DC area over anywhere else in the US to move to if I had to leave here.
Lol I’m born and raised here and it’s nothing here if u been here ur whole life. Dc is to small
Your vedio really informive
Pro’s DEFINITELY outweigh cons. I’m due to be in the area Monday 2/6/23. You had me at No college degree. I left school and went into the job market, Insurance. So I was skeptical if I’d land a good job
I now live in this area for two years now. First, I had lived in Columbia, Maryland..but after a year, It was just too close to Baltimore for me.
So I had just moved here in Fairfax, Virginia. I love it here. So much to do, and to experience!
😅😂😂
@@redplanetphotography2567
😉
The roads were specifically designed to confuse. That's a by-product from the British - American war and Civil war. If you move to DC or PG county; expect to hear Go-Go music.
Still considering 😊
Great video!! But so much left out in the cons hahah Lived in the DMV for a few years now. Currently living in The heart of DC & is nice to see lots outsiders move to DC which this city definitely needs. But reality is.. the people here aren’t your most fun nor friendliest. No one will say hello to ya walking down the street nor in an elevator. Is very expensive, winters suck, FOOD OPTIONS ARE GREAT but everything else is blah. High rents, high paying jobs yes but it all balances out. Taxes aren’t it. If you live in Va or MD & work in DC, you get double taxed, some neighborhoods are extremely expensive.. for no reason lol Driving here sucks, winters are depressing & it can be very dangerous depending where you are as DC is very small. 2 blocks right or left from where you’re standing can be a totally different vibe lol Unless you move to Northern Virginia which seems to be the most calm, safe but very expensive as well & nothing to do unless you’re ready for a family which I’d 10/10 recommend for their amazing public school system! Prob one of the best in the country! Lots of outdoorsy stuff to do outside the city but everything is at least 1 - 2 hours away which means you need a car. DC from a professional stand point though… you’d meet some of the most educated people in the country BY FAR. most people here do very well for themselves. Diversity here is great, but if you’re not moving here with a plan or for work.. I wouldn’t. If you’re looking for more of a balance between job opportunities & your sanity .. I’d say don’t move here unless you’re chasing titles professionally which for that case MAKE THE MOVE bc the amount of connections here are endless!
There are a lot of outdoorsy things to do in the DMV. Lots of trails all over, especially Fairfax Cross County Trail, Rock Creek Park in DC. Lots of Rec Centers with activities for the whole family. Closest beach is Ocean City, about 2.5-3 hours away.
Thank you
This!!!!! I just left to head to Phoenix, AZ. Best decision ever
Sending love from Iran 🇮🇷❤️😘
Thank you!
Thank you for watching 😊
Hey Rob! Thank you for this videos! Can you share the best neighborhoods? I am looking to come out that way to visit in a couple of months. 😄
Absolutely. I actually have a video releasing soon about that! I'll share it with you once out!
I used to live in Ashburn and Tysons Corner. I am not ruling out on moving back to the area.
Yup, DCs traffic has gotten heavier and slower since 2016 because more people have moved here.
You mentioned various suburbian areas in NOVA but what about Upper Malboro, Bowie and Laurel. I know that's the MD. side but how is the entertainment life out there?
Brit here, moving to DC in July. Really helpful insights to living in the area, thanks.
It's still the best choice for me
You ain't never lied about the traffic and the roads.
luv ittttttttttt thank uuuuuuu bless xo
DC area is the best - - living is super cheap vs the income opp's. l told my kids to learn tech skills and get certs before they finish high school and then go to work 2 jobs, to pay off a bed bath suite in cash asap. We have helped them do this in under 3 years... then marry someone similar. I'm super proud of them.
November 1st 2022 my wife actually recommended that we move to DC from New York due to the fact that she wants us to get a better paycheck and affordable housing, honestly I’ve been going through RUclips channels just to get a glimpse of what to expect and definitely love your channel.
My fear is starting all over again please I do need advice from you and how easy settling down is
Don’t do it. I have been here for 6 months on contract and this has been the worse place I have ever been in my life. I’m currently staying in NW of DC and traffic is horrid. Never can find parking. People whizz by you on those dumb scooters without warning , speed cameras everywhere and speed bumps , and those guys who hand out parking tickets are ajways out. You will eventually get a ticket . People are so rude here. Just nasty. CS is absolutely terrible. Rats everywhere. This place is disgusting. Not worth it. People are racist here. Don’t be white and walking around by yourself and look up car jackings and stabbing. Extremely high violent crimes. I have two weeks left of this misery and I am never ever coming back. Not even to visit. What a shit hole DC is……. I will also mention the homeless rate is extremely high here. They approach your car at night at the traffic lights and actually knock on your windows , you get harassed at the grocery store parking lots , coffee shops.
I visited DC last week and I was absolutely impressed even on my biased Chicagoan standards. DC has to be the cleanest American city I've ever been to. The subways seemed clean and nice. The buildings and sidewalks were made with natural stones and the roads were nicely paved. Tons of construction and you could tell DC is a wealthy area. Not rich, but wealthy. It felt like Europe. It feels mature. I need to visit again to see if this was only the downtown ish vicinity or if this is a larger part of DC. As of now, I wouldn't mind moving to DC.
Dc is not all that lol I’m born and raise here. Y’all visit the tourist areas and think it’s a nice city when it’s not. Go to the southside (SE) and certain areas of Ne u gonna think u in a different world. The hood beef here is crazy and most of the hoods that’s beefing here is 5 min away walking distance or beside each other. Dc is crazy right now. Dc is to small the city size is only 62.8 square miles and already at 247 homicides smh. The carjackings and Robbery rate is high as well. This not a place to raise ur child unless u have a lot of money.
Could you do a video on Bowie, Md if you’re well familiar in the area? I plan on moving back to Maryland in 2 months; Bowie is top of my list.
I am in Bowie. Great place but if you have kids, the school system is not that great. They do have very good private schools though. Other than the schools, I like it. Close to route 50 and just a few minutes away from the city but far enough from the hustle and bustle.
@@je9833 Thank you so much for the insight. If Bowie is inside PG county as I’ve been told, then I’m not surprised hearing about the school system: I’ve heard PG county school system is subpar. How is cost of living there? The rent is high, but so is everything after Covid happened. Also, how is the safety? I know crime has no zip code, but is it a good place to raise family?
@@arield.2205 you can probably rent a good decent size home for about $1,500 to $2k a month (not including utilities). I feel safe at all times and have never experienced anything bad. Bowie Police reports car theft mostly but 9 times out of 10 is because people don’t lock their cars at night. Have lived in Bowie for about 20 years now.
Omg my aunt lived in Alexandria and I loved that place. I lived with her for a year back in 2001. I didn’t like DC because I didn’t know anybody there and the trains stop running at like twelve and two on the weekend. It does have a lot you can do though. I want to go to the African American Museum and the other monuments.
I do hate that the trains close so early. It’s pretty ridiculous but aye, a lot of stuff has been added since 2001! Come back and visit! It’s even better now.
@@MakingBigMoves I been back but just going through it to go to Virginia or Clinton Maryland. It’s a whole light rail train now that goes to Brad ave.
Can you tell us about your work at Bloomberg? How you got it what you do..
thinking of coming here with my 2 little ones. Im a Texas girl so im a little hesitant but im definitely coming to visit to see if this is a good fit. And yes sir you are definitely right cost of living is not a joke up here. Do you think places in silver spring bethseda etc are generally cheaper?
Silver spring is cheaper. Bethesda pretty high, but north bethesda and Rockville are less. You would also have a metro to take you in to Dc if you didn’t want to drive.
I’m from NYC and have been to DC a few times and everytime I go I feel this sense of home and belonging. I think it is time for me to move ….
Thank you so much for watching! I have a 3 year update video releasing soon. My perspective on a few things have shifted!
Top pros for me (lived in region > 30 years, in the city > 5 years. You get to live in history. If you keep your eyes open you can’t help but absorb it. Between the universities, DC public library system (there are something like 30 branches) the Smithsonian’s, free lectures at the embassies etc if you want to gain diversity in your own mind and thinking it’s all there. Green spaces: where else can you walk thru a National, park? Never mind all the small city green spaces. Oh and don’t forget dc city pools if you like to swim. 3 good medical schools plus the nih makes health care quality strong but, like many places, you have to work to access it sometimes.
You being here is a plus. You come across v well on this media - charming and a great city ambassador.
PS. Yeah, the traffic sucks
Great video! I’m looking into moving the DC area from Miami. Our traffic is horrendous everywhere around the city and I’m always in bumper to bumper traffic at any time of the day so this traffic con doesn’t worry me. My curiosity is if the bad traffic from DC is only during rush hours or if it’s constant and what are ways to avoid it (besides public transportation and hybrid jobs). Other cons I’ve heard about that I’m looking into how to mitigate are the income state taxes people keep mentioning. FL doesn’t have state income taxes but our sales tax is 7% so I feel like it might end up being the same in the long run? I also heard something about a car tax idk if that’s true. Last con concern of mine is snow on our cars- we heard rumors that it ruins your car. Do you have any insight on these things?
Yooo I'm thinking bout moving from Florida also. I live in Boynton Beach, what cities you looked into if you still are ?
You take mass transit as long as you have electric scooter 🛴 that is foldable You're all set. DC has a total ghetto vibe that's different than a ghetto vibe down here I felt unsafe on the Metro in DC but never down here oh that's right because we are a red state
Great info and I think the pros outweigh the cons…
pro's outweigh def - - my household thrives (doing well) on $150k avg wealth per person plus like $7k yearly per person in expenses. That allows each person to have their bed bath suite.
The numbers get better if kids share rooms. Super cheap.
Thanks very helpful.
